Happy Equinox!
As the Winter comes to an end, Spring brings the hope of renewal and rebirth. Includes flowers blooming, and the dance of life.

Hope springs eternal in the human breast;
Man never Is, but always To be blest.
The soul, uneasy, and confin'd from home,
Rests and expatiates in a life to come.
- Alexander Pope, An Essay on Man

We are coming out of one season, into another. We humans have always found hope in things that we may not quite see - the kiss of the sun's warmth, the movement of sap in the trees, difficulties and struggles giving way to resolution and peace. Flowers break through the surface of cold ground, reminding all that better days are coming.

Since time immemorial, we have seen the cycles of life, seasons, generations, learnings, unlearnings, relearnings, new learnings. Growth and regrowth. Find this renewal of hope within yourself, let it spark new life, then let's come together to share this, to lift each other up.

Burnal Equinox will open on Friday, March 22nd, with a soft opening walk-on by the Lamplighters 5pm SLT. All are welcome to join the walk around the playa for a first look at the wonderful variety and creativity of art surrounding the effigy which is, at the moment, a glowing enigma at the center. We have some surprises for you!

We are all excited and very much looking forward to another event at Burn2. We invite you to join us in celebrating this Equinox weekend! More information can be seen on our website.

At this midpoint in the year between our big burns, lets celebrate who we are, and share peaceful practices handed down through the ages. Lets enjoy all the different interpretations of Equinox and come together to celebrate the Equinox Burn.

Daylight Davings Time Takes Effect For US And Canada (Mostly)

It's the second Sunday of March. And if you don't know, Daylight Savings Time takes effect for most of the US and Canada. That means last night at 2AM clocks went forward an hour. For most of us, that meant losing an hour of sleep or getting up an hour later. For some, it meant ending up an hour later at events.

But this wasn't the case for everyone. Arizona and some US counties, as well as parts of Canada, do not observe Daylight Savings Time. While most of Europe has it, it doesn't take effect until the last Sunday of March. For countries south of the Equator, it's the opposite. Parts of Australia and New Zeeland will be getting *off* DST in April.

But don't grumble too much. In October, Daylight Savings Time ends, so we'll get the hour of sleep back.

EOTB: Springtime Swaginator Hunt

Recently in the official blog, Linden Lab announced a couple things. One was a gift for Premium residents, a gazebo and matching table and chairs, available for pickup at various Premium gift kiosks. The other was a new gift grab, the Spring Swaginator Hunt.

Several flower-shaped kiosks have blossomed across the grid - and each kiosk holds a special surprise! Seek and find the kiosks to claim a total of five free gifts. Grab your free Swaginator HUD at Meauxle Bureaux to get started. The hunt runs all through spring, happy hunting!

To start out, head to Meauxle Bureaux (157/123/29), and click the flower. You'll then get the HUD in your inventory. Go into your inventory and find it, then click "wear" or "add"/"attatch." It should then appear in your upper left. Click it to get the location of where the first gift is. Once you get it, click the HUD again and get the next location. There are five in total.

CDS Announcement: April Showers in Alpine Meadow

April Showers - Dancing in the Rain with DJ QT!
*****************************************
Sunday April 26, Noon - 2 pm SLT
__________________________________

The Confederation of Democratic Simulators is pleased to the announce our celebration of Spring and the CDS debut of our own citizen, DJ QT!

On Sunday, April 26th 2020 the place to be is the scenic Alpine Meadow region in the Confederation of Democratic Simulators. That’s where we’ll be dancing in the spring rain and grooving to the tunes of DJ QT.

DJ QT has a broad selection and knowledge of music and she’ll be bringing us a fun mix of rockabilly, blues, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and much more! She’s a fun and engaging Emcee and it will be a treat having her entertain for CDS to help us kick off spring.

Festivities begin in Alpine Meadow at noon SL time. Just follow the umbrellas to the path that leads to the fountain - and the people dancing in the rain to the beats DJ QT will be laying down for us.

Raincoats and umbrellas are encouraged - you’re gonna need ‘em!

Alpine Meadow region, Sunday April 26th 2020 at Noon. We’re looking forward to seeing you there!

Linden Lab's Sping Egg Hunt

For those who like games, notably hunts, Linden Lab just announced "a most egg-cellent adventure." They're calling it their "Spring Egg Hunt."

Spring is in full swing, and that means the birds are singing, the bees are buzzing, and those Glytches are … well glytching!

We've scattered special eggs around various Regions throughout Second Life. Your task is to find the eggs, follow the clues inside, and if you make it to the end of the hunt, you’ll earn an exclusive prize!

This Spring hunt is only here for a week - so be sure to get hunting by April 24th, 2019 - or this prize will be lost forever.

The first clue is at Hartyshire (129/122/23), the hub location of the Glytches game. But you won't be hunting any of the little critters. Instead  you'll be looking for an egg. It isn't too hard to find, and when you do, you'll get a clue to the next location. Do not go directly there from the SURL. Instead, go to the sim via Portal Park. Once you find the egg and clue there, you can go ahead and directly teleport to the rest of the locations given to you. You should have little trouble finding the eggs, at least once everything rezzes as once the egg was among the last items to appear.

The final clue, you get not only an egg but a gift package. So what's in the package? You get a chair, a garden shed, a couple benches, and a number of smaller, decorative, items. If you're not into gardening or home decor, oh well, it was a fun little hunt.

The Egg Hunt ends on April 24, 2019.

"Spring Awakenings" at Ce Soir Arts

Gemma Cleaslate recently stopped by Ce Soir. There, she found an exhibition with a number of artists, “The spring season is our primary inspiration, but artists have been invited to explore the meaning of AWAKENINGS for themselves. What inspires, what moves the spirit? What opens the mind and broadens the horizons? What shakes one free from the doldrums that sometimes come from a long winter - or other darker time? Consider all - and express it artistically, using a range of media. Enjoy SPRING AWAKENINGS at Ce Soir Arts! “

A Look At The Chibi Noodle Dragon Avatar

If you've been seeing some small and cute Asian-style dragons going about the Grid, you're far from alone. There's a new avatar that's been all the rage in some places: the Chibi Noodle Dragon. Available in the Gacha Guild Spring in Dew Drop, this avie has proven just too irresistible to many. Bixyl Shuftan went to see what the fuss was about.

More News In Brief

There's a lot going on, but only so much time to write about it. Here's a few things that have been going on.

A Second Life fraternity, Mu Sigma Nu, has been working with an inworld sorority Zeta Nu Chi on a "Facebook Photo Drive" to raise awareness for kidney disease (their page here).

Skywind Kitsune (Gravity Wright) of United Furry Outpost showed me an inworld racing game called AGRA (Anti-Gravity Racing Association) that's been around, and updated for some years. Until the article, you can check it out at Topaz Oasis (104/218/2005).

The Gacha Guild Spring is going on. Among the items there is a small and cute feral avatar known as the Chibi Dragon Noodle which has been quite popular. Dew Drop (112/116/1738). Another recommended to me were the "Curious Critters" avatars by XuXu (Xulael Resident).

With anti-vaxxer misinformation being enough of a problem to help cause a resurgence in measles, Youtube has recently started to remove ad placements on videos that discourage people to get vaccinated or vaccinate their children, saying they fall under it's policy of not making videos with "dangerous and harmful" material monetized, or having ads placed with money going to the producer (link). One computer game, Plague Inc., is getting an anti-vaxxer scenarito thanks to an online petition (link).

Youtube has also been in the news for disabling comments on most videos that feature children due to increasing concerns about pedophiles (link).

Last month, in the video game Fortnite, a virtual DJ named :Marshmello played to a virtual audience of about ten million. While some such as Rolling Stone Magazine (link) and BBC (link) mentioned Second Life when reporting on it, some called it "the first ever live performance in a video game."

New Sansar Video by Linden Lab

(Click here if the video fails to play)

"Something is coming. Something revolutionary. But it's unlike anything the world has seen before. We call it Sansar."

This is how the new video just released by Linden Lab begins. Just under two minutes long, it gives a number of glances of Linden Lab's next-generation virtual world. Second Life users might not be too impressed with certain parts of the film, as it offers the chance for most everyone to design scenes in virtual reality, which can also be done in Second Life. Hamlet Au, felt a bit "snarky" about some things about the video, "Gross usage of Silicon Valley hyperbole, especially coming from the creators of Second Life, which is very much something like Sansar the world has already seen. In fact, I don't think the trailer shows a single thing not already evidenced in Second Life or another virtual world."

The video did show people using "The Sansar Store," and near the end a woman avatar is speaking in sync with the narrator's voice, a suggestion that one improvement of the avatars is improved speaking motion in voice.

"Welcome to Sansar: Created Reality" the video concludes. In 2015, Linden Lab had bought the rights to the createdreality.com domain, leading Inara Pey to wonder what plans the Lab had for the name. It seems that this may be the slogan for Sansar. Inara would also describe the Sansar video in detail.

Just after the video fades to black, the last word is Sansar will be in Open Beta sometime in "Spring 2017." Will we be able to see for ourselves just what this new virtual world contains by June? Time will tell.
