Wedcot's Last Festival of Fantasy Parade of 2026

 

On Friday September 25, there would be a parade at Wedcot, the "Festival of Fantasy Parade." It would be announced in the group as the last one for this year. 

 

Join us tonight as our Fantasyland friends gather one last time for 2026 to perform a festival parade! We look forward to celebrating with you!

 

 A number of floats were in the parade, rezzing near the water, slowly moving down the street, and eventually reaching the end and vanishing. Most had Disney characters on them, some were static bots, others were staff in character avatars. Some would occasionally greet people in the audience, "(name) have you ever wished upon a star?"

 

There were a number of people watching, as well as one small dragon whom occasionally flew up to get a better look and swooped by a couple floats, including one representing Malificent's dragon form in "Sleeping Beauty."

 

The last float had Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Minnie clearly enjoying the parade. 

 

While the Festival of Fantasy parades may be over for the year, there will almost certainly be other events in the meantime, especially with Halloween and Christmas coming up. And of course there are the rides and displays at the park.

Announcement: Caledon Downs Halloween

 

In the Independent State of Caledon the Duchy of Downs is decked out for Halloween again this year. Such activities include a Ghost Train Ride that takes you through a blacken portal of horror. A Ghost Hunt with linden cash prizes for the 4 leading scores of L$1500 first place, L$1000 second, L$500, and L$250 for fourth place. The hunt scoring will continue till the end of Halloween at 1am Nov 1st. 

 

The Ghost Hunt is a region wide hunt for certain ghost that appear randomly for short periods of time that you shoot with any collision (prim firing) weapon. You can use any such weapon you have. There is no sign-up needed, the person and scoring is automatically recorded and the top four scores are displayed on a post in the Goblin Cave. Details can be obtained via the display inside the Goblin Cave, entrance on west side of mountain. A Spook Shooting Gallery sits on the high ground next to the dirt strip hanger. The Jack'o Lantern search is for 10 pumpkins deposited at certain locations about the region. Each Jack'o Lantern contains a prize delivered upon touching BUT mind you only touch once or well you'll get something scary! An example of the Jack'O lantern is displayed at the information board in the Goblin Cave. The information board will deliver the hints as to where these prize givers are. There many sights to see from Witch's cottage hidden in the forest behind the train station to the ghostly Flying Dutchman in the harbor. I must warn you to be careful walking the dark spooky forest...alone, plus there will be ghost hunter blasting away!!!

You arrive at the train station where you can touch the tiny coffin between the rails to call the Ghost Train. Also note there are trains of the Caledon National Railway also using the station you may like to ride them and explore the regions of Caledon. We certainly invite you to!

Gyazo Image-Sharing Service Hacked, Over 23 Million Users Affected

 

One thing most Second Life users like to do is share images. The regular way costs 10 Lindens per picture, the fee to upload a picture. So many turn to links of images they put on places on the Internet, such as Facebook or Discord. But those who don't have the software of such places won't see them. So many of them turn to Gyazo, an image sharing platform one doesn't need the software to see the links. Over time, it's become popular, with over 23 million users. 

 

But earlier this month, they were hacked. On Wednesday September 16, Helpfeel, the company behind Gyazo, issued the following:

Gyazo, our image-sharing service, was subject to unauthorized access by a third party, resulting in the unauthorized disclosure of user information and certain metadata associated with uploaded images.

We have blocked all access routes used in the incident and have completed remediation of the vulnerability that was exploited. We continue to prioritize measures to prevent further harm while investigating the scope and impact of the incident. 

 

 They would go on to say on Friday Sept 11, "a third party exploited a vulnerability in Gyazo’s image upload server to gain unauthorized access to our systems and execute arbitrary commands." They soon sensed something was wrong, and by the next morning had blocked the hacker. But the damage was done, "We have confirmed that approximately 23.62 million records containing data related to Gyazo users were disclosed without authorization." The information included user emails, passwords, user and device IDs, and more. Thankfully "no payment information, including credit card numbers, was disclosed." 

 

The company planned to email all users whose information was compromised, "To help prevent further harm resulting from this incident, we ask all Gyazo users to change their passwords. If you use the same or a similar password for Gyazo and any other services, we ask that you also change your passwords for those services." 

 

Also, "the hackers also obtained a list identifying private images, and the company cannot rule out that some were viewed." Service was suspended to all affected accounts.

 

"We sincerely apologize to all Gyazo users and other affected parties for the significant concern and prolonged inconvenience caused by this incident."

Aether Salon's War of 1812 Discussion

 

"When was the War of 1812 fought?" That's a history joke that can get a few who take theirs seriously rolling their eyes. Another joke is that if it wasn't for the name, most Americans wouldn't know when it took place. And unfortunately, many know little about the conflict other than the date and a few key details such as the battle that inspired it's National Anthem. On Sept 20, there would be a discussion about the conflict at the Aether Salon in New Babbage, with Wildstar Beaumont as the speaker. Much of the discussion would focus on America's fleet of privateers. So how did it go?

Interview With Frets Nirvana, Musician And Veterans Advocate

 

Frets Nirvana is a name many longtime readers of the Newser will recognize.  Perhaps best known for organizing monthly benefit concerts at Veterans Isle, he's had a long career in music in both real life and Second Life. Netera Lander recently interviewed him, finding out what musicians influenced him over time, other details on him as a musician in both real life in Second Life, and particular reasons on what led him to organize the fundraisers he does for veterans.

Memorial Event For Renee Riva Ripster

 

It's come to the attention of the Newser that Renee Riva Ripster (Renee Riva) had a memorial event for her last week on Saturday September 19 at the Greased Lightning's Enchanting Ballroom. She had passed away the previous month, announced on August 20. 

 

This Saturday at 2 pm SLT we are taking time to honor and remember our amazing friend Renee Riva Ripster. For more than 21 years here in Second Life, Renee shared her presence and her essence with us. She always offered her kindness, support and friendship to everyone she met. She gave her all to her partner DJ ripster435riva, to her friends,  to Relay.

 

Rene had been the co-owner of the venue, and was a member of the Relay for Life in Second Life.  Her profile quote is "Life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it."

OKTOBERFEST RETURNS TO BAY CITY

Annual carnival and party coming to Bay City Fairgrounds 

BAY CITY, SL (22 September, 2026) -  The Bay City Alliance welcomes you to their Oktoberfest festival from the 26th of September to the 4th of October, 2026, at the Bay City Fairgrounds in North Channel ( http://slurl.com/secondlife/North%20Channel/128/128/24/ ). 

Started in Germany, Oktoberfest occurs annually from the end of September until the first Sunday in October. Heralding the harvest and all it provides, Oktoberfest features a beer festival, numerous traditional German foods, and a carnival. 

Feeling the spirit of the event, Bay City’s event will also feature a carnival and biergarten, culminating in a party in the Biergarten from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. SLT on October 4th.  Providing themed music is DJ GoSpeed of KONA Stream.

Bay City is a mainland community, developed by Linden Lab® and home to the Bay City Alliance. The Bay City Alliance was founded in 2008 to promote the Bay City regions of Second Life and provide a venue for Bay City Residents and other interested parties to socialize and network. It is now the largest group for Residents of Bay City.

Fantasy Faire-Inspired Contraption Sim

 

The Fantasy Faire is a popular yearly event in Second Life, taking place on a couple dozen sims that are around only for the few weeks it takes place. Normally when the Faire ends, that's the end of the landscapes, only able to be seen again in videos and pictures. But one of the sims from the 2025 Faire has recently returned. Galerie Gailland is back as the Contraption sim and store, and it got the attention of Faire fans happy to see it again.

Club Furbidden Closing (For Now)

 

Sad news for fans of the Furbidden Club. On Sunday September 13, it was revealed there was an announcement by owner Skitty (XxwildskittlesxX Resident), saying the club would be closing. 

 

Unfortunately due to my recent health issues and tight margins I have sadly decided to pull the plug on Furbidden for a moment to take care of my health and RL more because it is critical to my survival. I will be continuing to support our community and also helping Fluff & Stuff more. The costs of land are just too much for me at the current moment but I plan to create more fun experiences to share with you and I love and support you all so much. We have about 3 weeks left :c.

 

Talking to Skitty, she would say this isn't the end of her in Second Life, "will be okie and still gonna party and do fun things! ...  I am not done with SL just need to work with my health." She went on to say this also isn't the end of her having a place to play music, "I do plan to downsize and still do music in the same way here that I have, just without spending for a sim ... 

 

"This is still something that was going to occur but I am not really stopping what I do here and want to emphasize that, if people want to put the art I made above the community itself that's on them but we're all still here and will be in a club more than likely. If there is suddenly a demand for an entire region of all the things in one space I'll consider it. But I don't think people want that much from SL most of the time. But with my health concerns I want to address that and take a break to enjoy SL more. Get my spark back ... "

 

The description of the place is, "Furbidden is a immersive club and hangout experience for the furry and music lover community on SL!  Enjoy a magical forest environment with many activities to do as well as live mix DJs and sensual areas." The sim, which has the same name, is rated Adult. The place had a number of events every week, including DJ Tantari whom had been playing each Sunday.

Trans-Sansara Causeway Completed

 

For those who have been waiting and waiting to drive through the whole length of the Trans-Sansara Causeway, good news.  On Friday September 18, the Lindens and Moles added the last sections in the Thetis, Aptos, Tomales, and Swanton sims, finally completing the roadway going from the Luna to Mavericks. 

 

Some extra effort was done on Aptos Island. Besides the road, there was a rest stop added.  It was a large parking lot with an off ramp into the water for people to rezz boats. The place was well-detailed with the rocks and the trees. 

 

Between Tomales and Swanton, there was a metal-arch bridge.  As with the others, one could drive across it, or walk. 

 

From what I've heard, there was a small ceremony just after noon on Friday, with the gates opened and with Kit and Wendi Linden present, with some residents of Bay City.  Some would start driving right away or soon after. On Bay City Discord, Tish Coronet stated she could get from "Langdale to Truro, without racing, 35-40 minutes."

 

 

There would also be a video of the opening (by Bay City Studios). 

 

And so after about a month and a half, the Trans-Sansara Project is finished. And those with cars are free to go for a spin. But if you're a heavy lagger, be careful about going too fast when approaching a sim boundary.

 I haven't had much time to write about Second Life's notable competition, VRChat. Still, I go there once in a while. For a time, I was going about in a starter avatar. Then my friend Mattie Carlton got me this fox avatar, a small fox with a huge swishing tail. While it may not have a fedora and overcoat, it still allows me to be foxy over there as well.

Firestorm Aniversary Party, And Gifts

 

On Saturday, September 12, Team Firestorm would hold an anniversary party, it's sixteenth. Their actual anniversary of when they were founded as Team Phoenix in 2010 was on Thursday September 3. But they moved it to the weekend after Labor Day so more people could celebrate.

 

Firestorm is turning 16 this week! Our actual birthday was on September 3, but we want to celebrate BIG TIME, and we want you to join us. That is why we are moving our party to the weekend… Saturday September 12. Yes, we will have a party. And yes, there will be gifts – four really nice ones. There will also be some amazing entertainment. There is only one more thing we need – you! Please join us.

 

The fun started at 12 with the popular SL singer Maxamillion Kleene. At 1PM, singer Tally Mercury took his place. From 2 to about 3 SL time came DJ Trick. To make sure more people could enjoy the fun, the party took place at the intersection of four sims.  Beq Janus, the Project Manager since founder Jessica Lyon stepped down in January 2024, was there with the partiers. So was Pantera Północy, noted for filming Linden events such as monthly Concierge & Land User Group meet-ups. 

 

There was a lot of fun to be had, with lots of people in avatars of all kinds dancing away to the music.

 

And as always, Team Firestorm had some presents available for those attending.  One was "a bohemian inspired" bedroom set, which had a spacious bed along with a nightstand and lamp. It was described as "legacy and PBR textures applied," as well as having single and couples animations (I didn't check to see if any were clearly for behind closed doors). There was also a post with a set of birdhouses, with a weathered rustic look. 

 

There was also a a fiery pawed cougar from Wild Kajaera. It's a forever pet which needs no food but can't breed either. One can make it breedable, for a fee, but it will then need food every so often. And finally, there was the KittiCatS collectable kitty. They had another for it's third anniversary, a red one. This one was different, black with flames of a different shade of red. When it's new, you can place it on your shoulder if you know where to click.

New Last Names In Second Life

 

 Yesterday, Thursday September 17, Linden Lab announced a list of new last names residents can change their accounts to. 

 

 

Happy Autumn! Thank you to everyone who continues to submit ideas through our Last Name Suggestion Form. We always choose new last names from Resident suggestions, and today we're refreshing the available list with another batch of community-submitted favorites.

 

The new names are a variety. A few autumn inspired, others not much to do with the season: Viridian, Fierce, Danger, Otter, Meow, Peach, Lark, Autumn, Oak. Willow, Cinnamon, Charm, Sunrise, Silverwood, Briar, Butterfly.

 

It should be noted Linden Lab typically offers new last names for Halloween, which is in a few weeks. So if you're interested in picking one of these surnames, you may want to do it soon as that name may be gone for good when the spooky season arrives. 

 

As a reminder, changing one's last name has some catches, notably it's not for free but has a fee, $49,99 USD for those with a free account. Check the FAQ page (here).

It Came From Bellisseria Chat: A Home 9/11 Memorial

There's a lot going on, and just a little time at the moment to write about it. So here's the short version of a few top stories. 

 

There was an announcement this Sunday from Club Furbidden that the club would be closing. Skitty (XxwildskittlesxX Resident) stated there would be about three weeks of events left. 

 

On Saturday September 12, Team Firestorm would hold it's anniversary party, it's 16th. There were three hours of music, plus gifts people can still head over and grab.

 

For Fantasy Faire fans who would like to visit one of the sims, good news.  Contraption, the sponsor of one of the 2025 Fantasy Faire areas, has made it's own place look like the sim at the event.

Commentary: Gamer's Choice

 

Contributing writer Nydia Tungsten recently sent in an article in which she had a few choice words about some of the gaming industry's actions lately from tricking players into pre-ordering games that turn out to be different than advertised, or end up never offered, to games that are basically AI slop, to adopting a "you don't really own anything we sell you, just rent and we can cancel anytime" policy, and more. So what can gamers do about it? Nydia offers one simple answer.

Wendi Linden Speaks On The Trans-Sansara Causeway

 

There's not much new to report on the Trans-Sansara Causeway, aside that I was contacted by Wendi Linden. "I want to reach out to the appropriate Residents and Resident groups, so they have see(n) this," she told me, "I do know that the Newser has reported on this road project before in recent weeks, though, and wanted to make sure to give you a heads up that this should be complete soon." She thought it would be finished in about two weeks at most, though most likely sooner, "Some of it, particularly some of the parts we are working on offsite, should be quite a bit of fun for drivers."

 

Ultimately, the project, she stated, would go from "the Frog Road though NW Sansara to Nova Albion and Bay City."

Back at the island, not much to report other than the bulldozer moved.  But at the Whatever sims, the colorful lines have vanished. So something is going on, just away from prying eyes.

Spoonful of Sugar Fundraiser

 

The Spoonful of Sugar Festival is going on. The event is to raise money for the "Doctors Without Borders" organization. It started Saturday Sept 12 and is going on to Sunday Sept 27. 

 

Ever Courtois would say, "It deeply pleases me to say the 2026 Spoonful of Sugar Festival will mark our 12th Anniversary and put us on task to have raised over $200,000 USD for this magnificent movement."

 

There are a few things to do at the festival. One can admire the scenery. There's also shopping one can do at various stores. There are also gacha machines to try your luck at, and raffles one can get a ticket for. And there are the music and dance parties. There is at least one every day. 

 

"Doctors Without Borders is an international independent medical humanitarian organization delivering emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural and man-made disasters, and exclusion from health care in more than 70 countries. "
