Newser Nominated For Avi Choice Awards

Remember the Avi Choice Awards? They were held for a number of years until finally having the last one in 2016. But after a decade, they're back.

We’re so excited to announce that we’re back!  After a long break, the Avi Choice Awards are returning to Second Life.  It’s time to recognize, applaud, appreciate, embrace and celebrate our virtual community with the Avi Choice Awards again.

And among those nominated, The Newser.

Congratulations!  You have been nominated for an Avi Choice Award!  For the past couple months Second Life residents have been submitting nominations, for the Second Life Experience categories, via the Avi Choice website.  After a process of consolidation, you are a finalist and eligible to receive votes. https://avichoiceawards.com/vote-is-open/

The Newser was nominated for "Favorite Magazine, Newspaper or Periodical."

Votes for this and other categories such as Shopping Event, Club DJ, Region to Explore Through, and others, will be accepted until April 19, "Winners will be announced during the Avi Choice Awards show on Apr 25th at 1pm SLT."

Space will be limited at the awards show, so when tickets are available, they'll be sold on a first come, first sold basis.

The Avi Choice Awards are not about the determination on who is best but rather an opportunity for all of us to applaud our favorites.  It is a platform for us to show how much we appreciate you for adding to what makes our Second Lives full, beautiful and fun.  THANK YOU!

Relay Trophies

The Relay Weekend is over, and my SL family, Charlee, Winter, and I, have set up a few momentos in one corner, such as the trophies we got for our walks around the track.

Winter did at least one complete lap, and got the "Turtle" award, which is what the majority of Relayers who walk the track get. I ended up getting a "Rabbit" award for walking the track at least ten times, the first time in my years at the RFL in SL I've ever done so. And Charlee got a "RoadRunner" award for walking it twenty times, also her first one.

The Relay season itself is winding down, with only the ACTS Royal Ascot and a few other smaller events going on until the official end.  But we still have other events later this year to look forward to, such as Making Strides, the Renaissance Festival, and the Winter Expo. And next February it starts all over again with "Wild For A Cure."

Go Relay!

A month and a half ago, Avi Choice started accepting submissions for nominations for their Last Avi Choice Awards. Last night, they informed the Newser that it had been chosen as one of the nominees. The newsletter had been nominated for "Favorite Magazine, Newspaper or Periodical."

Congratulations!  You have been nominated for an Avi Choice Award!  For the past few weeks Second Life residents have been submitting nominations, for the SLife, Fashion ad Arts categories, via the Avi Choice website.  After a process of consolidation, you are a finalist and eligible for voting.  http://avichoiceawards.com

There are many other selections to vote for such as favorite radio station, favorite DJ, favorite store, favorite annual event, etc. So you may want to browse through the whole list, as well as "Fashion" and "SLife."  Voting ends on Nov. 28th at 5PM SL time. Nominations Sought For Last Avi Choice Awards

The Avi Choice Awards, who brand themselves as "the premier annual awards presentation recognizing the people and talent of SL’s™ amazing creations, chosen and voted on by SL™ residents," are once again accepting submissions. However, this will be the final time the awards will be done, at least in their current form.

As announced during last year’s Avi Choice Fashion Awards, we are retiring the Awards, as we know them.  We are talking about continuing our mission forward in some way ...  But for now.. we have an announcement to make! On December 4th, 2016 we will host one more Avi Choice Awards!  The GRAND FINALE!  This one will take us back to the early days of our Awards when we had one program a year celebrating as many recipients in all three genre’s as we could.

There will be some special mentions and moments as we all say our goodbyes to what has become an amazing part of Second Life history.  This program will be the conclusion of the Avi Choice Awards, as we know them.  It’s been a good run and we could not have done it without support and cooperation and input from the amazing virtual community known as Second Life.  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

The Awards are in three categories: Fashion, The Arts, and SLife.

Among the categories for Fashion are clothing, avatar, avatar accessories, and jewelry stores and makers.

The categories of The Arts include "Favorite Magazine, Newspaper, or Periodical," Favorite Radio Station, Favorite Male DJ, Favorite Female DJ, Favorite Streamed Music Club, Favorite Machinima Artist, and more.

For SLife, which has the most selections, categorizes include Favorite Furniture Maker, Favorite Sim to Explore, Favorite Place to Take a Date, Favorite Shopping Region, Favorite Roleplay Sim, Favorite Second Life Blog or Website, and Favorite Second Life Blogger.

Residents have until Wednesday October 12 to cast their votes. Going through the guidelines, there doesn't seem to be any rules against voting for someone or something in multiple categories.

The Second Life Newser fits the "Favorite Magazine, Newspaper, or Periodical" in "The Arts."  But the several sections qualify for "Favorite Second Life Blog or Website" in "SL Life." Bixyl Shuftan and Becly "Sha" Shamen qualify for votes in "Favorite Second Life Blogger," also in SL Life. The Newser has been nominated twice in the Avi Choice Awards, but has yet to win first place in getting an award.

So the Second Life Newser asks you the readers for your support for the Awards.

Now it was time to bring the season to an official close with awarding some individuals and teams for their efforts, announcing the theme for next season, and give overall congratulations for a job well done. For one certain reporter, there was a surprise at this year's Wrap-Up.

Triumph: Relay Weekend Concludes

Yesterday marked the second half of the Relay Weekend, also known as the Relay Walk, marked by 24 hours of walking across a track across almost 40 sims. In the pre-dawn and early morning, the Relayers continued to walk the track. Some had taken breaks to sleep, but a hardy few continued on without so much as a nap.

At 10AM were the official closing ceremonies.  Committee members thanked the hundreds whom had taken part, large and small, as well as recognizing certain individuals whom had made special efforts. There were also some team awards given out. There were also reminders of why the struggle continues, stories of people who had survived their battle with cancer, and of people who had not.

Among the teams getting awards was Team Sunbeamers. They had received the Cancer Education Awareness Award: 1st place. Since it's creation, the team had earned awards for fundraising, but not for it's campsite. This time it had. So when it walked the Victory Lap following the closing ceremonies, marked with fireworks at certain locations on the track, it did so with Cynthia Farshore, one of the builders of it's award-winning camp, it's flag flying high.

After the victory lap was an impromptu event at the T-1 Radio location. And a number of people whooped it up. While there might not have been a "skunknado," at one point a thirty foot woman showed up.

Members of team Sunbeamers would later get copies of their award. Also given out were teamwork awards, and awards for completing at least one lap of the Relay Track. Cynthia Farshore would get the "Rabbit Award" for making more than ten laps.

The SL Newser will display more pictures of the track later. For those who can't wait, IshtarAngel Micheline has a few up on her Flickr, of both the ceremonies, and of the track.

*Addition*  - the sims will remain up until at least late Wednesday night. While no date for the "flood party," a recent tradition for the Relayers, has been given yet, it's often on the Wednesday afternoon following the Relay Weekend.

Sunnny Awards Night at Cutlass

Last Friday, it was a night for the Sunweavers to honor five individuals whom had helped out the community. The reason for the event was one individual whom had recently stepped up several times to help out certain individuals, in addition to helping Rita Mariner and Nydia Tungsten with paying the fees to Linden Lab to get tier reduced, and therefore lowering the rent for everyone. But as the person was starting to feel a little embarrassed for feeling singled out, instead of just honoring him only, four others were also named to share the stage with him in an award ceremony.
