Mutant Turkey Monster Prowls Montecito Bay
Gobble-gobble-gobble-gobble-gobble!
Gobble-gobble-gobble-gobble-gobble!
Gobble-gobble-gobble-gobble-gobble!
Thanksgiving has taken a strange and scary turn in the community of Montecito Bay. There have been sightings of a huge mutant beast resembling a four-legged turkey prowling the streets. While Montecito Bay has been the source of wild tales, this one has some pictures as evidence.
The beast shown in the pictures, and eyewitness descriptions, is a quadraped about twice the size of a normal human or anthro. Most of the creature is covered in turkey feathers, including a large plume of them in the back. Only the lower back legs, which resemble that of a feline, have any hairs. On the sides are two wings which are probably too small to small for it to really fly, probably. But it would be able to glide from someplace high to the ground. The head and neck are like those of a turkey, but much larger and stronger. The beak appears sharp and with the presumed size and strength of the creature is likely capable of tearing holes into someone or taking off limbs.
A number of Montecito Bay's streets have dim to no lights. So residents in the city are advised to avoid traveling down these streets alone at night. And should you hear "gobble-gobble-gobble" sounds that don't seem right, RUN! You just might end up some mutant turkey's Thanksgiving dinner.
Gobble-gobble-gobble-gobble-gobble!
Gobble-gobble-gobble-gobble-gobble!
Gobble-gobble-gobble-gobble-gobble!
Stay tuned for further details.

Press Release: "Frankenstein" Comes to Holly Kai Park
Second Life – On Sunday, October 21st at 2pm slt, Fantasy Faire Radio and Seanchai Library will present Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein," specially adapted for radio and live performance in six voices, in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the novel's original publication. The two-hour performance will take place live at this year's iteration of "Haunted Holly Kai" high above the Blake Sea based Art Park, and will benefit Relay for Life. Da5id Abbot, Corwyn Allen, Zander Greene, Shandon Loring, Elrik Merlin, and Caledonia Skytower will come together to present the script adapted by Skytower and Abbot from Shelley's original novel. The performance, running just under two hours, will be live on stream at "Haunted Holly Kai: featuring Frankenstein" and simultaneously broadcast on Fantasy Faire Radio. Residents can teleport to the performance from the Park's Information Center. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Holly%20Kai%20Estates/205/120/22
The novel, "Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus" was written by English author Mary Shelley that tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist who creates a human-like creature in an unorthodox scientific experiment while still a student at University in Ingolstadt. Shelley started writing the story when she was 18, and the first edition of the novel was published anonymously in London on 1 January 1818, when she was 20. Her name first appeared on the second edition, published in France in 1823.
Famously Mary, her lover and future husband Percy Shelley, and Lord Byron decided to have a competition to see who could write the best horror story while staying at Byron's rented home, Villa Diodati, near the shores of Lake Geneva. After thinking for days, Shelley dreamt about a scientist who created life and was horrified by what he had made; her dream later evolved into the novel's story. It has had a considerable influence in literature and popular culture and spawned a complete genre of horror stories, films and plays.
In 1931, Universal Pictures released "Frankenstein: The Man Who Made The Monster" directed by James Whale and starring Boris Karloff as the Creature (now "Monster"). The screenplay was based on Peggy Webling's stage play "Frankenstein" which was loosely based on Shelley's novel. It is here that the Frankenstein as the green-skinned, bolt-headed, mad scientist experiment-gone-wrong took shape, forming the popular culture version that pervaded the 20th century.
"Haunted Holly Kai: featuring Frankenstein" will pay tribute to both the original novel and its film adaptations with an outdoor amphitheater for the novel's presentation and other planned events, and a towering castle featuring a mad scientist lab created by Stranger Nightfire. Residents are encouraged to explore both the castle and the outdoor areas. This year's "Haunted Holly Kai" will open October 21st and remain open through Halloween.

Steelhead Update
Work on the Steelhead Community's home of Steelhead Bay continues. Besides Club Gearz, they now have a new place to dance, their new theater. On Friday April 21, it had it's first event in the form of a "Mad Scientists' Ball," with Fuzzball Ortega playing the music.
Shortly afterwards, Fuzzball gave a brief announcement for the community, saying that Loki Eliot was helping him with building and touching up the streets, "Bear with us as we get that situated." They were also adding street lamps to help light up the place at night. But there was one other issue at hand.
"Something may or may not be living in the bay," Fuzzball stated, "Apparently, folks have been seeing something surface every three minutes or so." He would later post the picture to the left on Facebook, "I think it's some old log floating in the bay......"
So is it "Swamp Gas" as someone suggested. Or does Steelhead have it's own sea monster? Perhaps time will tell. Or perhaps the "old log" will float away to other shores.

King Kong's Skull Island at LEA9
Even if you're just remotely familiar with the classic movies of Hollywood's Golden Age, chances are you've heard of King Kong. Recently, the Newser found out about Skull Island, a build at LEA9 based on the home of the famous movie monster. Gemma Cleanslate went to the island, and there was a lot more to see than just the giant gorilla. It's a big jungle out there with a lot to see, plus there are the activities and events.

A Day in New York City Block (2008)
Our looking back at Second Life Newspaper continues with a look at the New York City block sim. Built by real life Brooklyn resident Cheri Bing, unlike some other better known New York themed sims, this was built a little less to shop in and more for people to rent a virtual home in at one of the apartments. Dropping in one day in April 2008, Bixyl Shuftan caught a bit of the chaos that went on with the locals that could only be considered a conbination of Second Life wackiness and New York attitude.

A Look at Horror-Themed Sims
Reporter Theonlyjohnny Resident is back in action. Interested in what the horror sims in Second Life had to offer, he decided to check them out for himself. As what one might expect, not every single place looked as advertised. But just how many made the grade and which were the best at delivering their worst?

Siden Survival/Horror Sim
Theonlyjohnny came across a horror-themed sim in his travels: Siden. Here, one takes on various script-controlled frightful enemies. But there's more than just racking up a body count. One also has to watch one's condition, and the detail in the buildings and terrain is great.

"Walpurgisnacht" and "Halloween in May"
Steelhead has a number of German-born residents, such as a number of the mad scientists, the Jagers, and of course Baron Wulfenbach. So came this notice:The Consulate is going to host the Friday Night Dance for Walpurgisnacht that celebrates the "coming of spring and the return of the tourists which is why we pretend to be demons to protect ourselves.'
Starting at 7:00 PM, two hours of tunes from Da Fuzz, with Zanya taking over at 9:00 PM
Dropping in, there was quite a number dropping about. Unfortunetly, most everyone remained grey to me for quite some time. Fortunately Garnet Psaltery was willing to share her pictures with me (above).
There was the usual amount of Steelhead wisecracks, including a number of "monstrous puns."
More pictures of Steelhead's Walpurgisnacht can be found in Garnet's Flickr (Click Here). She also has sets of other Walpurgisnacht festivals at Europa and Caledon.
The following night in the Sunweaver Estates, at Club Cutlass the spooky fun continued with Jenni Greenfield holding a "Halloween in May" party. There was nothing really about European festivals. It was six months away from Halloween, and a good excuse to bring out the ghosts and goblins. Jenni herself DJed for the event.
The place was covered with a thick fog, leading to jokes that if someone was gray from lag others were unlikely to notice. There were a number of witches there, including a chakat whom was dancing unusually smooth for a taur avatar. A mermaid swung on one of the dance poles. And a vampire bat hovered around for a while until coming down to dance with one dark lioness.
No one was hexed, haunted, bit on the neck, or otherwise inconvenienced that night.

"Halloween in July at Zero-G"
Tuesday Night, July 31st at 6PM, was "Halloween in July" at Club Zero Gravity. Almost two dozen people showed up in our creature feature, as skeletons, zombies, vampires, witches, and more. Shockwave Yareach "boned up" on spooky music before DJing for the event.
Club owner Nydia Tugsten was there, this time looking more scary than sexy, blood dripping from her muzzle, like some griefer had messed with his last sim.
The contest for best costume was won by Sachi Mint. our panda pumpkin girl.It was a night of frightful fun for Club Zero Gravity. Events are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8PM SL time, Purrfection Estates (229, 11, 3365)
