Guy Fawkes Exhibition

"Remember, remember, the fifth of November." For the people of Great Britain, today is "Guy Fawkes Day," also known as "Bonfire Night." For those who don't know, the holiday is to celebrate the failure of a plot to blow up the English Parliament building with barrels of gunpowder. Guy Fawkes wasn't the ringleader, but was the one caught guarding the explosives. People lit bonfires in celebration. Later celebrations would include fireworks and the throwing of effigies into the bonfires.

To find out a little more about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder plot, there's a place in London Village one can find out a little more: the Guy Fawkes Exhibition for 2018.

Welcome to The Guy Fawkes Exhibition for 2018. This is the 8th year we have staged the Exhibition and we welcome new and old friends visiting this year!

The Gunpowder Plot of 1605, in earlier centuries often called the Gunpowder Treason Plot or the Jesuit Treason, was a failed assassination attempt against King James I of England and VI of Scotland by a group of provincial English Catholics led by Robert Catesby.

Guy Fawkes became synonymous with the Gunpowder Plot, the failure of which has been commemorated in Britain since 5 November 1605. His effigy is traditionally burned on a bonfire, commonly accompanied by a firework display.

Some of the exhibit looks a bit more like a haunted house than a museum, such as the rotten bodies and the flaming barrels. But you soon get to the informative parts of the exhibit, with a display of pictures that when touched will tell the resident about a part of the Gunpowder part. There's also a video one can watch. And there are free items, notably a Guy Fawkes avatar and outfit. You can wear just the outfit on your existing (non-mesh) avatar.

The exhibition will be up to November 12.
