Recklass Driving on the Relay Track

Not the actual car: a dramatization
At one point last night while the camps of the Relay Track were being worked on, there was a bit of panic in the Relay for Life Track builder chat, Fuzzball Ortega saying, "I don't know who's driving that vehicle. But......EVERYONE OFF THE TRACK!!!!" He added a few seconds later, "And no....it's not me." Athenaeum Archivist told the group, "They crashed into our stack of books and drove off." Madonna Daehlie commented, "That's even more dangerous than the lunatic flying around the track in a Wright Flyer this week." Fuzzball commented further, "I saw some car driving all over the track, and I said to myself, "Damn, I thought Fuzz wasn't rezzing any vehicles" and then I realized, 'I'm Fuzz'." KumaguroBunnyBear Resident commented, "I've known people to land cars in trees and on roofs."

Eclair Martinek admitted being the guilty driver, "Dianna kept talking to me while I was driving. I hope I didn't destroy any campsites." But the car was never found, she later saying she drove it into a body of water to get rid of the evidence. Trader Whiplash had to leave when this incident was still fresh, "I leave you all to drive each other nuts until I return. Don't burn down the sims."

No doubt there will continue to be examples of mayhem and hilarity at the Relay Track as time ticks on to the Relay Weekend this Saturday and Sunday.

Biller Longfall and the Jericho Hill Racing Association

Auto racing in real life is a sport almost as old as the gasoline-powered engine, and draws huge crowds in many events. So it's no surprise once can find it in Second Life. One of the Relay events this season was the Buddy Forsythe 100. The winner, Biller Longfall, later offered to talk to the Newser about his group of racers, the Jericho Hill Racing Association.

Scenes From Team Sunbeamer's Road Rally

Last weekend on Saturday June 27, Team Sunbeamer, the Relay for Life team of the Sunweaver and Angels communities, held their second annual Road Rally in the Pacific Waters sim. The event took place over several hours much of the day, involving quite a bit of car and motorcycle racing, as well as showing off some wheels. The one with the winning lap took home a prize. But more importantly, this was the event that got the Relay team into Gold level.

Car Show at ZZ Studios

Last week on Feb 2, the adult media company ZZ Studios hosted a car show on it's sim. There were a number of entries, from dung buggies, to replicas of famous cars such as "Ecto 1" from "Ghostbusters, tanks, muscle cars, classic cars, motorcycles, and more. Brandi Streusel, who runs a motorcycle custom painting business from Angel Estates, entered one of her bikes. Company owner Cindy "Zig Zag" Babi was also seen at the event.

Many of the cars were quite detailed. Among them was a police car marked with the company logo (a cop's car with a porn studio's sign?), and there was quite a bit of effort to get the interior realistic, with it's dashboard, steering wheel, radio and "laptop" display, etc.

Between the cars and the avatars, there were over two dozen people at the event, the place could get pretty laggy. Yours truly crashed a number of times while covering the event.

Syzygy International Car Show

The Syzygy International Car show is going on now at Syzygy Eos (128, 158, 1501). Syzygy resident B. W. Jinxing is curator of the show, which features over 25 vehicles. The show is fun and interactive. You can open the doors, kick the tires (gently), and sit in many of the cars. You will also find food and a space for you to rez a vehicle and play bumper cars.

The car show is set in a modern, two-story showroom. There are a wide variety of sports cars, police cars, a fire truck, semi’s, and fantasy cars. There are even some motorcycles and cars for tinies.

Many of the vehicles are sleek sports cars with realistic handling qualities. You can view models made by Prefabrica, Lusch, EMH, and GEMC. Some of my favorites are the ones produced by Haru Motors. Their cars on display include a La Re Blue, a Fi 50 Pink, and a Po 18 Sp Red

Jinxing owns many of the vehicles, but others have been loaned to the exhibit by his friends Samantha Glume, Erin Fensen, Motoko Henusaki, and Pipsqueak Fiddlesticks. Ms. Fiddlesticks, who owns Cake!, loaned her fantasy cupcake motorcycle and pink cupcake jeep. Residents with a sweet tooth will love these vehicles. Nearby is a 60's flower-power van with fun pose balls.

The work horses of SL are displayed here, too. There is an Astaro DC 6000 semi and an Astaro Westline logging truck. Police cars, a fire truck, and even a 7 passenger city bus, the STML-107 by GEMC, are shown. The lights blink and the wipers wipe on this big guy.

After you’ve checked out the show, go outside for some delicious Japanese food at the Yatai food vendor, which Motoko Henusaki loaned to the show. The Sake and noodles are great!

The International Car Show is the latest in the series of temporary community builds that the residents of Syzygy have been creating this year. It will remain open for a few more weeks.

SL Speed Limit 450 MPH!

Drag Racing Rocks Second Life With Blinding Speeds! Only the rules limit speeds to 450 MPH, Second Life (SL) drag racers are burning rubber and making tracks! Yes they CAN get out of Denver baby! Woooooooosh!

SL hockey legend, Antonia Foggarty, does SL wrestling and SL drag racing. She invited me to her motorsports factory to view her newest creations, a pair of steps-on trucks with Hemi-modified engines (Picture 1). Sweet!

In Picture 2, Antonia models her pro-sports driver outfit in front of a cherry Plymouth dragster titled Sox and Martin. She explained that it's quite unusual to put Ford parts in a GM car! Oh really!

At Antonia's invitation, I headed out to the drag strip to catch some car thrills. Everyone was just wonderful, excited that I was writing this story! Dragstrip announcer MB Robonaught even made an official proclamation to the audience, announcing my iReporter presence! Hurray!

Racer Rocky Belavidorico explains, "SL Drag racing is a great stay at home hobby .. modifying the cars... the competition is excellent and there are many great racers."

Picture 3 is a burn out, sending up plumes of smoke as drivers heat up their tires to stick to the road. At the pre-start countdown, we saw a very convincing deterrent to jumping the gun! Then it's GO TIME! Pedal to the metal baby! In a heartbeat POOF, the cars are gone! But they come back right quick, because each race is best 2 out of 3 heats.

How they reach 450 MPH in under 250 meters boggles the mind! Real world dragsters reach up to 350 MPH in 1000 meter races. That means SL dragsters accelerate at least 4X as fast!

Just before driving out on the track SeVeN VanDouser told me, "To me it's one of the most interactive drag racing simulations... having done it in real life and now only in the SL world, it keeps the dream alive." Awesome!

One thing's for sure... Second Life AIN'T no DRAG! ;-)

The amazing Antonia Foggarty appears in my hockey report: Click Here to read.
