Gemma To Resume Writing Soon

For those who have been wondering, Gemma took a leave of absence after her hand was injured, taking a break from the break to complete an almost finished article with her other hand. She also spent time at the Second Life Birthday as a greeter, again using her good hand.

Talking to her, she says her hand is better, and she should be good to write something in a few days.

Stay tuned.

Greeting At The SL20B

Gemma Cleanslate has been busy at the Second Life Twentieth Birthday celebrations. She had volunteered to be one of the greeters, and spent much time greeting people, as well as offering help and directions on things such as the hunt and sweepstakes. But she still had some time to check out some events and places.

At The Relay And SL Birthday

After taking a break from writing for several weeks, Gemma Cleanslate is back with another article. After a little time to relax in Yosemite, she took part in the Relay Weekend, walking the track and taking in the sights of the camps and exhibits. Just after it ended, it was time to help out with the Second Life Birthday as a greeter. When she finally had a moment, she wrote about her experiences.

SL9B: Reflections

Would it be the fragmented ”Look for something to do that somewhere on the grid" kind of celebration, or nothing at all, was in my mind when the LL put out the announcement they were leaving the birthday to us. Well, I figured what would be would be and went along as usual in SL, until I heard from Honour McMillan. Would I be willing to help as an exhibitor assistant for a birthday bash? I said yes I would.

At that time I did not know the extent of what was going to become an amazing success from beginning to end. The time passed so quickly it is hard to remember it all. We were all so busy settling builders on their plots. It is a blur. Then calls for streams and names and landing points went on for days. Everyone was so nice .The builders were so cooperative with the rules and thankful for any help. A couple tried to kidnap me, LOL, and it was great compliment. It was an experience. Loved that job!

Next I settled into security mode. Although there were some issues regarding rules of the party most were cleared up easily. Yes, the usual griefers appeared as expected and off they went . This was my first time involved in a SL birthday event. I loved it!!!

The leads of the event are to be congratulated for their support and wisdom:

Senior Lead, Performance Lead and Grumpy Old Man – Doctor Gascoigne
Land and Exhibitor Lead – KT Syakumi
Land Goddess – Diana Renoir
Volunteer Lead and Cruise Director- Budster Bashly
PR and Advertising Lead – Saffia Widdershins
Greeter Lead – Honour McMillan
SL9B Troll- Crap Mariner

The sponsors are to be thanked for their expense in donating 20 sims for the event.
Dream Seekers Estates, KittyCats, Fruit Islands Estates, and NEO Streams, who donated all the streams used in the sims.

All the volunteers did a wonderful job through out it all . At this time we are in withdrawal, which I think will take a few weeks! I hope you got there and I hope you loved it. Take a look at Loki’s video when you want to see it all again. With all the time I sent in the sims I never got to see 300 exhibitors . I know because up to the last day I was discovering new fascinating builds.

See you at SL10B. Plans are already under way!

SL9B Preparations contined

Opening day is coming soon!! ( the 18th of June) As an Exhibit Assistant I have had the privilege of helping the exhibitors get their plots going, setting music for them, chasing prims that flew across the sims and enjoying it all. It has been very busy!!

As I stood trying to do my work after meeting builders on their plot, they were throwing up creations right around my feet! Some were so excited to have their builds placed immediately. It was great fun. One prim became 250 in about 4 minutes! Some creators are still holding theirs in their sandboxes or or pockets til the last moment. But a look at the 20 sims on the map tells the story. Most plots are full.

The spirit of cooperation among the whole staff has been outstanding. The exhibitors for the most part have been so grateful for any assistance we could give them. It is a wonderful experience to be part of it all. I recommend you all set aside lots of time to visit. There are so many plots. 300 besides that, the stages for performers and for DJ parties, and an auditorium for meetings and learning. There is also a pod ride for the eastern and one for the western areas. Taking the ride will be fun as you will hear about some of the surrounding builds as you pass along the roads. You will find it near the entrance.

The birthday cake is a decoration to behold. It occupies the center of the whole 20 sims. Take a look at the map when you come and you will see it!

SL8B Waiting for the Magic

The excitement is electric. Builders who will be creating exhibits for the SL8B are clammering to be admitted to the group and sites. I listened in on a Second Life birthday group IM and could feel the anticipation to start placing builds. As Millay Freschi, one of the builders said, “I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone does with the theme..I love the magic and the inspirational perspective!! what could be better! We could use a little of that as a world.”

Poor people trying to give out the tags ... 300 to go! It will be an exciting week for sure, June 20-26. I will be a greeter for the event. I have attended the event for the last 3 years and am amazed at the level of creativity and fun that shows up. If you have not been there before save a lot of time! It is there for a week for a reason. There are so many sites to visit and interact with and look at with awe. I cannot wait!

Greeters and Guides for Burn2

Time is passing so quickly. The playa is alive with builders working on their wonders. The entertainment planning goes on so that there will be music and fun for all the visitors. Brigit Ranger , the Community Lead for Burn2 has put out a call for Greeters and Guides. She says, “My hope is to find people who are looking for fun, like to meet new people, and who know the meaning of patience and perseverance. “

It is great fun to be a greeter. I have watched as they weave their magic like trapeze artists at the gate to the playa . Their friendliness and help to new arrivals makes for a happy start to your exploration. A volunteer need only dedicate 6-8 hours for that week , October 16 through 25, on the Burn2 playa. You will probably want to spend more time.

You can contact Brigit by sending her a note card or you can e-mail her at Brigitranger@gmail.com . You will receive training to prepare you for the fun.
