As of the writing of this article, the website is still not up.

Compared to the previous five SLB events, the SL15B has had some delays (SL9B was done later in the year as well due to Linden Lab announcing it was no longer organizing the events). Of the map of the SL15B sims, several land areas are yet to be online. The theme of the event has yet to be announced. Presumably it will be announced today. as exhibitors have been asked to keep builds within the theme.

Stay tuned for further developments.

SL15B Update: Sim Group Incomplete, Expect Applications "In a Few Weeks"

A couple days ago, the Newser reported that the SL15B sims were fewer in number and in an unusual shape compared to recent SL Birthday celebrations. In group chat in the SLB group, Doctor Gascoigne stated not all of the sims for the event were in the group, "There are some of them being worked on at an undisclosed location."

Doc was also asked when applications for exhibitors, performers, and volunteers would be out. He answered, "Applications will be in a few weeks. ... We will make an announcement here and then applications will be on our web site."

So announcements, and presumably the theme of "The Birthday," will be announced a little later compared to most previous SLB events, though not as late as SLB9 when Linden Lab announced it would no longer be organizing them and volunteers banded together to get it going.

Stay tuned for more details.

SL14B Logo Revealed

On the night of February 22, Doc Gascoigne announced the theme of the SL14B, the Second Life Fourteenth Birthday, in chat: Carnivalesque. A few days ago on the Second Life blog, it became official.

If this is a birthday, then we’re going to have a festival worthy of Second Life®! Strike up the band, toss on your glad rags, and join us at the SL®14B Community Celebration as we hit the carnival.
While much of the interest around virtual reality has shifted to singular experiences, largely fueled by the pursuit of headset-focused content, we want to remind you of the joy of hundreds of people from all over coming together in one place in celebration, and form a carnival-like atmosphere that you simply cannot achieve alone. Let’s challenge all the perceptions, break all the molds, and show everyone that we know how to celebrate.

But what was truly revealed was the logo for the event, designed by Harper Beresford.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Second Life Birthday.

SL12B: A Message From Doc

Doc Gascoigne, the co-leader of the SL12B staff, had one final message for the people behind the Second Life Twelfth Birthday.

Thank you SL12B Community

We would like to thank everyone who contributed, volunteered and exhibited. All the DJs and Performers and the builders. It took an army of volunteers to bring this year’s birthday celebration together.

If you enjoyed this year’s event and want to be a part next year, keep an eye on this blog and stay in the SLB Community Group for notification of next year’s festivities.

It is always my pleasure to work with all of you.

The message came with the picture above, appropriately titled, "C'ya next time."

SL11B: "Thank You SL11B Community"

The following was posted on the SL11B blog By Doc Gascoigne:

We would like to thank everyone who  exhibited,  performed, visited or volunteered for this year’s SLB Community Celebration. This year we provided a smaller,  more intimate event.
We hoped that 11 sims for 11 years was not only symbolic, but provided an opportunity for us to slim down the size aspect and amp up the quality.
We  would like to thank the SL Community for supporting this event every year.  Without you whether it be in the form of volunteers, entertainment, art or visitors;  our birthday event would not be as collectively successful as it has been this year.
Every year we use this space to connect with you as you get ready to go back to your regularly scheduled SL.  We remind you to mark your calendars for next April.  This is when we start the process of preparing a city that rises from nothing,  a schedule of great entertainment,  an army of volunteers and an array of exhibits built by you.
If you enjoyed the event and want to be a part next year, please join our new group SLB Community Celebration (appears in the profiles of Doc Gascoigne or Diana Renoir)
or SLB Community Group for notification of next year’s festivities.
It was and always has been an honor and my pleasure to once again work with all of you.
Cya next time,
Doc
On another note, the exhibits will remain up until Saturday July 5th. And so will the hunt for the items hidden in them.

On a third note, the sixteenth of Saffia Widdershins' SL11B videos was filmed next to the SL Newser office exhibit. Guess the "Madman" figured out where his donuts went.

SL10B: Doc Gascoigne, "Thank you SL10B Community"

I personally would like to thank everyone who volunteered to work for the Second Life 10th Birthday Community Celebration. All your collective effort and volunteer spirit helped us pull off this grand event. I also would like to thank the SL Community for supporting this event. Without you whether it be in the form of volunteers or visitors, our birthday event would not be as successful as it has been this year.

This year’s gathering was a look back for some and look forward for others. For me personally, it reminded me of the SL I came from where we “paid it forward” by helping each other with our knowledge, experience and throwing really great parties. If I had not said it a dozen times I will say it again; Community is not just a word it is an entity; a living, breathing entity. An interacting population of various kinds of individuals in a common location. Our common location is Second Life.

If you enjoyed the event and want to be a part next year, keep an eye on this blog and stay in the SLB Community Group for notification of next year’s festivities.

It was and always has been an honor and my pleasure to once again work with all of you.

Cya next time,

Doc

SL10B: Interview With Doc Gascoigne

The Second Life Tenth Birthday celebrations are under way. And behind the big event is a group of volunteers. Helping to lead then is Doc Gascoigne, simply known as "Doc" to the team. DrFran Babcock recently had a chance to interview him, asking about the SL10B, and more.

SL10Birthday Preparations Under Way

Today I got my first peek at the empty SL10Birthday community celebration  sims. I went over to attend a training session for Exhibitor Assistant. Diana Renoir and Doc Gascoigne presented the session and reminded us of our duties. This is a job I did last year at the SL9B and loved it. When the builders arrive on the sim at their plot, before they can build, the EA’s need to give them their tools and help them get settled with all their building rights: music, media. name of the plot, landing points, and what ever else they require.

It is a very exciting and busy time. Then we get to watch the empty sims fill up with marvelous creative exhibits. And so, at this time  the notifications to the builders (and other volunteer applicants) are going out. There are so many it will take some days for all notices to arrive so watch your e-mail if you are waiting.  The sims will open to builders on this Sunday, May 26. The sim coordinators and Exhibitor Assistants will be waiting for them. Let the party preparation begin!!

I will keep you updated on the progress. Remember it opens on June 16 and will be open until June 29, with stage performances ending June 23. I promise you, no matter how many times you visit you will never see everything there is to see! Though I will start work this Sunday I know from last years I will never see it all! Keep an eye on the Blog! – There will be regular updates and information posted there!

Editor's Note: Applications for plots at the SL10B closed on Tuesday May 21st. Acceptance notices for exhibitors should start "coming in the next few days and will continue all week.
