The Harmony Hills Community

 

Netera Landar recently dropped by somewhere that wasn't just a place, but a virtual home for a number of residents, the Harmony Hills Community. Founded a year and a half ago by Angeliana Claro, the place has expanded in size in both land and people to five sims and two hundred locals. So what was the place like besides the numbers?

Shropshire

 

Gemma Cleanslate was recently at a place in Second Life based on a real one: Shropshire. Based on a small community in England founded in Viking times, there's plenty of horse-related activities, as well as roleplay, homes one can live in, and more. Gemma had a chat with it's owners, Jenni Jones (Pixie8615) and Stefan Jones (Skilledavatar), as well as having a good look around.

Two SL22B Exhibits

 

Sadly, time is running out for the SL22B , with just a few days left to explore. If you haven't been there, you're missing out some cool and interesting exhibits. Two at SLB Captivate are a Wild West Town.

There were a number of buildings, and a medicine show wagon.

 

 Each of them had a sign with some information. Reality was sometimes a bit different than what you see in the Westerns in these places in which the myths and legends of continue to shape America today.

Close by was  Erik Mondrian's Pyramid Map exhibit.

Dark Harvest

 

Halloween is fast approaching, and it won't be much longer before the scary season reaches it's peak and then is gone. So Gemma Cleanslate went to look for another Halloween place to write on. She came across one named Dark Harvest. So what did she think?

Burn ONe's Waterworld

 

Last weekend the "Waterworld" event took place in the Burn ONe sim of Highup. The sim had been redone and flooded to look like the setting of the 1995 movie of the name. The events took place on one of the world's floating towns or atolls. Quite a bit of detail went into it, and the Newser was there to take a few pictures.

Montecito Bay Undergoing Rebuilding

Before the Newser closes out our reporting on the month of March, yours truly decided to take a look at our sponsor Montecito Bay. When we last looked at the place in February, some more property had been bought up by a previously unheard of company. The locals hadn't been saying much to begin with, and had been saying little since. So I took a trip over.

The place has been greatly changed from the look it had in it's beginnings. The look of a coastal city in the American southeast in the fifties has given way in places to more futuristic-looking buildings. The Sandbox area no longer looks like a baseball diamond, but an arena for some different kind of sport (and has a billboard to aid in newcomers wanting to learn how to build with prims).

There are some places I hadn't seen before, such as the Wasa Bay sushi bar near the beach. Deeper in the town is the Flying Pickle Food Festival. And with the change having started with stories by an entity named Azucar, there's a tall office building with the Azucar logo. No information is yet available on who they are, or who owns it.

But some places are still around. The beach area is still around, although it's boardwalk is still being worked on. The Avagora Mall has been getting some new shops lately. Becky Nosferatu told me they plan to have, "a ton of stores that will be open by the end of next month." Clubs like the Flying Pickle Lounge and Studio 86 are still around. Dropping by the latter, when I brought up the subject of the changes, not much was spoken, one local commenting, "I'm just glad that they haven't snapped up that lovely Taco Crux restaurant."

The town is still in the middle of renovations with some places obviously halfway finished and some loose prims here and there. Stay tuned for more information.

New Sponsor: The Deathlands

The Newser has a new sponsor today: The Deathlands. The place is a roleplay area described as "an isolated post-apocalyptic island community where a handful of hardy survivors desperately cling to what passes for life after the nuclear winter." The place is run by Rebel Wolf (HermitBlue).

All species of visitors are welcomed, though please mind the rules, notably no flying, no laggy gestures and light shows, and above all no child avatars.

"Old Town" And "Let It Snow"

Christmas is over, but winter continues. And there's no shortage of places with winter activities to do. Gemma Cleanslate recently checked out two. "Old Town" is actually somewhat new, built on the Grid last year. But the area is quite scenic and has activities every week. "Let It Snow" also has a good amount of scenery, but also shops and a place to just sit and relax with a hot chocolate.

The Deathlands

What would life be like after a cataclysm destroyed life as we know it? What if the life you once knew, or your parents knew, was a distant memory of times of plenty as you yourself just scrape by with few pleasures. That in a nutshell describes the environment of "The Deadlands," a roleplay sim of life after the apocalypse. I recently had a tour of the place from the owner. But not everything was bleak. While there, a party was thrown.

Mardi Gras Places in Second Life

On February 13, Mardi Gras will be taking place around the world. Second Life is no exception, and there are some various places set up to celebrate "Fat Tuesday." Gemma Cleanslate went to a few places. One known to some readers is Laura Liberty's Mardi Gras Town which appears every year. But there are some other noteworthy locations.

A Steamy Mystery at Terradale

Gemma Clenaslate is back from the Linden Endowment for the Arts areas with a story of one particular exhibit. At LEA12 is an exhibition by Chic Aeon not meant to be flashy and "sparkly," but instead tells the story of a woman, Sarah, who has gone missing. As visitors walk around, they learn more about who she is and eventually what happened.

Townies Presents Valentine and Mardi Gras Towns

Townies is back. The sim that takes on a new look every major holiday is now ready for February. But this time the sim is the home of two towns, not just one. Step into Valentine Town, with it's rivers of chocolate and plenty of shops with something special for your special someone. Next head over to Mardi Gras Town, where it's New Orleans partying up for "Fat Tuesday." Gemma Cleanslate took a look at the sim to see both places.

Tableau

Becky Shamen's travels across Second Life recently took her to a dusty place called Tableau. Set in a desert, the place is a ghost town with few clues as to what could have caused the people to abandon the place (okay, maybe one big clue). Becky described the place, in case you the readers wish to go and find out what happened.

It's St. Patrick's Day. And to help celebrate the holiday, Laura Liberty is back with her latest holiday themed town: "St. Patrick's Town" in Mango Bay. Second Life Newser stopped by to look around and see what there was to look at, and do.

Mardi Gras in Second Life

Almost everyone loves a good party. And at this time of year the biggest theme for a party aside from Valentines Day is Mardi Gras, also known as "Carnival" or "Fat Tuesday." Gemma Cleanslate checked out a few places that were celebrating the holiday. With it's close association with New Orleans in the US, some places were decorated much like the city's French Quarter. And of course there were the costumes, some quite colorful.

Gemma Cleanslate was recently at Otium, a relaxing village and beach area one can to to relax. Along with the scenery, there has been something new added, an art exhibition by Giovanna Cerise. Gemma found the combination one that was not to be missed.

Scenes From The Relay For Life Christmas Expo

Today marks the final day of the Relay For Life's Christmas Expo this year. For ten days, the event in which over seventy merchants put up items to sell for charity, and numerous DJs provided music for events have taken place. So it's the last chance to drop by to enjoy the scenery and events, such as the announcing of the Avi Choice Awards today at 3PM. To see what awaits you there, the Newser has taken a number of screenshots of the Expo grounds.

Laura Liberty’s Valentine Town

Valentine's Day is almost here. And that means getting some gifts for a loved one, or perhaps just walking around in a place with a romantic atmosphere. DrFran Babcock found one such place at Builder's Brewery: Valentine Town. There, one can get some candy & flowers, or a card, or just browse around the sights where love truly is in the air.
