Press Release: Registration Opens for the 2013 48 Hour Film Project Machinima Competition


The 48 Hour Film Project comes to Machinima on the weekend of 8 - 10 November 2013. Filmmakers from all over the variety of virtual worlds and games will compete to see who can make the best short film in only 48 hours. The winning film will go up against films from around the world.

Enter today! Space is limited.

This year, teams will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Once the initial registration is complete, we will add teams to a waiting list.

Press Release: Linden Endowment of the Arts Hosts Project 48 Machinima Premiere Screening in Second Life April 14.

The global sensation that is the 48 Hour Film Project comes to the virtual world of Second Life on with an exclusive inworld screening of all entries from the 2012 Machinima 48 Hour Film Project, accompanied by film crew interviews and a presentation by Emmy nominated Film SFX supervisor Tony Dyson.

22 teams have entered the world famous 48 Hour Film Project Machinima, where crews must create a movie within exactly 48 hours: write, shoot, edit and score it. With 3 required elements (prop, character and line of dialogue) and a randomly-assigned genre, filmmakers must work fast to create high-speed cinematic history. In the Project 48 Machinima edition, films are created within games and online platforms.

The Linden Endowment of the Arts (LEA) is a resident-managed agency within the world of Second Life, tasked with nurturing and promoting the arts community within the virtual world. LEA’s new Media Arts Center specifically works with awareness, education and development of virtual world-generated video (machinima) and will be hosting this screening within its new LEA Theater, a high-tech facility designed for cutting-edge media events.

The program will also feature the head of jury, noted Emmy-nominated special effects supervisor Tony Dyson (Moonraker, Dragon Slayer, Star Wars, Altered States) delivering his jury keynote speech before the official awards ceremony. This event will be streamed live to the Casula Powerhouse Theater in Sydney, Australia.

Other judges; Sean Callinan, Paul Nunes, Chris Howlett, Dan Graf, Trace Sanderson (aka Lainy Voom) and event host Phaylen Fairchild.

The winning film will represent the 48HFPmachinima at the Filmapalooza Filmfestival 2012, in Los Angeles, and take away a grand first prize of 3,000 Australian dollars.

Chantal Harvey and the Month of Machinima

The name most associated with machinima, films done in virtual worlds, in Second Life, is Chantal Harvey. The best known producer of them, she has been working with the Month of Machinima, a monthly review of the best in films produced here. Recently, Netera Landar had a chance to meet up with Chantal Harvey, and talk to her about this and other details around this new genere of media

Peter Greenaway Speaks at 48Hour Film Project Machinima 2010

With so much going on in Second Life, we ended up missing the 48 Hour Film Project Machinima Event late last month. This turned out to be a bigger mistake than we thought, as noted British Film director Peter Greenaway came onto Second Life to give a speech there, giving a few opinions on the subject of machinima. Fortunately, Chantal Harvey recorded the event for us to show.

CALLING ALL Machinimatographers!

The 48 Hour Film Project, the oldest and biggest time filmmaking competition, is looking for machinima! In a wild, sleepless weekend, you and a team will make a movie ---- write, shoot, edit and score it. From scratch. In 48 hours. On Friday, September 17, you'll get a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a genre, all to include in your movie. By Sunday, September 19, the movie must be complete and uploaded to our server in California.

Each completed film is guaranteed a screening in Twinity, Inworldz and Second Life.

Winner ánd runner up will be screened at MachinimaExpo 2010.

Meet other machinimatographers, spend 48 hours in intense movie making, have your film screened in several virtual worlds, and compete to represent machinima against the other 90 48HFP cities! Come on out and make a movie!
