"Le Cirque de Nuit" Lights up Idle Rogue for 2019 Production

Idle Rogue, Second Life.  Magic sparkles across the skies above Idle Rogue as the beloved production, Le Cirque de Nuit awakens for 2019.

Basing their work on Erin Morgenstern’s novel, "The Night Circus", dance entertainers of Idle Rogue Productions lead enchanted audiences back into a steampunk circus that is refurbished, and presented, as Idle Rogue's flagship production each year.

The 2019 Production is directed by Blaze DeVivre with the assistance of Sho Kyong.Morgenstern’s story, set in the 19th century and traversing Europe and the US, is an intrigue that sees a natural-born magician pitted in ruthless competition against a highly trained illusionist. The arena for their battle is a traveling circus, and each bout adds more dazzling illusion to the wildly popular, but always enigmatic, Night Circus.

Using the novel’s setting as a background to their own stories, Idle Rogue’s production features dance acts with steampunk, illusion and circus themes, each built, as is the Idle Rogue tradition, by the dancer performing it.  While some acts are carried forward from the previous year, they are balanced with news acts in a creative blend that makes every year's production unique.

True to the novel, the Circus acts, props and costumes are created in black and white. Dance acts are interspersed with viewings of art installations constructed in blazing colour and we are delighted to announce that this year’s guests include renowned artists, Bryn Oh and Cica Ghost.

Idle Rogue is once again joined by special guests Seanchai Library, who will provide opening entertainment with a selected reading from "The Night Circus" by Caledonia Skytower, whose story-telling skills are unmatched in Second Life, adding a literary lustre our audiences thoroughly enjoyed in 2018.

Seats for this popular production fill up fast. While there is no admission for the performances, seats must be booked in advance. Saturday Melody will be available online 24/7, beginning April 1st until all six performances are booked.  Please contact her to reserve seat(s) and to be added to the access list to the performance area for your booked time and date. 

Timestamps of messages will determine the order in which bookings are processed.

Audiences are reminded that dance entertainment performances rely heavily on the resources of the sim. Those attending shows can assist the show by reducing their script useage - removing non-essential HUDS, facelights and particles, and by checking for highly scripted hair and jewelry. This consideration is very much appreciated!

Press Release: "Cirque de Nuit" Performs This Weekend

After months of careful preparation, Idle Rogue's Le Cirque de Nuit opens and runs again on Friday April 3 at 7pm, Saturday April 4 at 2pm and 7p,m Sunday April 5 at 7pm.

The show is tour-de-force virtual entertainment. Loosely referencing Erin Morgenstern's novel "The Night Circus", builder Gloriana Maertens has created a magical circus environment in the sky above Idle Rogue. From the moment you arrive, you feel the shimmering in the air, and the enchantment begins.

As you take your seat, we will assume control of your camera and embark together on a sparkling journey, of shadows and light, sounds and visions, astonishment and delight.

A collaborative experience, Le Cirque de Nuit has been crafted by some of the best performers and builders in SL at the height of their careers. It's a black and white steam-punk extravaganza that features clever concepts woven together by an extremely professional team. Produced by Chryblnd Scribe, with a stage scripted and managed by Arrehn Oberlander, you will witness thrilling performances by dancers who have honed their skills in the great troupes of our time.

Scenes from "Le Cirque de Nuit"

Yesterday I saw a performance by the "Guerrilla Burlesque" group and  Idle Rogue Productions, "Le Cirque de Nuit." Describing itself as "a black-and-white steampunk dance circus," the show featured a number of skilled builders, scripters, and dancers such as Cellandra Zon, Shadow Tarber, BabyPea von Phoenix, and Setsuna Hirano. Gloriana Maertens was the main builder of the set, and the effort managed by Arrehn Oberlander.

The show promised, "a dance entertainment spectacular unlike anything you have seen before in Second Life." And in my opinion, they delivered.

There was some partial nudity, so the show isn't for children. But it was a first class and unique performance. A fine example of what can be done with Second Life as a platform for entertainment shows.

The show may make "a limited run of touring and home performances throughout 2014." If they do, it's worth stopping by to see.

It should be interesting to see what Guerrilla Burlesque comes up with next.

Idle Rogue Productions Presents  : Le Cirque de Nuit

Le Cirque de Nuit is a dance entertainment spectacular unlike anything you have seen before in Second Life. A collaboration between some of SLs best-known dancers, builders, scripters and communicators, Le Cirque de Nuit is a black-and-white steampunk dance circus which loosely references Erin Morgenstern's novel "The Night Circus".

The show is a tightly-produced set of 13 circus-based acts interleaved with "interstitial" art installations, which we use to distract you while we change sets. The soundtrack is steampunk, and the effects are dazzling, as we attempt to lure you into a completely immersive environment. We want to take you on a journey into a lavish hour of entertainment!

Produced by chryblnd Scribe of Idle Rogue Productions, Le Cirque de Nuit features performances by some of SL's best-loved dance stars, including Cellandra Zon, Shadow Tarber, BabyPea von Phoenix, and Setsuna Hirano. The Cirque build, by Gloriana Maertens, is managed by Arrehn Oberlander of Metaharpers and Firestorm fame.

The show will run at 4pm and 7pm on April 6th, on Idle Rogue, with the possibility of a limited run of touring and home performances throughout 2014. SL media are invited to a special preview session on Wednesday April 2 at 4pm or 7pm, which will feature a mini-performance and a Q&A session with some of the cast and crew.
