Interview with Philp Rosedale at Burn2 by Emcee Widget
(Click here if you can't see the video )
During the SL10B, Philip Rosedale, the founder of Linden Lab and Second Life, was interviewed by Emcee Widget at the Burn2 sim. Rosedale's avatar was quite different from his old Linden one, and commented at the length of time it took to set up his voice for the interview, "I'm the guy who created this thing, and it just took me an hour to get this working." There was an audience of a little more than 20 avatars.
Rosedale told Emcee that he continued to be inspired by Second Life's community. Emcee brought up a quote by Steve Jobs about present day computer technologies being obsolete in ten years, and Rosedale commented with that in mind, "Second Life has fared fairly well in that reguard." The "explosion" of small handheld devices was also mentioned, Rosedale saying ten years ago this broad level of access to technology wasn't imagined.
They talked on about how virtual worlds might be in the future. Rosedale at one point mentioned a "SETI solution" to getting more processing power onto a grid, "throw the computer into a pool" for a virtual world, "we'd have a ton of computers … if we used those computers on a server network." He also brought up the gyros and sensors in today's handheld devices, and thought they would allow future virtual world users to go beyond the mouse and keyboard. He also thought there might be developments on ways to get more avatars within a region, as well as ways prove one's real-life identity, "How do you know I'm really Philip Rosedale?"
When asked what he was doing besides work on Hi-Fidelity and virtual worlds, Rosedale told he had taken up boxing, "I thought I could have an amazing experience improving myself." He talked about how "an accelerometer on your head" could be developed to help prevent injury. He also planned to be at the next Burning Man festival.
And what would he be doing in 2023? Rosedale answered that he honestly didn't truly know, though felt it was a safe answer he'd still be working on virtual worlds.
"You gotta have shoes."

world of Second Life. It is an officially sanctioned Burning Man regional event,
and the only virtual world event out of more than 100 real world Regional
groups.
The BURN2 Team operates events year around, culminating in an annual major
festival of community, art and fire in the fall - a virtual echo of Burning Man
itself.

Burn2 is Ready
It is finally here! The day before the opening of Burn2 in SL! http://burn2.org/about
for those unfamiliar with the burn. Thursday, the press crowded the
playa taking pictures and looking at everything, meeting the main people
involved in all the work that has been going on behind the scenes and on
the playa itself.
Emcee Widget, regional representative was available at
the communications area, as were Neeks Karu (left), Buttermilk Panacek, Jeanbaptiste of the Lamplighters, Barbs Kurka of performance, and more. I took some
pictures of amazing sights you will see when you arrive at the gate and enter
the playa. Ub Yifi has some permanent greeters in place LOL. The real greeters
will be there too with information on where to go and what to do.
I can
finally show some of the marvelous creations awaiting you. The Guru Stage is
magnificent. The Temple is lovely. The man stands tall. Neeks Karu had a lot to
do with the building and overseeing or happenings on the playa every day during
the building. So much work went into the preparation. Everyone is to be
thanked when you see them on the playa!
Get ready to party!

Coming Events: SL8B and Burn2
All of a sudden, I feel like I am caught in a time warp.
I am a greeter for the SL8B. That begins as you know on June 25. Building is underway, performers preparing, stage managers ready, greeters meeting , and the electricity is in every step. I spent some time in a machinima changing avatars and spinning on an avatar wheel. It was great fun and you will be able to view it soon.
In the midst of this, I had a notice to come to a meeting for Burn2, 2011! Wow.. I thought that was a long way off. Well, it is not until October, however work is beginning. Emcee Widget filled everyone in on the plans for this year's Burn2 Rites of Passage. It will be held October 1 through 9. There will be 8 sims to begin. However there is a plan this year to ask for “donation” of sims for 90 days. They will be moved to the 8 sims and then returned to the donors.
There are hopes that donations will also help provide more sims even up to 18. They will also taking donations for sims that will be purchased for 2000L. If you donate to he purchase of a sim it will be done in increments so that if the 2000L is not reached your donation amount will be returned to you . That means there can be more creative plots available to those who wish to participate. The information tent is open on Deep Hole so you can visit: Burning Man- Deep Hole (241, 89, 24).
Plots are ready for purchase or, for 100L you can enter a lottery for a plot. Right now is the time to look at the volunteer positions that are open . There are many fun jobs you can do . Here is a list of volunteer positions you can read about and on the page you will find a link to the application: http://www.burn2.org/open-jobs.
There will be more information coming as the build time starting in August approaches and I will keep you apprised. It is early yet but time passes so quickly in Second Life!
Burn On!!
