A Request To Extend The SLB Sim Time

Those with suggestions for Linden Lab are free to post them up on the feedback board (board for Land and Public works - here). And there are many. Among them is one submitted by Zada Bury of "Drivers of SL," titled "Enhanced Time For The SLB Event."

The SLB-event is one/the central yearly event(s) ... There are a lot other awesome events ones, too - I don't wanna "declassify" any of them, but the SLB is kinda central, include(s) a lot work from many residents, too ... and is controlled and sponsored (eg. the costs for the Sims) by (Linden Lab).

I ... try to participate in all offered activities ,,,But doing it in the 4 or 5 weeks, beside real-life, beside regular SL-activities ... while maybe having just 1-2 hours the day for SL is stressful. ... I barely made it to just take pictures the exhibitions, but not find time to get in touch with them.

Then it is ... taken down. After that, the awesome work of residents at the exhibitions is gone.

Zada suggested extending the time the exhibits are up until the next "big thing" (Halloween).

Following the Second Life Birthday, while there are smaller, less publicized events still going on around the Grid, the better known ones go quiet, at least until October approaches with Burn2, Making Strides, and of course the Halloween season. So if enacted, some residents would have more to do in the summer.

Zada's post remains open for comments, and one can post comments here below.

The SL21B is going on until later this month. And among the things are the exhibits. Some are simple, some very details. A certain fox managed to get in a little time to see a few.

Liquid Gold Dance Group Gallery And New Exhibit At Peale Museum

Gemma Cleanslate was recently at two art exhibits. One was a gallery by the Liquid Gold Dance Group and Lin Carlucci. She was at it's opening last month, and was impressed with the pictures. The other was a new exhibition "Abstracts and Artifacts" at The Peale by Lee Boot. Lee is a painter and media artist as well as an associate professor, whose more recent work is how the arts can affect young adults, and human behavior

Anita Kimono (Kayly Iali), recently interviewed Bryn. The artist discussed how she came to be an artist, her influences and inspirations, and more.

Announcement: Raglan Shire Artwalk Starts This Sunday May 16

Raglan Shire is hosting its 16th ArtWalk starting May 16, 2021. A 5-week long, multi-sim art festival, it is one of the art highlights of SL. Residents of Second Life show their artwork during this time.  Reproductions of RL original artwork (painting, drawing, art photography, printmaking, collage, and digital fine art that can be imported and put on a prim) are exhibited, along with SL artwork including virtual photography and sculpture. In past years, we have over 150 artist participants exhibiting in spaces over several sims. This year, we hope for a good turnout and have included space in Raglan Shire tree city, in Heron Shire forest, Morning Shire park and Athen Shire village. The 2D artwork will mostly be displayed along hedgerows around Raglan Shire, and sculptures in designated areas of Heron, Morning and Athen Shires.

DATES: Sun May 16 - Sun June 20, 2021

LEA Sims Go Offline

Despite efforts to save the Linden Endowment of the Arts or bring it back in another name, the LEA sims, which were due to close soon after August 31, went offline yesterday on Wednesday September 3.

Checking the LEA group, there was one last post from the Committee.

Linden Endowment for the Arts in its current form comes to an end on August 31st and the remaining sims will be taken offline by Linden Labs on September 1st.

We would like to thank all those who came to support this program and the many artists who took part in it as Artists in Residence,  Core grant holders or as collaborators with others in the many projects hosted on the LEA regions or took advantage of the Sandbox .  The creativity demonstrated by the artists of Second Life at LEA was truly extraordinary and made the program a huge success from its inception in 2011.

We hope that Linden Labs will institute a new program to support the Arts in Second Life in the near future.

Thank you everyone

The LEA Committee
PatriciaAnne Daviau, Joan Bree Balogh, Lapiscean Liberty , Jayjay Zifanwe, Corcosman Voom, TheDove Rhode

There were a number of comments in both the Second Life LEA group posts and the Facebook LEA group posts. Among them was one illustration (left) and the following comments:

"The LEA was never easy to negotiate or to manage. But maybe this is a reflection of the diverse ungovernable minds involved in this extraordinary project and the historic convergence of artists and audience from all over the Earth. Congratulations to this mind bending media (social, virtual) art movement and to the convergence of a peak artistic moment in a video game world."

Over the years, the Linden Endowment of the Arts has featured hundreds of art exhibits. Some of them the Newser has featured in it's articles. Hopefully there will be another organization that takes the place of the LEA. But such a group would have a tough act to follow.

Windlight Gallery

One place Gemma Cleanslate has gone to a number of times to look at the exhibits of artwork is the Windlight Gallery. And after exploring a number of Christmas and winter places in Second Life, she decided to check out what's been going on over there. The gallery reopened earlier this month, and has new exhibits with "something for everyone." There will also be a party to celebrate the opening next Sunday.

Announcement: This Week At The Science Circle : “Space Shuttle Launch/Re-Entry And International Space Station”

“Space Shuttle Launch/Re-Entry And International Space Station”
Saturday, December 22
7 AM SLT

Space Shuttle Launch/Re-entry and International Space Station” at International Spaceflight Museum in SL

Hajime Nishimura, Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC)

Yan Lauria, Museum director of Abyss Observatory in SL/OpenSim

Abstract:
I was working on development of Japan Experiment Module, “Kibo” (“Hope” in English) of International Space Station (ISS) Program at Japan Space Development Agency (current JAXA) 30 years ago.

When I visit International Spaceflight Museum (ISM) in SL, I found ISS at that time didn’t have “Kibo”, so I proposed to provide “Kibo” to ISM members, and made “Kibo” with help of my friend, unico Bailey and docked to the ISS in 2014.

Last year, I found my friend, pyo Igaly made a very nice Space Shuttle ride so I proposed to ISM members again. I and pyo checked final launch, re-entry and landing sequences of space shuttle, and finally pyo installed the new space shuttle ride at ISM on this summer.

Pyo also made new version of Newton cannon of Exploratorium.

I had several remote class rooms for children at RL science museum in Japan using Newton cannon, Space shuttle ride and ISS exhibits.

At first, I’ll guide you to new Newton Cannon at the sky of Abyss Observatory (Farwell). You can learn about relation between initial launching speed and the orbit of spacecraft.

Next, we’ll move to ISM, you can experience Space Shuttle launch and landing.

The atmospheric re-entry sequences of the winged space shuttle is very tricky and it has been improved much better than I was involved in the space station project.

(Launch)
(Re-entry and landing)

At the ISS exhibit, I’ll talk about design features of US-Russia complex, uniqueness of space environment and living pattern of astronauts there.

Announcement: This Week At The Science Circle : "

Saturday October 13
10 AM to 11 AM SL tim

Following the coming departure of the Exploratorium from SL (April 2019) we visit the interactive Second Life museum together.

The exhibitions are in their current state, for us as an educational institution, unusable and we would like to hear from you which of these exhibitions are worth replicating in Mesh and should be made available in our own region.

In all likelihood, the vision and years of work of Paul Doherty for the Exploratorium in a Virtual World will inspire us and enable future projects in physics, astrophysics, mathematics and technology.

Join us Saturday at 10 AM PDT, discover and experiment with the many exhibitions, photograph or write down your favourites and talk to us about new ideas!

Scenes From One Billion Rising

February 14 was Valentines Day in Second Life. It was also when the "One Billion Rising" event took place. Part of a global demonstration in support of women's rights across the planet, volunteers held smaller events and greeted visitors across four sims of walkways, artistic exhibitions, and a main stage where DJs performed music throughout the event.

One Billion Rising

One Billion are rising again and I am thrilled to be part of it. This is the third year that sl women and men have  joined the men and women around the globe who rise to “Bring in the New Revolutionary World of Equality, Dignity and Freedom for all Women and Girls.”

The Second Life support event will take place on February 14 , Saturday , Valentines Day in SL. Attend the event! Show your personal support for all women and girls  across the globe who are suffering indignity. There will be continuous dancing beginning at 12AM on the 14th so you can fit a visit into your time schedule. Artists will have places to visit around the massive stages. The first year a wonderful machinima was created. Take a look at it.  It still gives me chills when I see it . I took part in the filming of several scenes.
