Second Life Book Club Islands to Vanish Friday July 11

 

 Remember the Second Life Book Club, hosted by Draxor Despres, that went on for years but ended in November 2024?  Unfortunately, the islands, or archipelago, it took place on, will soon be going away, this Friday, July 11. Draxtor went to take one last look at them, this video of the first island airing last night.

The Buddha Garden

 

It's August, and things in Second Life are slowing down some after the SL Birthday and Summer Burn. So Gemma Cleanslate was looking for a place that was relaxing. She came across the Buddha Garden. This area has many places to relax from beaches to waterfalls to a dining area, and of course temples.

Blue Lagoon

A friend of the Newser recently suggested a place that was worth checking out: Blue Lagoon. Located in the Isle of Blessings sim, the area is owned by Bolera Rau. At ground level, it's a tropical area with a few activities. But there's also some skyboxes with ice skating and a club, and places for a couple to relax a little alone.

More On The Sunweaver Estates Expansion And Other Changes

It's been an active time in the Sunweaver Estates. Last weekend, the place got two new homestead sims, making for a total of ten sims in the main area of the Sunweaver/Angel sims (there are twelve overall). On top of two sims added in August and two sims changing hands, this has meant lots of changes. The Newser went around taking a few pictures and talking to a few people about the new sims and new looks. And the building and rebuilding isn't finished yet.

New Sunweaver Sims: SunWater Two and SunWater Three

In August, the Sunweaver Estates gained a couple sims, Sunweaver Eclipse, and SunWaterOne. Over the weekend, two more homestead sims arrived: SunWaterTwo and SunWaterThree.

The Newser will soon have a little more about these new sims, as well as some changes in SunWaterOne.

Seduction Estates

Becky Shamen's adventures across Second Life recently took her to a 30-sim large area called "Seduction Estates." Her first impression of the place was that of a "clothing optional" tropical island where one could virtually live an upper-class lifestyle, a "Beverly Hills on the sea." So she dropped by with a bikini and a speedboat to look around. So what did she think?

Reader Submitted: Postcards From Greece

 Anne Brightstar, after informing the Newser of a tip that the Greek Islands would soon be closing, send over several screenshots of the location.

 A build of the Parthenon, one of the most famous remains of Ancient Greece.

As it turns out, much of the thirteen sim area has already been lost. How much longer the rest of the estates remains up is unknown.

Taken at the Pooley sim. There, the most prominent land feature was this island shaped like a footprint. Of the small pier, word has it they're a good place to fish for sole.

Two New LEA Exhibitions

After her time at the Relay, Gemma Cleanslate is back looking at art exhibitions. Hearing about two new ones at the Linden Endowment of the Arts regions, she went over and checked them out. One was designed bu Circa Ghost, the other by Livio Korobase. So what did Gemma think?

Otium and Giovanna

Gemma Cleanslate was recently at Otium, a relaxing village and beach area one can to to relax. Along with the scenery, there has been something new added, an art exhibition by Giovanna Cerise. Gemma found the combination one that was not to be missed.

A Look at the Cloud

There's been a little talk about a relatively new virtual world called "Cloud Party." It appeared this summer, though required a Facebook account to connect to. Recently, the Facebook requirement was dropped, so those who want nothing to do with the popular but not always trusted social webservice can now log on with just a password and email account.

Singing up for an account and logging in, there were a few options in customizing one's avatar. There was also the option of moving either via control keys or clicking on a spot on the ground to get there. The land is not divided into sims, but is made up of floating islands. Among them, there's one named "IBM," which was used as a kind of sandbox for various items, including the cannons in the second pictures.

Free houses are available for those currently signing up for accounts. The one I got was on an island resembling a suburban area. Exploring around a little there were some examples of creativity, though those whom suggest it could give Second Life a serious run for it's money are mistaken in my opinion, at least for the near future. While Cloud Party holds promise, for now it doesn't look like it will be real competition for Linden Lab for a while.
