Christmas Expo Pictures

For those who didn't get much time to see the Relay for Life Christmas Expo last week in Second Life, or are already missing the sights, photographers Wildstar Beaumont and IshtarAngel Micheline (P.S. Hernandez) posted a number of screenshots on their Flickt pages. Some are funny, some are detailed, but all are worth seeing and the sets are a good way to remember this big Christmas event.

Today Last Day Up For the Relay Sims

With the time until the Relay sims come down getting closer, many were taking some time, even if it was brief, to give then another look. I happened to catch this meetup between Trader Whiplash, Gem Sunkiller, and Aryon Dagger.

Fuzzball Ortega was also giving the track a look. As far as yours truly knows, he walked most of the way. Though word has it he was in a go-cart part of the way.

Among the people I ran into was Nancy Clowes, the head of the "Fun Rides and Amusement Parks" group. She introduced me to Pryda Parx, the producer of the Future Shock machinima series.

Valkyrie Ice found an Asian-themed build at RFL Journey. Since she couldn't take it with her, she took a number of picturesque screenshots with her in a Chinese outfit.

There were two announcements in the Relay groups today. One was the time for the "Flood Party, " which was scheduled to be between 5PM and 7PM somewhere in the Relay sims.

Location TBA on Wednesday
Join us one last time for a Farewell party to the Relay Sim.
Dance, party and share your relay memories!

Bring your inner tube to put on and wear your water proof clothes....just sayin.

The other announcement was a sadder one, that after Wednesday, the event would be coming to a close.

Sadly the Relay Sims need to be returned. Campsite clean up must be done by Thursday June 21  11pm slt. We are not responsible for any no copy items left on the sims after that time.

Please try to leave the campsites /builds up until Wednesday night or Thursday if you can, as ppl are still visiting.

For those who want to see lots of screenshots of the Relay Weekend, there is the Relay for Life in Second Life Flickr page. Among the top contributors, Wildstar Beaumont, and IshtarAngel Micheline (Ishtarkiss)

Triumph: Relay Weekend Concludes

Yesterday marked the second half of the Relay Weekend, also known as the Relay Walk, marked by 24 hours of walking across a track across almost 40 sims. In the pre-dawn and early morning, the Relayers continued to walk the track. Some had taken breaks to sleep, but a hardy few continued on without so much as a nap.

At 10AM were the official closing ceremonies.  Committee members thanked the hundreds whom had taken part, large and small, as well as recognizing certain individuals whom had made special efforts. There were also some team awards given out. There were also reminders of why the struggle continues, stories of people who had survived their battle with cancer, and of people who had not.

Among the teams getting awards was Team Sunbeamers. They had received the Cancer Education Awareness Award: 1st place. Since it's creation, the team had earned awards for fundraising, but not for it's campsite. This time it had. So when it walked the Victory Lap following the closing ceremonies, marked with fireworks at certain locations on the track, it did so with Cynthia Farshore, one of the builders of it's award-winning camp, it's flag flying high.

After the victory lap was an impromptu event at the T-1 Radio location. And a number of people whooped it up. While there might not have been a "skunknado," at one point a thirty foot woman showed up.

Members of team Sunbeamers would later get copies of their award. Also given out were teamwork awards, and awards for completing at least one lap of the Relay Track. Cynthia Farshore would get the "Rabbit Award" for making more than ten laps.

The SL Newser will display more pictures of the track later. For those who can't wait, IshtarAngel Micheline has a few up on her Flickr, of both the ceremonies, and of the track.

*Addition*  - the sims will remain up until at least late Wednesday night. While no date for the "flood party," a recent tradition for the Relayers, has been given yet, it's often on the Wednesday afternoon following the Relay Weekend.

Reader Submitted: "Many Faces" of the Relay Luminaria Ceremony

Taken by IshtarAngel Micheline during the Relay Walk's Luminaria Ceremony hour, Darla Domenici and several other child avatars take time to remember friends and family whom passed away.
Ishtar originally titled this "Many Faces."

The Relay continues today, with the themed laps going on to Noon SL time. But the track and it's builds will be open for a few more days this week. While the sims might be up all week, visit early if you can as some builders may clean up by mid-week.

You can also see SL TV coverage of the Relay on Livestream: (Click Here).

Steelhead Salmon's Relay for Life Festival

At the Steelhead Estates, the community's Relay For Life team, the Steelhead Salmons, are having their festival this weekend. The festival began yesterday on Friday, and will continue on to Sunday. Each day has it's own event, plus there's a "treasure hunt" throughout the festival.

For the Treasure Hunt, start at Steelhead (89, 137, 25)

Find all 12 awareness ribbons throughout Steelhead! Each stop takes you to a different destination in Steelhead where you have to hunt for the next clue. At the end of the journey you'll find some gifts courtesy of various Steelhead Vendors and citizens. Remember, the hunt begins July 5th and ends July 7th. Your first clue takes you to Main Steelhead... good luck!

From about 7-10PM on Friday July 5, the Salmons hosted a "Cowboys and Indians" part. Fuzzball Ortega DJed for the party for the first two hours while DJ Zanya spun the tunes for the third. Steelhead's residents then exchanged their usual Victorian wear for something more rustic of the Old West as they danced near a set up Indian village, with at least one resident taking on the part of an Indian. One wag had a creative interpretation of "cowboy" by dressing up as a player of the Dallas Cowboys football team.

For a list of pictures, check IshtarAngel Micheline's Flickr account section (here).

On Saturday July 6, the Steelhead will be having it's Steelhead Salmons Annual Horse Race. The entry fee is 50L, payable into the Relay kiosk. Starting at 5:20, there will be three races, two are for horses, with the third for other animal mounts. Besides trophies for each race, there will be "an award for best costume and most unusual animal."

The race track is on a sky platform above the sim at Steelhead Shanghai (127, 128, 2504)

On Sunday July 8th, the festival wraps things up with a dance party at Club Gears. Fuzball Ortega will be DJing from 7 to 9, broadcasting the music onto Krypton Radio ad DJ DeBaum.

Relay for Life "Time For Life"

Submitted to the RFL group by IshtarAngel Micheline, "I've taken a few pictures of the builds for next Saturday and thought I would present this as a little gift for you all." In group chat, she called it the process of ten hours of editing. Over and over in Relay chat, people called it "What a beautiful picture."
