SL Videos: SL Newser Exhibits, SL9B and SL10B (Repeats)

With this being our anniversary weekend, and the SL12B not far away, we're repeating this videos of two of our exhibits for earlier Second Life Birthday events. For the office tower we had for the SL10B, one can see the portraits on the ground floor, and Gemma Cleanslate and Qwark Allen are looking out from the top floor of the office tower there.



Here's Qwark's build for our first exhibit, the office we had for the SL8B, during which an impromptu "office meeting" was held. Gemma didn't think too much of it as Qwark's recording made her look like her mouth was wide open, "I look like I'm yelling at the boss!" No she wasn't as I was there.

This year, Qwark Allen is on hiatus, and we're doing something a bit different from the office theme we've had in the past. So what is it? You'll see.

Party Time at Qwark and Gemma's

On June 21 at Noon SL time, Gemma Cleanslate and Qwark Allen threw a beach party at their house. They called it the last of the SL Newser celebration parties, though as it took place a week later, to me it was more like a "between the birthdays" bash, with the SL11B just a couple days later.

Those dropping by included Any1 Gynoid, the former CNN iReporter, and Chakat Northspring of Team Firestorm. The latter brought out her pet firekitty on her back after seeing Qwark's playing in the sand.

Besides dancing, one could pick up a drink at the bar, or a snack.

Gemma & Qwark's SL Newser Beach Party

Second Life Newser's anniversary was a couple weeks ago, though there was chance that some of our reporters couldn't make the events. So we arranged a back-up date and location at Gemma Cleanslate and Qwark Allen's beach home at Thorstar. Well, we're still in the mood to celebrate. So besides at least two music events planned for our office exhibit at the SL11B, we're still going to hold the party at Thorstar beach. Maybe we can call it a "Between the Birthdays" party.

The event is at Noon SL time, Thorstar (88, 49, 24). Qwark Allen will be DJing the music.

SL11B Update

It's just a few days until the celebrations begin at the Second Life Eleventh Birthday (SL11B) grounds. We have until Wednesday at Noon to get our builds done before they're closed for the final inspection. Here's a view of the sims and their exhibits and stages.

Qwark Allen has done a fantastic job on the SL Newser's own exhibit, located in the southwest corner of SL11B Fascinate. The sim is on the bottom, center-west of the map. The hat on top appears as a white circle.

We've got desks for each of our reporters, as well as pictures for each writer behind them, and clicking on each leads to an article of ours. And we have a few cartoons up. So come by and see a little about what we are.

The SL11B opens on Sunday June 22, at 12 Noon SL time.

The Newser Beach Party

On Saturday, August 17 at 12PM SL time, the Staff of Second Life Newser and some of their friends stopped by the beach near Gemma Cleanslate's place at Skye Condos in  Thorstar.

The fun went on for over two hours. Both Qwark Allen and Grease Coakes took turns DJing for the event. Qwark had his "Psytrance," while Grease had pop music tunes.

Besides the music, there was food available. There was cake, and a plateful of extra-large hamburgers.

A lot of fun was had by all.

SL10B: Ego-Tripping with DrFran

Some individuals leave their mark in a few places. DrFran Babcock has certainly been one. Not just for her work at the Newser, but also with her time at the Giant Snail Races. Both of their exhibits at the SL10B mention her, along with her own. Plus one can find her likeness at a fourth, of which she got a chance to chat with the owner. We're all entitled to a little self-promotion, so here's some from our intrepid reporter.

Halloween Fun All Over Second Life

It's been a Halloween full of events on the Grid, and Grease Coakes was able to get out and about to a few scary happenings. In his article, he describes his time at Club Zero Gravity, ZZ Studios and the Corner of Revolving Time, in which he encountered his share of thrills and chills.

Sunday Oct 28 at Noon SL time was SL Newser's Gemma Cleanslate and Qwark Allen's 5th Anniversary party. Normally the DJ at his events, Solar Hydro played the music for this event. Dozens came by in the course of the event that lasted over three hours. Another Burn2 ranger thought it was bigger than anything going on with the festival that day.

The Corner of Revolving Time Celebrates

Gemma Cleanslate reports on one of her favorite hangouts, the Corner of Revolving Time. The place has long been noted for it's fishing contests and special freebies every holiday. More recently, the prizes for fishing have gotten bigger, and a weekly raffle is offering big prizes. The place is certainly worth a look.

SL Youtube: SL Newser Office "Meeting" at the SL9B

Filmed by Qwark Allen Sunday June 24 sometime in the afternoon. Qwark, his partner Gemma Cleanslate, and I have an office get-together with a few friends of ours. Most of us loved it, but Gemma had mixed feelings, "Hey! My mouth's open! I look like I'm yelling at the boss!"

No she wasn't, and I was there as her witness. But it's still a great souvenir for us from the SL9B

The SL Newser at SL9B Party

On Friday, June 22nd, SL Newser held a party at it's exhibit at the Second Life Ninth Birthday area, in the Kyuu sim. The party was held on a platform way above the exhibit. People began showing up at 1 in the afternoon, and it went on from there.

DJ Qwark spun the tunes, mostly 70s & 80s pop.

Gemma Cleanslate (green ball over head) was able to take a break from greeter duties. Bejita, a regular to Qwark's parties, had on some colorful armor.

Not usually one for parties, Xymbers showed up ... as a female werewolf in a dress and tiara.


Other guests included blogger Treminari Huet, DJ Kryxia and Hostess Miyuki from Club Zero Gravity, and a number of other friends. It could get a bit laggy, as shown by the grey avatars in this picture.

The party went on for almost two hours until a sim restart brought it to an end a few minutes early. Despite that and the lag, a good time was held by all.

Come to Second Life Newser in SL9B for a Party

Today, Second Life Newser is having a party at it's SL9B location. The party will be on a platform over the office exhibit, and is open to all. DJ Qwark will provide the tunes.

The party will be at 1PM SL time at DreamSeeker SL9B Kyuu (80, 72, 152)

And here's our office exhibit at the Second Life Birthday Event, courtesy of Qwark Allen. It's just about ready. Nearby are attractions such as the "First Church of Rosedale" waterslide, DrFran Babcock & Ariel Loonie's city park plot, and Mikati Slade's cake can be seen in the background.

June 18 is the big day, only three days left. Builders have even less, just two days before the sims are closed and it's time to "put the hammers down" on June 17th. The day is also "Press Day," in which the media gets a look at the place, at least the media which isn't already here.

Corner of Revolving Time's Skyclub Grand ReOpening Party

This Easter Sunday, the Corner of Revolving Time's Skyclub had it's grand reopening party, with Qwark Allen as the DJ. Besides Gemma Cleanslate and myself, guests included Eymrich Lane who appeared as a "killer penguin," and blogger Daniel Voyager, who was a tiny chocolate bunny, "Don't eat me!"

The Corner of Revolving Time, owned by Vickijo Rivera, had recently relocated to the Ophelia sim, which is the main sim of the new Corner Estates. Besides a shopping area, it also boasts a fishing area and an amusement park. Talking with one of the staff, the Corner of Revolving Time will soon be involved in a hunt, and a Relay for Life event as well.
