Scenes From The Christmas Expo

The Christmas Expo opened last Friday, November 29, and there's been plenty of fun to be had there. At the music area, I saw a live performers sing away to audiences that included a few dragons and a unicorn.

There were activities, such as taking a ride on Santa's sleigh across the sims.

There were various decorated houses om the sims, reflecting the theme "Christmas Through The Decades."

There were auctions in cooperation with the Lab for last names, a homestead sim, time with Patch Linden, and more.

Besides all this, there's time with Santa Patch, and lots and lots of shopping.

The Linden And Mole Jail and Bail

The Fantasy Faire is known for many things. Among them are the "Jail and Bail" fundraising events. But on Friday April 19 was the Linden and Mole Jail and Bail. Scheduled for 1 to 3PM SL time, this was a chance for residents to bid on things, and get a limited edition pet.

The annual Linden & Mole Show is in town! Apparently they have run away to join the circus, and will continue to trick you — wait, I mean — perform tricks until ticket prices in RFL kiosks (and morale) improve! Exclusive Faire boopie available only at this show! (What is a boopie? Come over and find out!) Other briberies of various sorts to be revealed on location! You’d think they want to get back to juggling JIRAs and feeding server hamsters with these offers! ‘n here I thought they liked the circus. Do YOU want your grid running? Do YOU want bugs squashed? Do YOU want the Birthday Celebration? ONLY YOU CAN SAVE THE LINDENS! (and put them back to work)

Dropping by the sim The Golden Hour, saying the place was packed was an understatement. There were about a hundred and forty avatars present, and it took several minutes for half of them to rezz. A circus tent stood out just behind the Kindens and Moles. Wendi Linden was there, juggling. Ancient Mole was there in his fishy tiny avatar, acting like a circus strongman with a barbell.

And there was Patch Linden. Patch has been quiet in Second Life lately, not having spoken anything in Bellissaria chat for weeks, and sitting out the VWBPE Linden event for the first time in some years. He would be among those my viewer stubbornly refused to rezz, I getting the picture here from Wildstar Beaumont.

There was one item available for free for anyone, a "wootberry juice" fountain. As mentioned in the announcement, there was also an item for sale exclusively for the event: a "Boopie" pet. It was actually a set of three, one animated that floated over your shoulder and sparkled occasionally, one hugable and sparkled when pressed, and one static that was meant to be placed somewhere.

I arrived somewhat late.  Fantasy (FantasyFaire Resident) was ringing out the totals, at 425,000 L raused There were all sorts of things being bid on. One was "dinner with Ancient (Mole)." Someone looked at Ancient's green appearance, "Is it dangerous to feed Ancient after midnight?" Then Patch offered the following, "Alright, here's another really special one!   A Family Name Change, which includes a custom last name of your choosing, and up to 10 invited friends or family to join in with having the same last name with the winner!" The bids went from 25,000 to 50,000 and to a whopping 100,000 Linden dollars. That turned out to be the final bid.

Patch would offer some good news, "First, The Faire shall get an extra two days for all to enjoy, it will be open until May 7th!!!" That got cheers, "Two more days!" Then Patch offered, "And lastly, as Linden Lab and Second Life's other gift to the Faire this year, we're going to offer the ability to receive a name change to Fairelander which will be available exclusively here at the fair, through to the end, and 100% of the L$ proceeds for purchasing the name change will be given to the Faire and the American Cancer Society.  For more information on how to obtain please watch for an announcement at: https://fantasyfairesl.wordpress.com/ ." Ancient would later say the name change could be done through a vendor at the Fairlands.

The residents cheered, the tinies riverdance, then people began to go their seperate ways. Ancient told me quite a lot was raised in total at the Jail and Bail, "We mades like a million L$"

Wildstar would take a number of pictures, which can be seen (here).

"Thank you so much folks for all that amazing stuffs and those donations folks!! you are all amazing!!!"

The Spoonful of Sugar Festival

The "Spoonful of Sugar Festival" is back in Second Life. This is a fundraiser event to raise money for the Doctors Without Borders charity. Based in Switzerland, the group helps the sick and injured in over 70 countries, notably where conflict and natural disaster have struck.

While we do not "earmark" our funds raised for MSF for any specific aspect of what they do, at the Spoonful Of Sugar, we do
like to choose an area of their work for our focus and education. While in Tahiti we are looking more at environmental issues and impacts MSF/Doctors Without Borders faces. Please join us at destinations around our planet - which are not only astoundingly beautiful and wealthy, but at the same time devastatingly vulnerable and poor. Lets all learn and understand this connection between environmental imbalance and the illness, safety and resource insecurity facing so many on our planet.

The event area covers ten sims. Most are full of  shopping areas with items up for sale with all or part of the money going to the charity. This includes at least one limited edition item on sale only at the Festival. There's also the "Get Crabby Hunt." There are also occasional music parties with DJs (the one I saw was in the southernmost sim). There are also auctions and raffles for giftcards,

The scenery was picturesque, with many of the stores set up as island huts. There were also groups of script-controlled islanders dancing and playing music, as if welcoming the attendees. For shoppers, there is a variety of items to get from pets, to furniture, to Halloween goods, to farming game supplies, and more.

SL Renaissance Festival Opens

The Second Life Renaissance Festival is underway. The event, also known as the Ren Fest, started yesterday, September 24. There are numerous things to do there, such as shopping (notably for Medieval and Fantasy clothes, furnishings and gear), attending live and DJ music events, classes, contests, auctions, and competitions and other contests.

Dropping by the landmark area, there was a kiosk display with several outfits, from prices from 250 to 75L There were also some silent auctions done in cooperation with Linden Lab, such as an otherwise free year of Premium Plus or name change. There was in addition a kiosk for a "mega raffle" offering 45,000 Lindens worth of gift cards. I also witnessed a ceremony involving numerous people on horseback.

One of the more notable events, "Joust a Mole or Linden," takes place on Thursday September 29 at 1PM SL time.

The Ren Fest raises money in support of Making Strides, which raises money for the Relay for Life for breast cancer support and research.

At The Hopefest

 *

Since Wednesday June 8, the Hopefest has been taking place. While technically a five day event, the three days from Wednesday to Friday get most of the attention.

In RFL Life, there were live music events such as Tia Rungway's piano performance.

And there were DJs such as Tracer Graves and Nat The Cat. One event I missed was the particle show by Color Alchemist.

Also in the sim were some raffles, and silent auctions.

To the south in RFL Knowledge was the Goblin Fair, with a number of Medieval and Rennisance-themed amusements, alongside some such as paintball.

In RFL Knowledge are more modern-themed attractions at an amusement park.

While not part of the Hopefest, there were other happenings elsewhere at the Relay track, such as a dance performance at the Gorean area.

Today (Friday June 10) from Noon to 3PM is the Linden and Mole Barbecue with Patch Linden. So come by if you have a moment.

Tomorrow of course is the big weekend, the Relay Walk. So don't forget this most intense 24 hours of Second Life as well.

Scenes From The Winter Expo

 *

The big Relay event this month, the Christmas Expo, has been going on all week. On the sim named after the event, music and dance events have been taking place at the ice rink.

Phil Mayo (Phildea Mayo) was among the live singers this week, performing for the crowd.

Elsewhere in the same sim, people could have their picture taken with Santa.

Another kind of popular event has been the breedable auctions.

And there's numerous shops to buy from, mixed in with the scenery.

The Expo goes on to December 14. The high point, the Holiday of Hope Gala, takes place Sunday December 12 from 1 to 5 PM.

Meeroo Auctions

Xymbers Slade, having been doing some research on the popular Meeroos virtual pets, recently took a look at an auction house. Here, he describes his observations of the place. Plus, he interviewed an auctioneer, whom had a few things to say about what makes a Meeroo fetch a high price, and some of the benefits of dealing in the market.
