Rita Mariner Back Online

 

For about three weeks, the Sunweaver community has had it's leader, Rita Mariner, in the hospital. Finally yesterday, Wednesday April 20, she came back online. At Club Cutlass that night, there was a banner welcoming her return.

As luck would have it, Rita would have to leave toe party a bit early, so I wasn't able to take a picture of her as a "roller derby rabbit." She still has some healing to do. But in the meantime the party, "Best in Q and R," went on, a little happier now that the bunny chieftess was back.

Update on Rita Mariner

 

Since we last wrote on Rita Mariner, the leader of the Sunweaver community and captain of the Relay for Life's Sunbeamer team, more information has come in. I managed to get in touch with her at the hospital. She told me the problem came about when at home, she had fallen and was unable to get up "due to muscle weakness and extreme pain," so she was stuck for five hours before help arrived. While she had her cell phone, it wouldn't connect with her wi-fi. So she ended up in the hospita. Her complaint: while the food was good, it wasn't enough, her describing it as more fitting for someone about 90 lbs. Someone had sent her flowers on behalf of the Sunweavers, which she was grateful for. Coming down with an infection, she spent about a couple weeks in intensive care before being moved to rehab.

Rita's laptop had been sent out to repairs, and is expected to have them finished soon and the machine returned to her, after which she should be able to resume getting online, and in Second Life. In the meantime, the activities of the Sunweavers, and the Relay Sunbeamer team, continue. Among the later, the four "Bid Me" events going on at Cutlass, the first three being joined by Valkrie Ice's "Bid Me Jackalgirl," which end tonight. Today I'm deviating from my usual writing about something in Second Life, although it is about something that will affect my time here in the virtual world. Lately my real life has gotten less predictable as someone in real life close to me is now in need of help, and it's up to me to do so.

Reader Submitted: My Cancer Journey ( Still Outgoing )

 

Recently Alysabelle Resident sent in a reader submitted story about a very personal story. It was about a year and a half ago in which doctors gave her some bad news. She had come down with cancer. It was a difficult journey, one she wasn't sure she could go through. But she had some people she could turn to. Among them are some here in Second Life.

Cleanup in Montecito Bay Begins

It was a week and a half ago on February 2 that Montecito Bay experienced a number of buildings in the southwest corner of it's sim getting demolished. As everyone was partying in their newly opened Magnum Opus Lounge at the time, no one saw who or what caused the damage, though there was a picture taken of what looked like a flying saucer in the distance. After some going through the rubble by investigators, the cleanup and rebuilding has begun.

The crop-circle patterns on the streets are still glowing. Curiously, a new one has appeared at the sim's entry point, also glowing. As with the original patterns, no one knows how it came to be.

Some strange red stains that look suspiciously like blood splatters remain up. Presumably, investigations are continuing on what it really is and how long it's been up. No investigation findings of either the massive wreckage or the mystery spots have been made public.Neither has a date been given on when the cleanup and repairs are expected to be finished. One date that has been given is for the notices for the club events to be printed in color again instead of the basic black and white pictures they've been for the past two weeks, on February 18. Montecito Bay official Emorald told the Newser that the print shop normally used to make the notices was among those wrecked on Groundhog Day. It wasn't stated though whether or not they'd continue to have the strange hieroglyphic-like symbols on them that had been appearing for weeks.

Addition: Talking to Moff later today, he remarked, "... the cleanup is continuing. We have the Crux Construction Company working 'round the clock to at least get the place cleaned up. It might not get rebuilt right away, because there's all kinds of issues involved with rezoning. But at least we won't look like a junkyard for too much longer."

Computer Update

Some good news concerning my computer. The folder of many months of screenshots which was seemingly lost in March is now opening again. Exactly why it opened just now is as unclear as to why it closed to begin with. But in any event, thousands of screenshots (yours truly can take over a hundred in events like the Relay Weekend) and notes, a fraction of which have ended up in the newsletter, are now back, and this time backed up in a working external drive.

Perri Prinz Returns

It was over a week ago that Perri Prinz, the noted DJ of 60s & 70s music whom made her home in the Sunweaver Estates announced she was leaving Second Life. But with her friends missing her, she began talking about returning soon. And late Friday night she did.

Talking to Perri, she stated she probably would be spending less time on the Grid, notably in the near future, but had healed up enough to be able to deal with Second Life's buggier nature. But she felt her time here as a DJ was over. While she would like to get her club up and running again, she stated she'd need someone to manage it and someone else to handle the DJing.

In the meantime, Perri's friends are happy to have the gentle-natured bunnygirl back, notably her partner RECoyote Mindes.

A Message From Daaneth Kivioq

Earlier today (Sunday May 1st), I was contacted by Daaneth Kivioq, by way of a voice chat. He asked me to teleport to Southern Colorado, saying there were a few things he wanted to explain.

Getting there, still in voice, he told me he wanted me to pass a message on, "I'd like to thank everyone. I can't begin to express how grateful I am to have to have such a bunch of friends. I couldn't have gotten through this without Sabine (McGettigan) ... I am so grateful to have her here. ... I'd like to thank Shockwave for his kind offer to pay for the sim. Southern Colorado is not going anywhere. It has automatic payment set up."

"I'd like to explain what happened. The stroke, it was a complete shock. The hardest part, you don't know what you really lost. The ability to type, that's a hard problem. There's no way to describe it. It hits you like a hammer without warning ... I had the presence of mind to stay conscious, call for help. One of my good friends was around to help me. ..."

The connection began to go bad, and Daaneth told me he had to go, saying he was very much looking forward to meeting up with everyone.

I couldn't see Daan's av at all, and he himself told me he could only see a cloud. But the important thing was our friend was on his way back.
