"Free Avatars" or Maybe Not

Everybody loves a bargain, including Second Life residents. And for newcomers short on cash, freebies or nearly free items will make up the bulk of what they can get until they find a way to make money. But what's the catch? Is the item truly free of any cost? Although some items were made free by their creators as a gift to the community, others were done so against their wishes and sometimes for less than innocent reasons.
