The Coke Bottle At Cutlass

When someone you care about passes away, what they leave behind becomes more precious. That's certainly been the case of Rita Mariner and her Sunweaver Estates, most of which have had their future up in the air since the announcement of her death. But it's not just her objects involved. There's one small object at Club Cutlass that is easily overlooked, but to those who know the owner is a reminder of a dear friend.

Here's to You, Alleara Snoodle

It was four years ago this month on December 2, 2021 in which the Newser reported on the death of Alleara Snoodle. A longtime member of the Sunweaver community, she was gifted with both brains and a good heart. She was able to build many things, including the seeming impossible. But she would also take time for many friends, including myself. So who was she? Like much about our beloved gypsy, the answer is both simple and complicated.

Yes, it's November. And yes we played this before. But nothing wrong with one more day of spooky fun.

(Click here if the video does not play)

From Nydia Tungsten on December 5, "We have lost two Angels this year, it is with heavy hearts we bid them farewell. They were loved by many and will be missed by all. Farewell Jessica and Alleara. We should not mourn their loss, but celebrate what they shared with us."

Remembering Alleara, and Jessicabelle

As word gets around about the passing of Alleara Snoodle, people have made many prayers in her behalf. in Sunweaver Eclipse, a memorial flame was set up for her. It is next to fellow Sunweaver Jessicabelle Dayafter's, who passed in late September. In front of both, people have left flowers, candles, and other items.

Alleara Snoodle Is Gone

It has been confirned by a reliable source that Alleara Snoodle has passed on. To those not familiar with her, she was a highly skilled builder and scriptor whom was with the Sunweaver and Chilbo communities. She was also part of the Relay for Life in Second Life.

Alleara. or "Allie" to her friends, was from Germany, though talking to her she told me she was born in Romania and later she and her parents would emigrate from there. She first logged on in July 2008. She soon became part of the Metanomics group, as well as becoming established in the Chilbo and Sunweaver communities. She's known for having taken part in the building of some Passionate Redhead camps, and the Chilbo community held at least one Relay fundraiser, in July 2010, that the Redheads were a part of. But she also worked behind the scenes on a number of things from clothing to avatars. She was a longtime helper of one brand named Allissandrea. More recently, a few years ago she helped get the Yinglet avatar up and ready on time for it's release event. Just how many projects she helped may never be known.

Besides her skills as a builder, Alleara was also an artist. The picture of the editor at the Newser office was done by her. She is known to have done some singing. She's also taken part in a number of Nydia Tungsten's music videos.

Sadly, Alleara was physically disabled, having suffered injuries from a fall some years before coming to Second Life. She would also end up in an automobile accident in later 2010. She would have to stop singing and drawing, and stepped down from her position in Chilbo though continued to keep in touch with the artistic community. Down but not out, she eventually went back to scripting and building in Second Life, though usually behind the scenes on the projects of others. She would find some work as a consultant to a major real-life business a few years ago. While she spent less time online, she never did stop coming to Second Life.

It should be noted Alleara and I were friends, having met around 2009, and meeting up regularly for a time. I found her to be brilliantly smart, but she also very compassionate. She had a way of sensing something was wrong with a friend, and would listen for a while as to what the problem was. She had many friends and admirers. She had several avatars, but was best known as a winged white vixen with red hair.

When we last met inworld in early June 2021, she was thinking of a couple things. Long knowing I was writing a sci-fi tale, she told me of an interesting story written by another beginning writer. She also wanted to show me the grounds of the Chilbo community, which after so many years had less territory but was still active.

A friend of Alleara's would say in her final days, she was increasingly ill. She was showing signs of Coronavirus, and planned to have herself checked at a clinic. But would pass away the night before a friend was to take her there.

Not just the Sunweavers and Chilbo, but Second Life has lost a great woman, with both brains and a good heart.

Update: Shockwave Yareach of the Sunweavers/Sunbeamer team, would have this to say:

She was my equal in building, though she had lots more time than I did early on. She was one of the first people I met inworld (Lusk if I recall.) We spent ten years trying to outbuild each other and finally just settled on mutual showmanship rather than competetion. She was horribly crippled from a car wreck, and got around the physical deformities by living in SL instead.

May God grant you ALL the answers, dear lady. Your suffering is ended at last, and your wings will free you from your prison.

Cartoon of the Day

Taken at the Sunweaver Oasis hangout at SunWaterThree. For those who don't know what a Qwhilla is, check the SLARF review. ShadowRene has an animation that allows her to sit on someone's head. Alleara thinks she just looks like a funny hat.

Relay for Life: Team Sunbeamer Meeting

On Sunday July 31st at Noon, Rita Mariner held a meeting of the Sunbeamer Team, the team of the Relay for Life representing the Sunweaver community. Held every year between the Relay Weekend and the "Relay Wrap Up," the meeting is both to congratulate one another for their successes and to swap a few ideas for the following year. Besides being happy that our campsite had gotten an award, we were still a bit fired up for having just reached Platinum level fundraising for the first time since the days of the Passionate Redheads.

Many members of the team had made contributions besides Lindens. Shockwave Yareach and Cynthia Farshore, with help, did the campsite. Becky Shamen did a number of items for the team. Alleara Snoodle, whom once did a uniform for the Redheads, had made a women's tracksuit for the team this year.

Since the theme for next year's Relay won't be revealed until the "Relay Wrap-Up," we couldn't really toss around many ideas for the camp build. One was a possible "greeter" that would say hello to everyone by name who entered the camp, but would depend on someone with Alleara's skills to make it; otherwise it would produce some lag. Cynthia Farshore had the idea of an "air race" for next year's air show. There would also be at least one "Bid Me Human" event.

It's been a great Relay season for the Sunbeamers, and we're confident on repeating it next year.

Go Relay!

Reader Submitted Pictures: WoW Selfies

"World of Warcraft," the largest of MMOs, has been continuing to do well with it's latest expansion, "Warlords of Draenor." Recently came their latest patch, 6.1, which involved a few fixes and updates, including a Garrison quest for a certain gadget, the S.E.L.F.I.E. camera (video).

The game has always found ways to sneak in elements of pop culture for chuckles and fun, though this is less subtle than most. It's also a way for some players to have a neverending source of chuckles, though others groaned that not even WoW was immune to the selfie craze.

One can take pictures next to some important folk, such as King Varian Wrynn in the picture above. Or perhaps for a Worgen, a picture under a full moon would be appropriate.

And who might this charming lady Worgen be? None other than Alleara Snoodle. A highly skilled Second Life content creator whom was once involved in the Metanomics SL TV show and the Chilbo community, she later withdrew from both due to real life events. Although not appearing as often on the Grid as she once did, she still does, in addition to other places.

Besides the SELFIE camera, there have been other hapenings in WOW, such as the sale of a special pet goat of which the money went to the Red Cross.

A Guardian for Nydia's Angels

There's been a new build in the Sunweaver Estates, the neighborhood where the Newser office makes it's home. Those dropping by Mouse Hole Manor in the past few days found something new, a huge guardian angel vixen statue just behind the main door. Alleara Snoodle made it for Nydia, whom wanted something to symbolize how her "Angels" group feel about protecting one another. Nydia created the group for both friends of hers, and Second Life residents she came across whom were in need one one.

SL Video: "Sweet Dreams of Second Life"

Another of Nydia Tungsten's videos, this one with her partner Brandi T. Streusel, Alleara Snoodle as her fellow dancers, and her friend Drac as the "dreamer," filmed at Mouse Hole Manor : "Are these girls what your sweet dreams are about? Dancers: Brandi, Alleara, Nydia. Hunky wolf on the bed is Drac (yes ladies he is unattached). Leave your opinion in the comments below."

Some Examples of Linden Labs' Ill Treatment to Those Who Do Second Life Good

Recently, a good friend of mine, Alleara Snoodle, experienced what I thought would never happen. The genius whom had been so helpful time and time again, more often than not unrecognized, was suspended by Linden Labs for the "crime" of insulting a Linden for not doing his job. But looking back, this was just the latest example of the Lab's history of turning on those whom have done Second Life good.

Reader Submitted: Avatar Artwork

A drawing of my avatar given to me by the multi-talented Alleara Snoodle. If only I could do even half this well.

I never smoked in real life or Second Life, but Alleara told me she was trying to create a "Bogart" look, the old-fashioned gumshoe reporter.

Many thanks Alleara, even if my avatar's feet are too big for most shoes. :-)
