The Flood Party, Next Year's Theme Announced

Wednesday June 11 at 4 PM was the last big event at the Relay tack, the Wrap Up party. Though it's better known as the Flood Party.

It would take place at RFL Advovacy and Awareness. The water level was raised to the point people needed floaters to keep above it.

The event started when a sim manager on a whim in 2010 flooded a sim a few days after the Relay Weekend, and people rushed over with floaters and inner tubes. It became a Relay tradition.

The Sunbeamers didn't bring a float, but a DWUK Army vehicle.

The event would be recorded (click here to view).

Besides the revelry and fun, there were also a few announcements. The most important was that the theme for next year had been decided, Wild For A Cure.

Following the event, a few would rush off to take down their campsites. But most would wait until the following day, Thursday June 12.

RFL Announcement: "Flood Party" Today, 4PM

Join us to wrap up the 2025 Relay Season on Wed, 6/11 at 4pm SLT on RFL Advocacy!

That's right - bc we didn't get a chance to spend as much time on RFL Advocacy during Relay Weekend, we decided to make up for lost time by partying hard and sinkin' it back into the ocean (where it apparently likes to spend its time anyway)!

So grab your swimming (or floating) gear and chill with your fellow Relayers, DJ Purelife, & your ACS Leadership Team as we present awards and reveal the 2026 theme!

The "Flood Party" And Track Takedown

On Wednesday June 12, the last official event at the Relay Weekend track took place. Officially, it was known as the "Wrap-Up Party." And people were gathering at RFL Research

Before long, the sim, and the adjacent one of RFL Solidarity, began to rise with water. Thankfully most were in swimming wear, and often had floaties.

Because the sims were so crowded, many who tried couldn't get in. Thankfully the event was streamed live on Youtube, and the recording made available as a video to see anytime

It was quite a bash and a great last event at the Relay track.

People had been asked to take down their camps on Thursday. But already after the party, people were already dismantling their builds before "Takedown Day" had started.

Dropping by Thursday, I saw that a number of track sims had shut down. Except for RFL Survivor, which was next to two of the three permanent American Cancer Society sims, I couldn't get to those I tried to.

And so, a great Relay Weekend has come to a close. For most teams, this means the end of fundraising. But this is not the end of the season. There is one more notable event: the Royal Ascot, and the season doesn't officially end until the end of the month. But the Relayers are not despairing. Some are looking forward to the Fandom Con next month and the Renissance Festival for Strides in fall. And of course there's the 2025 season starting in February next year.

Relay Track Flood Party Today, 4PM

Among the traditions of the Relay for Life in Second Life is the "Flood Party" that takes place every year a few days after the Relay Weekend. While it's sometimes called the wrap-up party or some other name, the old name has stuck.

Join us for the annual RFL of SL Wrap Up Party as we sink the sims! Bring your swimsuits, floaties, rafts, boats, or whatever you can hold on to because the forecast calls for rain!! Good music, awards, next year's theme reveal, and a special presentation.

Relay Track Post-Weekend, Flood Party Today, Teardown Begins Tomorow

After the Relay Weekend, while things were quieter at the track's sims, there were sill some events. On Monday June 14, the United We Stand team held an event at their camp at RFL Care to give their team a push. They'd raised most of their money outside SL, and had only gotten 5000 L in their kiosks. They  would end up raising 37,000 Linden dollars, bringing their combined total to over 126,000 and Gold rank.

Tuesday night at RFL Triumph, I saw members of the Pursuit for a Cure team having a birthday party for one of the canines near the golf course. They were dancing in a truck with one being the DJ in a small booth (no, none of the songs I heard was "Who Let The Dogs Out" or anything by Snoop Dog). At one point, a series of fireworks were being launched into the air and all around. When they first went off, they startled someone who was playing a few holes in the golf course, "Oopps, sorry, heh-heh."

There was much to explore around. I came across some detailed areas such as one inspired by the "Black Panther" movie. There was this one at RFL Awareness that offered a scavenger hunt. Another area offered rickshaws to ride on. The place across the Sunbeamer camp had the "Laff in the Dark" ride from last year's SLB by Nance Clowes. Sadly, not all builds were still around. The beach area that I mentioned on Monday was gone.

Today is the last full day you can expect to see most of the campsites intact. From 4 to 6 PM is a certain Relay tradition, the "Sink the sims wrap-up party" or "Flood party" as longtime Relayers call it. It will take place on RFL Manage and RFL Overcome.

Stay tune for more details.

RFL Season Total Passes $300K USD, Relay Sims Get Extension

Wednesday June 10 saw a certain tradition of the Relay sims following the Relay Weekend, the "Flood Party." While it was going on, there were two announcements. Shortly after 6PM SL time, it was revealed that the total amount of cash raised had passed 75 million Lindens, or $300,000 US dollars.

Just as the flood party was getting started, word was getting around about another development. While it wasn't officially announced, it appears the Lindens will let the sims stay up a little longer. Unfortunately, a few teams had already taken down their camps. So if you still want to see the sights, take care of it now.

There are still a few Relay events left. The Volunteer Banquet is at Saturday June 13 at 10 AM. And the following week is the Royal Ascot at Saturday June 20 at 1 PM. And after that, the Relay Wrap-Up.

Last Day To See The Relay Sims

There have been some years the Relay sims were up after the weekend until Friday. But sadly this year isn't the case. Today is the last day to get a chance to take a look at the various sims and team campsites, such as the Second Life Cheerleading Squad's, which had this fun playable tribute to Donkey Kong at RFL Promise (166/160/23).

But before the camps are taken down, there's a Relay tradition to take place, the Flood Party, which starts at 3PM.

The Flood The Regions & Wrap Up awards weill be held Wed. June 10 from 3 til 7 pm, on the beach @ http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/RFL%20RESEARCH/129/36/23

Join us for one last time on the Relay Regions and Track!

Wrap Up Awards will be announced During The Party
Listen Live on https://RelayRadio.t1radio.com

Bring A Floatie and Dress To Get Wet!

After the event concludes, teams are given the go-ahead to start taking down campsites.

Addition: As the Flood Party was starting, we heard from Linden Lab that the sims had a few more days. Unfortunately, some people, presumably mostly those who would be busy tomorrow, had already taken their camps down.

RFL Flood Party

At 5PM SL time, Wednesday June 12, there came a yearly tradition that began by accident in 2010, and has since become a last call for fun each year at the Relay track: the "Flood Party." While it's sometimes called other names, this year the "Sink the Sims Party," it still holds onto it's unofficial name year after year.

Once last lap, one last chance to see RFL and then we watch it sink @ The Annual SINK THE SIMS Party

Starting at 5pm All Aboard For A Cure will sink into the sea leaving us with Memories and the satisiaction of a a Job Well Done!

Join RelayRadio at RFL Research or on The Track for one last Party !

Taking place onto the bridge that separated the "Five Days of Relay" sims to it's east to other sims to the west, the water slowly crept up, and for the tinies there, it was time to get a floatie, or hold their breath.

People laughed, joked, and swam. There were also a few aquatic avatars that joined in the fun.

But it wasn't long before the water began to recede, and the Flood Party was soon over.

Although the camps didn't need to be cleaned up until the day after, some people began picking up theirs right after the party. Others left them up, giving Relay fans a chance to see one last look at them.

Today is the Takedown at the Relay track sims, and by tonight, the camps will be gone.

RFL Camp Takedown Tomorrow, Flood Party Date and Time TBA

Today, Wednesday June 12 is the last full day you'll be able to see the Relay track sims. On Thursday June 13, the Relay teams will be asked to take down the campsites. So by Friday, pretty much all that will be left will be the roads. It is advised to drop by sooner rather than later today as already, people whom presumably will be out of town tomorrow have already been cleaning up.

Sometime today or tomorrow is a Relay tradition that's become a farewell to the sims, the "Flood Party" in which one of the sims gets filled with water, and the residents gather, usually in swimsuits and inner tubes. People in the Relay for Life Volunteer group are advised to keep checking notices for the time and place.

Scenes From The "Raze The Relay" Party

"All good things must come to an end." And so after a few days so would the campsites on the track sims that the Relay Weekend took place on. But before the teardown, there would be one more party: the Flood Party. A Relay tradition in one form or another since 2010, a number of the Relayers gathered once again for a little fun in the water before, one last chance to have fun before the sad task of taking down the campsites.

Checking the Relay Track

Been doing more checking the Relay Track than writing tonight, as today is the last day most of the camps will be up. So be sure to check out these great builds, such as this tower in the Second Life Cheerleading Squad's campsite at North America Reflection. When someone clicks on it, a piece is added to it. So over time it's gotten quite tall.

This afternoon is the Flood Party, or the "Razz the Sims Party" as it's being called this time. It's from 4-7PM, though which sim it will be on has yet to be announced. Get your free inner tube in the Relay for Life Volunteer's group.

The Relay "Flood Party"

One of the traditions of the Relay for Life in Second Life following the Relay Weekend is the "Flood Party." Beginning as an impromptu event in 2010, there has been one every year just before the day the builds are scheduled to come down. On a few occasions, the "flood" was just ankle deep water. This year it was significantly deeper, enough to bring out the inner tubes and inflatables, and the water balloons.

Today Last Day Up For the Relay Sims

With the time until the Relay sims come down getting closer, many were taking some time, even if it was brief, to give then another look. I happened to catch this meetup between Trader Whiplash, Gem Sunkiller, and Aryon Dagger.

Fuzzball Ortega was also giving the track a look. As far as yours truly knows, he walked most of the way. Though word has it he was in a go-cart part of the way.

Among the people I ran into was Nancy Clowes, the head of the "Fun Rides and Amusement Parks" group. She introduced me to Pryda Parx, the producer of the Future Shock machinima series.

Valkyrie Ice found an Asian-themed build at RFL Journey. Since she couldn't take it with her, she took a number of picturesque screenshots with her in a Chinese outfit.

There were two announcements in the Relay groups today. One was the time for the "Flood Party, " which was scheduled to be between 5PM and 7PM somewhere in the Relay sims.

Location TBA on Wednesday
Join us one last time for a Farewell party to the Relay Sim.
Dance, party and share your relay memories!

Bring your inner tube to put on and wear your water proof clothes....just sayin.

The other announcement was a sadder one, that after Wednesday, the event would be coming to a close.

Sadly the Relay Sims need to be returned. Campsite clean up must be done by Thursday June 21  11pm slt. We are not responsible for any no copy items left on the sims after that time.

Please try to leave the campsites /builds up until Wednesday night or Thursday if you can, as ppl are still visiting.

For those who want to see lots of screenshots of the Relay Weekend, there is the Relay for Life in Second Life Flickr page. Among the top contributors, Wildstar Beaumont, and IshtarAngel Micheline (Ishtarkiss)

RFL Track: The Flood Party and the TearDown

Wednesday July 20 was the last day to see the builds on this year's Relay for Life Weekend track. A few builds had already been taken down by the time the day started, and by mid-afternoon many more were gone. But some were still up such as "The Forest of Life."

While many Relayers expressed sorrow, the sad feelings were eased somewhat by the expectations of the "Flood Party." Starting in 2010 as a spontaneous act of funnery after one sim manager raised the water level by ten feet, the Flood Party has become an unofficial Relay for Life tradition in SL.

Tsunami Warning Targets RFL SIMS - Flooding Expected
The impact of RFL of SL's 2016 Season has triggered a Tsunami and its focus is on RFL Activities Sim.

Unlike the first one, subsequent Flood party events have never resembled the deep end of a swimming pool. A few involved only a few inches of water. But that would not be the case this time. People gathered at the RFL Activities sim at 4:30, where Trader Whiplash was DJing some tunes, and before long, some rain started, and the water soon covered the ground.

It wasn't much longer before the water covered the walkway around the stage.

Rowena Dubrovna, who showed up in her tiny otter avatar, was soon having trouble keeping her head over the water. Someone rezzed a tiny float tube for her to stand on.

The water would eventually get knee-deep for most (or thigh deep for this 5'1" fox). While not exactly deep enough for certain felines to get their merfolk tails and "turn catfish," still deep enough for everyone to enjoy it.

But not all was cheers for the Sunbeamer team. It was time to take down the builds at the camp, and Shockwave and Cynthia had waited until almost the last minute. But there were no tears. The build had been well documented, and had a place in the team's history as the first to win an award, "End of line."

And so, the Relay track sims, once home to dozens of exhibits, were once again empty. And in a few hours, the sims would be offline and closed to the public. All except for the American Cancer Society, which remains up the whole year. The Relay Weekend had truly faded into the history books. But there's still the "Wrap-Up" party next month. And of course a whole new season next year.

Stay tuned a few more articles on the Relay Track.

Hurry Up and Explore: Relay Camps Coming Down Today

If you want a look at the Relay sims, today is your last chance to see them. Builders have been asked to pick up their exhibits by 10 PM tonight. A few whom presumably wouldn't be able to log in today have already packed up and left behind empty plots. But there's still much, to see, but not for long. As the day goes by, more will be gone.

Yours truly has spent more time exploring and less writing in order that the builds be documented in pictures. So for now you'll have to see for yourself. And there's more than just fun sites. At the Null Aries designer sim in RFL Courage, I found nine colorful geode stones and a display case.

There was much to see, both above ground and below, pristine forest and hillsides, and well done brick and marble structures. And a lot more.

The Newser will have more pictures later. For now, Wildstar Beaumont has provided a massive archive of finely detailed pictures of this years Relay Track sims. As for the traditional "flood party," word has it there will be an announcement at 4PM today SL time about the time and place.

The Relay's Flood Party

Yesterday evening, the sims of the RFL Activities sims of the Relay for Life were looking a little damp. The water level had risen a few feet, covering the walkways and ground. It was the time of the "Flood Party."

The flood party isn't an official Relay event, but started in 2010 a few days after the weekend walk when a sim manager rose the water level in his place on a whim, and people flocked over, spontaneously starting a party. Since then every year, there's been a flood party around midweek after the Relay Weekend. And this year was no exception, people gathering at a spot in the RFL Activities sims at 5PM SL time when it was announced the water level there was rising.

There were a number of team captains and other Relay personalities there, such as T1 Radio's Trader Whiplash, Debi Dastardly, and DJ Madonna.

People danced in the shin-deep water, or floated on rafts and rested on the nearby purple couch.

With a number of shark attacks making real-life news, a few got nervous when one showed up at the flood party. But he just joined in the dancing, shaking his fins.

After a few hours, the party thinned out as people went to bed, or went to explore the other sims on the track a little longer before the teardown the next day, Thursday. It was a fun flood party.
