Scenes From Second Life: Beth Odets and Bat Masters

Musicians Beth Odets and Bat Masters performing at "Feed a Smile" on Saturday January 20. They were part of an event that had raised 22,000 Lindens by the time I teleported out. Both have been playing in Second Life for many years, sometimes with one another. Occasionally, they rib one another. "We are mutually .. pointing at each other," Beth would tell me yesterday, "for our and the others benefit."

At 6pm, David Csiszer takes the stage, a Songwriter/Singer/Multi-Instrumentalist who delivers an unique array of original songs as well as classic cover tunes ranging from alternative & acoustic rock to blues & jazz.

Beth Odets, who has been playing violin for 33 years, and is a classically trained concert violinist who is now the greatest itinerant fiddlist in Second Life, will share her many talents and professional antics at 7pm.

Gracing the stage at 8pm for a fun journey will be Vinnie of The Vinnie Show, winner of 2016 Avi choice for Favorite Acoustic and Original songs, who will sing current favorites to Classic Rock & Pop, plus ORIGINALS - all acoustically.

Finally, at 9pm, DJ Moonryme will be leaving everyone with songs of dark happiness that range from trance, EBM, industrial, darkwave, to retro.

Everyone is encouraged to explore Zamargad at their leaisure, as all parcels will be tuned into each entertainer's stream during their performance.  More details about the artists are available in the inworld invitation, or by contacting David Csiszer's Manager, Nyna Slate-Sands (nyna.slate), or The Vinnie Show Manager, daallee rhapsody™ (daallee), or by contacting Astoria Luminos, Beth Odets, or Moonryme directly.

Beth Odets Fiddling on the Grid Again

Just before 2PM on Friday August 26th yesterday, Beth Odets made a group announcement that she would be performing music in a few minutes. She would be playing at the Oceanus aquatic club. The response in the group was full of cheers and praises, "Yay!" "Yay Beth!" Beth was clearly in good spirits, poking fun at her recent surgery, "This'll be the first time since my brain drain."

Heading over to Oceanus, the club was quickly getting filled. It was clear Beth's fans had missed her. The cheers continued, and the crowd both eagerly awaited her music and expressed well-wishes for a continued recovery.

Welcome back to Second Life, Beth.

A Gathering Of Friends

They called it "A Gathering of Friends at Bowery Beach" and it was dedicated to a woman who is known and respected by all. Her name is Beth Odets and if you follow her solo and streaming duets you know she's a talented violinist with a wonderful sense of humor.

On Monday, Aug. 22, Odets was admitted into the hospital to have brain surgery. Rock Doghouse and a sim full of devoted friends, and her brother, gathered to show their love and support. Updates were given throughout the night.

On an impressive stage, when I received my invite from Jackson Sharpshire, was Matthew Perreault, Odets real-life buddy and SL partner. The only way to describe what we were all experiencing was connected. Connected to the people who love her and connected to her to show our support.

Musicians took turns performing. Up next were KevinMThomas Carpool and Edward Lowell. Following them were Bat Masters and Steely Decosta. The songs, as well as the many texted comments, were very touching.

The next morning, I learned from Sharpshire that Beth, Rock and other friends were skyping with Odets via phone shortly after she awoke.

Netara Landar

*Editor's Note* I was able to drop in thanks to Netara, and it was quite an event. The grounds in front of the stage were truly packed. One line that stood out was Rock Doghouse saying, "Thanks everyone for being here for Beth... she knows everyone is here and says thank you and loves ya... she is going into surgery right now... drafty hospital gown and all (grin)."

Over $9,000 Dollars Raised for Beth Odets’ Brain Surgery

Last week, New World Notes reported that Beth Odets, “a longtime Second Life community leader, artist, and musician” was going through surgery to remove a brain tumor. In a couple days, $6,000 US Dollars had been raised. Since then, the money has continued to come in. Daniel Voyager recently posted that the total had passed nine thousand dollars.

Beth Odets, a longtime Second Life community leader, artist, and musician, is undergoing brain surgery to remove a tumor, and her friend Eshi Otawara, a famed fashion designer, has discounted some of her widely-admired designs to help cover the costs of the operation.

Someone commented one reason this fundraising hasn’t gotten more attention is because of Beth’s humility. During the "Jamm for Genes," she asked people to donate to the children’s charity, but spoke nothing about her own troubles.

Further donations can be made on the appropriately named “Beth’s Brain” website, which shows daily totals and a donor list.

*Addition* - As of Friday August 12, the combined total of donations raised in Second Life and Paypal was over $15,300 dollars.
