More Halloween Locations in The Destinations Guide

We were hoping  to write a little more on Halloween locations. But alas, real life got in the way. We've written about a bunch, but there are more. Don't forget to check out the Destinations Guide for some spooky fun locations from haunted houses, to shopping, to escape rooms and other games, and more.

Halloween at Club Zero Gravity

October is Halloween month, and there have been spooky parties all over. This includes Club Zero Gravity, the space station club of the Sunweaver Angels community.

DJ Snowy (Skylark Lefavre) played the tunes in a Crux avie. Hostess Kylee Gracemount was costumed as a witch. Manager Mato (Matoazma Kazyanenko), was dressed as a nurse in case anyone partied too hard.

And people showed up in all sorts of costumes, This included Sunweaver community leader Rita Mariner as a Ghostbuster.

It was a "spooktacular" party.

Club Zero Gravity has events every Wednesday from 4-6PM at Sunweaver Space (129, 249, 3597).

"The Multiverse Fair," A Halloween Fundraiser For Parkinson's

The Multiverse Fair is going on. This fundraiser for Parkinson's Disease research takes place over seven sims, and is going on until Tuesday November 4.

Multiverse Fair is a seven region mega event in Second Life supporting The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Step into the ripple where realities collide. The Multiverse Fair is not just an event, it’s a dimensional detour through twisted fantasy, surreal sci-fi, and haunted dreams. Seven realms. Countless stories. Booths, quests, secrets, and surprises await. Come get lost you might just find something impossible. One question: What even is reality?

The grounds consist of seven sins (the one on the map on the upper right is a phantom that can't be reached). Five have various themes, related to Halloween. They are Dodge City (think Weird West), Folktales and Fleshwounds, Carnival Nocturne (evil clowns), Uncanny Ink, and Lolliocalypse.

The sims have some scary scenery. And I found shops all over with various goods.

Note: from the chatter on Discord, Lolliocalypse sounds super-scary to some.

The mascot of the fair are the Nubbins. You can buy an animesh one for 800L,and take part in the "Hunt for Nubbins" game in which you search for little statues of the critters across the sims for prizes.

Every day up to Monday Novemeber third, there are music events.  For more events, check the schedule (here).

The music events take place on the EclipticAquatia sim, at (128/133/22).

So to have a scary time, and support a good cause while doing so, head on over to the Multiverse Fair.

"Dedication to Crim" Video Updated

A few days ago, the Newser posted a "Dedication to Crim" video by Bain Finch, the song sung by Empress Luna at the memorial service to Crim Mip on October 4 with a number of screenshots. Since then, the video was taken down, and redone, giving it a new address and making the old link unviewable. It has been corrected.

On another note, the Newser is doing an article about the funeral, but a combination of the writer's real-life plus writing about Halloween has delayed it. It should be done soon.

Burn2 Ends, Burning of "The Man"

This weekend saw the last two days of the Burning Man art and music festival, and on Saturday October 25 was the main event: the burning of "The Man." A crowd gathered to see the final moments of the wooden effigy (this was the best picture of the crowd I could get before I crashed).

Before the burn, the lamplighters would do a dance.

There were also some fireworks. Some minutes after Noon SL time, "The Man" caught fire.

The effigy burned to a char and began to fall apart. And as the burning wood fell, the base caught fire as well.

And that too burned away and fell apart.

Once the fire died down, people were invited to dance on the embers.

The festival is now over, though many of the art exhibits will still be up for a few more days. Feel free to explore them. Some Burners may also be throwing impromptu parties. But soon all of the temporary builds will be gone, leaving no trace. At least until the Winter Burn in a few months.

Cartoon of The Day: Party Gravestones

Taken at Club Zero Gravity. Among the Halloween decorations were some gravestones. Very picturesque and added to the spookiness. But the problem with a hard stone object in the middle of a dance floor is obvious, and at one point people joked about them.

Sometimes the best punch lines others come up with.

Luna's Empire Fallout Equestria Ghost Hunt

Once again, the Luna's Empire Event sim is hosting a Halloween Ghost Hunt event. But this time, it has a new twist. This year, it has a "Fallout" theme, taking place decades after a civilization-ending event, and this time you take down monsters.

Near the entrance, you pick up some gear, the weapon and a couple HUDs. It is recommended you take off unnecessary HUDs and scripts to lighten your load to make play easier for you, and others.

The lower right HUD keeps track of how much you've been slimed, which happens when monsters touch you, which clogs your screen and reduces the amount of candy you get from busted creatures. It also keeps track of how much candy you have, and what fighter class you are. The HUD on the upper left shows your location on the map, as well as locations of some monsters.

Some monsters can be taken on single-hamded. Others are stronger, and require a team effort. But they drop more candy when beaten. There's also a boss monster in a special area that's only accessible every so often.

You can exchange the candy for prizes near the entrance. While some are pony-themed and not much good for human or furry or tiny avatars, others are useable by most everyone..

The game costs nothing, so if you're a pony of Fallout fan, or like busting monsters in general, come on over and zap away.

EOTB: Call For Merchants For Christmas Shop And Hop, Ends November 2

It's not even Halloween, and already Linden Lab is getting ready for Christmas. Yesterday on the official blog, the Lab announced they were accepting applications for those wanting shops in the 2025 Holiday Shop and Hop.

Mark your calendars for a spectacular shopping extravaganza starting on December 5th, 2025, and running through January 4th, 2026. Get ready for a festive shopping experience like no other!

Those merchants interested need to fill out a form on Google Docs (here). The following conditions apply:

* Merchants are required to provide a NEW non-group gift.
* Merchants are required to have at least a 20% discount on ALL items present at the Shop and Hop location.
* Items need to be appropriate for a moderate audience and adhere to the Linden Lab ToS.
* Content should not contain or reference political issues or figures.

The setup period is Nov 5 to Dec 1, and merchants will be asked what they sell the most of and it is reminding that applying does not guarantee a spot.

The Lab would remind people that the Halloween Shop and Hop is still going on, and invite people to check it out.

Necropolis Umbrae And Bewitched

Gemma Cleanslate has continued to check out Halloween places as the month of October ticks on. Necropolis Umbrae is a darkly enticing cemetery with a riddle in it's library. She was able to solve it, but can you? Bewitched had many places to see, including a foreboding castle to explore, and a haunted railway to ride. And she stopped by Yosemite, which has decorated one place up for the spooky season.

Read Gemma's article in Places.

Scenes From Burn2

Burn2, the Second Life version of the real-life Burning Man festival, is going on. Across 12 sims, there are various exhibits and music events going on. While the official entrance at Burning Man-Deep Hole (147/30/24), one can enter on the grounds anywhere.

There are artistic exhibits of all kinds.

This year's theme is "Tomorrow/Today," and some of the exhibits reflected that with retro-future themes.

There were also parties were music was played and people danced.

There were tour balloons people could see the grounds from above with.

Burners would drive around in mutant vehicles

And in the center of the grounds was "The Man," a huge effigy to be burned this Saturday.

Burn2 goes on until about Midnight on Sunday June 26. But the exhibits should be up for a couple more days.

"Massive" Amazon Server Troubles Take Down Much of Internet

If you've had some trouble online today, you're far from alone. Various Internet services from Snapchat to Netflix to Reddit and were down, and many others had problems because of an Amazon Web Services server outage. The trouble supposedly started today, Monday October 20, at 2:40 AM EST, possibly at one of their largest datacenters in northern Virginia. There were supposedly "over 1,000 businesses impacts, including many banks." The total damage done may be in the billions of dollars.

Second Life was affected as well, the Grid Status report showing "A service provider for Second Life is currently experiencing an outage which is affecting the Destinations page: secondlife.com/destinations/" Search was affected as well. A couple friends told me they had problems getting on.

Supposedly the data engineers have taken care of the trouble, though this is a reminder of how many companies use Amazon servers, and what can happen when something big goes wrong

Making The Upgrade to Windows 11

 Well, finally did it.

It was last week on October 14 that after ten years of use, Microsoft finally ended support for Windows 10, which in the early days they were calling the last Operating System we would be needing. But as we all know, that would not be the case and Windows 11 was developed. Early on, I heard about some issues, and like many saw no reason to change.

But a couple years ago, Microsoft announced support for Windows 10 was ending in October of this year. While there was the option to extend Windows 10 support (article), it would be only for a year. So decided to just go ahead and make the change. So I figured out what to do, and then restarted.

So far, things seem okay, just different. One driver had an error message, but that may have been temporary. Getting used to things and figuring things out. So the news will be a little late.

For those who haven't updated yet, there are still ways to do so (article).

At The PBC Fright Fest Kickoff

Wednesday October 15 was the first day of the "Fright Fest" at the Premier Business Center. At 4 PM, there were dozens there, most in costumes and dancing away to the music.

Jarden Alexis, the owner of the PBC, was there in a striped outfit and makeup. The DJ was encouraging the crowd over the airwaves while dancing away in a green Power Rangers costume.

There were costumes of all kinds.

That wouldn't be the only day of the Fright Fest. It's going on again today, Friday Oct 17, at 4PM, as well as Oct 19, 23, and 30. Between parties, one can explore around the haunted town, including an escape room.
