RFL Team Sunbeamer Meeting

On Sunday, March, 24 at Noon SL time, members of the Relay for Life's Sunbeamer team held a meeting inworld. The meeting, headed by team captain Rita Mariner, was about reminding people of upcoming events, notably the annual Air Show, on Saturday May the 4rth (which got a couple 'May the Fourth be with you' jokes), and other events such as participating in the Relaystock and the Ren-Faire. We also talked about other possibilities for events.

The "Sunnies" have one weekly event, the Moon Dance, every Thursday at 6 SL time. Head to Sunweaver Space at  (108/113/50) and look for the Moon Cannon.

Burn2 Is Coming

Today, Gemma Cleanslate reports on the upcoming Burn2. The largest annual art and music festival in Second Life, Burn2 is the virtual version of the Burning Man Festival that takes place in late summer in Black Rock Nevada. The volunteers are getting ready, and smaller events are being planned. And unlike the real one this year, you won't have to worry about being stuck in the mud.

RFL Team Sunbeamer Meeting

On Sunday July 30, the Relay for Life's Team Sunbeamers had its post-season meeting. They talked some about what went right, which led to the team having it's most successful year ever in terms of fundraising, it reaching Ruby level. But there were also some ideas for what to do next year.

The team's off-season donation jar set out at Club Cutlass has been  collecting some Lindens. Team Captain Rita Mariner announced it had collected enough so far to put the team at Silver rank next year (provided what it takes to reach it doesn't change).

Go Sunbeamers! Go Relay!

RFL Team Sunbeamers Planning For The Season

On Sunday January 31, the Relay for Life's Team Sunbeamers had their pre-season meeting in Sunweaver Bay to discuss strategy, led by team captain Rita Mariner. With "A Cure For A Happy Ending" being the theme, that gave builders Shockwave Yareach and Cynthia Farshore a good idea on what to have the Relay Weekend campsite. The team has also raised plenty of money in the past few months, well into what last year was Gold Level fundraising.

There were also plans for an air show, with the date expected to be sometime in May, though with a desire to avoid either conflicting with the Fantasy Fair or Relaystock. Besides having a camp at the Relaystock, there will likely be one of the team's DJs there. And of course there are the Bid Me events and the special Relay parties at the clubs. And for a certain Sunnie, "The Platinum Avatar Challenge."

It's going to be a fun and interesting season.

A Year Gone? - Preparing For The Next SL Birthday

Can you believe it? It is time to plan for the Sl1B. Time for creators, music groups, djs.  and auditorium applications , especially volunteers to get thinking. The applications will close for all May 26 which gives us all lots of time .. but it goes fast as you know!

The event will take place June 22 through June 29 and then as last year the sims will remain open for seven more days for exploring all the marvelous exhibits. As long as I have spent in the sims in the past as a volunteer I have never seen everything that is there no matter how hard I try. Last year was a wonderful success and I know this year is going to top that.

The theme this year is “The empires of the future are the empires of the mind,” a quote from Winston Churchill. Looking at what is to come in the future will make for some fantastic builds I am sure. Here is the website which is building as we speak. Check out the video and then sign up on the application tab at the top of the page and keep an eye out as information develops! http://slcommunitycelebration.com/

Roma's New Senator

On Saturday December 7, the ROMA community initiated a new Senator. The people didn't just simply make him one, but these lovers of history and roleplay made a ceremony out of it. After which came his first meeting at the council building. But the Second Life Romans were willing to bend history a bit for a little fun, and at the end were willing to be "fools for Rome."

DrFran Babcock recently had a chance to interview one of the women behind the Second Life Tenth Birthday: KT Sysakumi. She helped with the building of the reactor stage, in addition to being one of the event's top managers. She had quite a few things to say about the event and it's planning, and how they went.

Plans for SLCC to Return Under New Name and Focus

On her Google profile, Fleep Tuque announced there were some plans in the works for a new convention for Second Life residents next year. For several years, Second Life users would meet up at the annual Second LIfe Community Convention. But this year the event was canceled, Linden Lab refusing to support it and telling the organizers they were on their own. "SLCC11 was probably the last time we'll use that name" Fleep wrote.

The plans in the works include more than Second Life, but other virtual worlds as well. Fleep wrote that "AvaCon is planning to expand the convention to include Opensim and other platforms in the coming years under a new name and we have volunteer staff positions open if you're interested, see http://www.avacon.org/ for more info."

Fleep has expressed some disappointment on the directions the Lindens have taken the Grid lately, "In the last couple years, I've begun to feel that Second Life is moving in a different direction than my own priorities and I'm spending less time and tier there than in the past." It's residents, however, are a different manner, "Despite my feelings about the direction of the platform, the awe I've always felt for the community of people who create the world never diminishes."

The Adult RolePlay 2012

For Second Life residents interested in adult-themed role-play areas and groups, it can be difficult to find just the right one. It can also be just as hard for such groups to find individuals interested in joining up with them. A member of one such group has began organizing an inworld convention for both, the "Adult RolePlay 2012."
