Fuzzball Ortega Planning to Reopen Steelhead

In November 2015, the Steelhead Community's sims closed down, a result of the real life financial and personal difficulties of the landowner TotalLunar Eclipse (as well as Linden Lab locking our the account in a dispute). Since then, the community has existed in a kind of diaspora, many finding new homes in the Caledon and New Babbage areas. But they never quite forgot their old home. Especially not it's appointed sheriff Fuzzball Ortega. As time went on, he eventually would reopen the community's steampunk club Club Gearz, and hold a Steelhead reunion. But it wasn't quite the same.

But on Monday, Fuzzball made an announcement in the Steelhead Facebook group.

So, here's the deal. Since Steelhead closed. I had been researching on sim ownership and Mainland ownership. Caledon is nice, but it was not quite home.

At the job that pays the bills, I got a promotion, with a nice pay raise. Also, did my taxes and, despite paying a penalty for a brief period of time of not having insurance last year, I'm getting a good chunk of change back. I'm not in debt, I don't have rent or any huge bills to pay, so I decided to purchase my own sim, soon as the refund comes in. And I would still have plenty of money from my refund check left over to hold on to.

I also wanted to use it as a tie in of sorts for a future project that I'm working on for Krypton Radio. The name of the sim will be Steelhead Bay.

Steelhead chat had at least one lively discussion, "Steelhead will rise from ashes!" "Promoted from marshall to mayor - dat's not too shabby." Jimmy Branagh mused, "Does that mean I'm promoted to Marshal?" "Only if you rent a parcel." He was told by someone. Jimmy responded, "Ah, buying high office is still an art in Steelhead." Fuzzball finally broke in, "Calm down, everyone. It ain't gonna happen right away. Still have to procure the funds. But it will happen, I promise." "Well, you seem to have a bunch of willing renters Mr. Fuzzy." he was told. "I'll explain everything in due time."

So it would seem Steelhead is finally coming back. Most likely this time there will be no Mount Saint Hellens eruptions. But perhaps we'll see more of characters such as the Sasquatch, and Jobias Barthelmess, and events as only Steelhead could do them like "Hot Cocoa."

Bruce Boxleitner to be Interviewed on Krypton Radio

Krypton Radio, which broadcasts in the Steelhead Estates and other places in Second Life, as well as outside the Grid, will be having a guest known to science fiction fans on one of it's shows. This Saturday on "The Event Horizon" radio show, Bruce Boxleitner of Babylon 5 and Tron fame will made a guest appearance. Boxleitner has a new show in development, Lantern City, a Steampunk series.

Fuzzball Ortega, who is known on Krypton Radio as personality Gary DaBaum, felt that Second Life's large population of steampunk fans, would take great interest about this week's topic.

The Event Horizon airs every Satruday night at 9:00 PM SLT. It is a panel discussion show with writers, artists, filmmakers and others in the science fiction, fantasy, comic book and gaming world.

One can listen in at Krypton Radio here: http://listento.kryptonradio.com:8000 .

Guy Fawkes Night at Steelhead's Friday Ball

Friday night in the community of Steelhead is Guy Fawkes Night, in which the Steelheaders "pretend it's the 5th of November, and dance away under the town hall." Those Guy Fawkes masks seen at protests and elsewhere are encouraged, "Bring your revolution masks and some dynamite."

The dance is at the Steelhead Ballroom in Steelhead Capital City and broadcasted on Krypton Radio. The event starts at 7 SL time, and goes on until at least 9, or until the last people leave.

Steelhead Ballroom's "Dr. Who" Night on Krypton Radio

On Friday night, August 31st at 7PM, there was an event at the Steelhead ballroom that was special in two ways. One, in honor of the new season of "Dr. Who," the dance had the theme of the noted time traveler's show, with some dressed up in various outfits of The Doctor, or other characters on the show such as a Sister of Plenitude.

The second thing that made the party special was that Fuzzball Ortega, shown here in the Fourth Doctor's scarf with Eugenia Burton Ortega , was DJing for Krypton Radio as well as those in the Ballroom. He was known on the station as Gary DaBaum.

There were a few props set up, such as this gate and a Tardis, as well as pictures of the various incarnations of The Doctor, the plotline explaining changes of actors that the character was able to regenerate after a near-death experience.

Several of the Justice League Unlimited (JLU) group who run Krypton Radio were present at the event, including Kalel Venkman. Kalel called Fuzz, "our first live DJ. Krypton Radio's been in continous operation since 2009. We're a news site as well." He also stated Krypton Radio also does a number of science fiction and comic-themed radio programs, "It's quite a niche we've found for ourselves. ... We're even on iTunes in the radio section."

Kalel thought Fuzz was "doing a fantastic job. ... Fuzzball will be back on Krypton Radio in two weeks - he's going to get his own regular time slot!"

The event went on longer than the planned two hours before all went their separate ways.

Second and third pictures from Eugenia Burton Ortega.
