SL18B Starts Today

After a few months of planning and preparation, the Second Life Eighteenth Birthday is finally ready to begin.  There will be 23 sims with much to see and much to do. There will be numerous music events, both DJs and live performers. There will be at least one "Meet the Lindens" event, on Monday June 21. In some separate sims there's the "Shop and Hop" event. It is believed there will be one reveal of new Linden Homes. And of course there's all those resident exhibits.

Among the exhibits is that of the Second Life Newser. Build by Silvia Ametza (with help from Kimble (kimblecoles) ), the build reflects the theme "hidden worlds" with a look at the Earth's core (and a poke at the flat-Earthers). The build is in Pizzazz (187/171/23).

The sims are scheduled to open at 9AM SL time. At 11 AM is the Opening Ceremony at the Main Stage.

SL16B Opens Today

After months of anticipation and weeks of preparing, the Second Life Sixteenth Birthday celebrations start today. Beginning at 10AM today, the grounds of the SL16B will be open to the public. The official welcome areas are at SL16B Pizzazz (129/244/23) amd at SL16B Impressive (127/7/23), But one can drop in anywhere in the sims

Many of the exhibits are a fun look at the 1950s, the era Linden Lab takes a nod at with the "Sweet Sixteen" theme.

But the 50s weren't all fun and games. "The Forgotten War" exhibit by Prokofy Neva and Henry Hutchence looks at the Korean War, in which over thirty thousand Americans met their end, at SL16B Sparkle (175/112/23).

And among the exhibits there are those by the Second Life Newser. Once again, Silvia Ametza has volunteered her time and talent, and came up with this scale build of the United Nations Headquarters building in New York City. Completed in 1952, it's been the meeting place of the organization that makes up most every nation. Considering Second Life's international userbase, it's a fitting exhibit.

To keep up with the goings-on, there is a Calendar of Events.

Have a happy Second Life Birthday.

SL14B Opens, Masquerade Party Today

June 18 was the opening day of the Second Life Fourteenth Birthday, or SL14B, celebrations. And as the clock hit Noon, the sims were open to all and people poured in. Within minutes, there were hundreds around the SL14B grounds.

We'll have more on the SLB later as it has been a busy day, and we need to rest before we can write more. But we can tell you about one Linden-organized event today: The Masquerade Ball. The Lab advertised it as, "where mystique and intrigue are sure to reign supreme! There is also a L$5000 prize for the best at the ball ." The event will take place at the Cake Stage, "stay tuned for details once those locations go live!" The Lindens also promise "a special commemorative avatar and bonus gift from the Lab."

The event at SL14B Fascinate (202/247/22/) is from 11AM to 1PM.

Second Life Fourteenth Birthday Begins Today!

After months of preparing, planning, and building, the SL14B, the Second Life Fourteenth Birthday finally opens today. The builds are all up, the exhibits have had their last minute adjustments.

The official entrance is at SL14B Impressive (96/122/80), at Dragon Mountain. As the name implies, "Here be dragons." But don't worry, they're used to humans and their antics are more for showing off. There's even a couple you can ride.

There are a couple places here one can find some teleports to certain spots around the SL14B grounds.

There are many, many exhibits available, and we'll get to them later. For now, here is our own. Silvia Ametza's exhibit this year is a futuristic-looking pyramid with a combination of an amusement park water ride, and a solar system model with a Kulper Belt ring. The exhibit is at SL14B Electrify (39/104/22).

See you at "The Birthday."
