Club Gearz Now Featuring Games

For fans of the Steampunk-themed City of Steelhead, good news. Besides the weekly music and dance parties held at it's Club Gearz every other week, one can now go there for the games. Owner Fuzzball Ortega recently to Ember Games, bought up a number, and placed them on the second floor of the venue.

Bixyl wrote an article about Ember Games shutting down, so I bought some of the games. U-Know (Uno), Skippy (Skip-Bo), Clued Up (Clue), Zilch, and Sparkle (Bejeweled) are set up on the second floor of Club Gearz. The Pacman game, haven't set that up yet. Need a skyplatform, methinks.

As mentioned in Fuzzball's announcement, some the games are based on real-life ones such as Uno and Clue. But others such as Zilch are original. There are a total of six. Expect a seventh, a maze game inspired by Pac-Man, available via a teleporter to a skybox, sometime in the future.

Club Gearz normally has parties every other Friday night from 7 to 9 SL time. It alternates with the "Green Fairy" club in Ravenwood Forest, the one survivor of the original Steelhead sims.

Club Gearz Moves to Steelhead Bay

When the Steelhead community held their first town meeting in their new home of Steelhead Bay last Tuesday, March 21, one matter brought up was the relocation of Club Gearz from Caledon. The theme was agreed upon as "New Beginnings." And on Friday night March 24 at 7PM, the club held it's first event in the sim.

A number of people showed up. Most were Steelheaders, but some were friends, notably from the Relay for Life. Fuzzball Ortega, acting as the DJ, whipped out "The Hair," and played a number of tunes, including what's become the unofficial song of Steelhead: "This is Home."

I've got my memories
Always inside of me
But I can't go back
Back to how it was
I believe you now
I've come too far
No I can't go back
Back to how it was
Created for a place I've never known

This is home
Now I'm finally back to where I belong
Where I Belong
Yeah, this is home
I've been searching for a place of my own
Now I've found it
Maybe this is home
This is home

For the Steelheaders, it was a reminder that at last, they had found their home in the virtual world.

The New Steelhead's First Town Meeting

Steelhead is back. For over a year, the members of the community had to live in other places after the estate faded away from the grid. But with the founding of Steelhead Bay, they now have a home once more. Tuesday night, March 21, was both the opening of the sim to community members and the first town hall meeting since the closing of the old estate.

Steelhead Reunion at Club Gearz

On the night of Tuesday August 2, Fuzzball Ortega, the former sheriff of the noted Steelhead Steampunk community, hosted a reunion meeting with about a dozen members of the group. It was close to a year ago in which the owner of the community's land, TotalLunar Eclipse, reluctantly made his decision to close the estates due to real-life problems and Linden Lab locking out his account in a dispute. While one sim, Nevermoor, was eventually saved, the rest could not be, and closed sometime in November. While the members of the community have scattered, mostly across elsewhere in the Steamlands of Second Life, many if not most have remained in the group. Last weekend, Fuzzball called for another meeting in the second story of Club Gearz, which had been relocated to Port Caledon, if nothing else to discuss possible themes for it and Willow Leafstorm's Green Fairy club still in Ravenwood Forest (former Nevermoor). But he imagined there were many who missed the crazy town hall gatherings, "And besides, when was the last time you said 'Floppy Dong' at a meeting?"

Fuzzball had added a number of pictures of various Steelheaders, from Lunar and Tensai Hilra behind him. Among those attending were Baron and Zantabraxus Wulfenbach, Softpaw Sommers, Willow Leafstorm, Rezzdammit (who sent me the pictures and the minutes), Jimmy Branagh, and others. Sadly Invertigo Caldwell, the "bad blue wolf" whom had caused no shortage of chaos for a time, has been absent from Steelhead activity for over a year.

They discussed the "Almost Lag Free Relay Weekend," which a number took part in other teams as the "Stealhead Salmons" were inactive, "but we'll give it another go, next year, if folks are interested." People were, "It felt...off , to not have a Steelhead campsight." Fuzzball stated he had run 21 laps around the track, but had no comment when Rezzdammit asked if it was all in his wolf form and he was being chased be a girl in a little red riding hood.

Themes were selected for their Friday Night dances, which alternate between the Green Fairy and Club Gearz, the Olympics being the theme for August 12. Fuzzball is still looking for pictures for the second story walls, "there's more photos to be added." Steelhead's school may start again soon, "AthenaeumArchivist is interested in teaching the fresh young minds."

After about an hour, the meeting was adjourned with a number of "Hoooooooo!"s. "Thank you for coming out. I do miss seeing you guys on a regular basis."

Announcement: Steelhead Reunion Meeting Tonight.

I'm planning a Steelhead Reunion Meeting tonight (Tuesday, Aug 2) at 7:30 PM. In other words, our old town meeting time. We'll be holding the meeting on the second level of Club Gearz in Port Caledon

Pretty much like our old meetings, any announcements you want to make, send me (Fuzzball Ortega) a notecard before the  meeting, we'll also take suggestions during the meeting for themes for Friday night dances. And besides, when was the last time you said "Floppy Dong" at a meeting?

Club Gearz Grand Re-Opening

Last week, after months of inactivity, Club Gearz, once the pride of joy of the Steelhead community, reopened in a new steampunk-themed area: Caledon. Although now in a smaller location, the club still had much of the wackiness of old times. Fuzzball Ortega DJed for the opening night, which brought both Steelheaders and friends of from all around.

A Few Weekend Happenings

A number of events happened this weekend. On Friday April 1, Grendel's Children launched their "Trust Nothing" promotion, and Club Gearz (pictured above) had their Grand Re-Opening party. On Saturday, the Furry Gamers group had their "Cheesy" tournament at the Happy Vixen Club with a computer game as the prize. On Sunday, combat roleplayers, including some from New Bastogne, fought in a "Carrier Battle in the Gulf." There were also a number of Relay events across Second Life, including the last day of "Stand UP - Battle of the DJs." The Raglan Shire Tiny-themed community announced some rebuilding of their sim. And more.

More about some of these events later on.

Happy Birthday Fuzzball Ortega

On June 6, Steelhead dedicated their Friday night party to their sheriff, Fuzzball Ortega. His birthday was actually the day before, but no one was counting. So they wooped it up in the steel foundry club, Club Gearz.

Fuzzball himself was DJing as Gary Baum. Normally a lycan/human, for almost a year he's been in a purplish skin as a deal made during last year's Relay. If the Steelhead Salmons made a certain amount, he'd stay purple until the next Relay weekend.

I forgot to ask what the rubber duck was for.

Steelhead's Muppet Dance

Friday February 21 had something different for a theme at Steelhead's Friday Night dance. This time, it was a salute to Jim Henson and his Muppets. The event took place at Club Gearz.

Fuzzball, playing the part of Sesame Street's "The Count," DJed for the event. Unlike the children's TV show puppet, he was able to avoid compulsively counting things, though took the time to thank everyone who tipped, "Vunderful, ha-ha-ha!"

Muppet avatars were a bit few and far between, so others showed up as sock monkeys, wearing Muppet and Sesame Street shirts, shoulder pets, and the like. There was also a sugar glider whom made the party.

A good time was had by all.

Word is, the upcoming Friday Night event at Steelhead will be "Dr Seuss."

The Steelhead Salmons' Kickoff Party

By Jasmine Dawn Shuftan

Well folks, the Steelhead Salmon's are at it again. They're taking no prisoners this time. Not even the Sheriff Fuzzball Ortega is safe. I hear through the grapevine that he's been locked up, and what do I find when I come to check it out? Why I see ole Fuzz locked up and a 4x4x6 cell. With bail set at 5000 Linden, and him still in his tiny little cell put on public display for all to laugh at, even throwing tomato's was authorized. I thought to offer a pair of scissors to help his "colorful" hairdo. Was digging them out till he started the Gangnam Style dance. Lucky for him, during the event here at Club Gearz, the locals all pitched together, raised the 5000L needed for his release.

Upon his release I asked if there was anything he wanted to say and his reply was that this year, the Steelhead Salmons is more about FUNraising than FUNDraising. Also that it's good to be free.

Within a few short minutes of the Sheriff's release another poor soul, Annechen Lowey, was locked up over slander, and accusations of bad fashion sense. Cost of release: another 5000L. This reporter beginning to fear that she might soon get locked up and unfairly accused of a bogus crime decided to flee the scene and town before these random lock-up's got out of hand. I was later informed that the lock-up event was running till well into the night (9 pm SLT).

Sock Hop at Steelhead

A few days ago, Steelhead had a seemingly unlikely event for a Steampunk-themed region: a "Sock Hop."

The event took place at Club Gearz. The place was hardly a typical club, looking much like a steel foundry. The dance floor was not wood, but cast iron. The walls, made out of masonary brick. And next to the dancers was the glow of molten steel as it poured from containers into holes in the ground: the ultimate "lava lamp."

Sheriff Fuzzball Ortega took part as the DJ, "DJ Fuzzball," with various residents showing up. Someone must have cracked a "sock monkey" joke, and it soon took hold. Residents were sporting sock monkeys on their shoulders, or wearing sock monkey costumes. And Fuzzball got into the act by playing monkey themed songs, such as "Donkey Kong" themes and "Code Monkey."

Code Monkey like Fritos,
Code Monkey like Tab and Mountain Dew,
Code Monkey very simple man,
with big warm fuzzy secret heart,
Code Monkey like you,
Code Monkey like you.

Baron Klaus Wulfenback was among those attending the Sock Hop, but after a while he excused himself, "I seem not to have an ear for these modern songs." But the monkeyshines continued on into the night.

Club Gearz is in Steelhead Boomtown, (50, 220, 24)

"Steelhead, where business is monkey business."
