Today marks the last day of the Cyber Fair. This shopping event offers plenty of items to wear for those wanting a futuristic look, from headgear to outfits, to bionic limbs, various other accessories, and more.
It's that time again... The virtual world is about to light up CYBER FAIR • SEPTEMBER ROUND ≼ is coming in HOT! From futuristic fashion to cutting-edge creations, this is where innovation meets style in the metaverse.
At SLB Impressive at the SL20B grounds is one tall and interesting building worth checking out: The Tapestry of Time and Gift Area building. The past few SL Birthday events have had a Tapestry in Time building, a huge circular structure of which the inner wall was divided into sections, describing each year in detail with a gift area in one place in the interior. But this year was a little different. To reflect the theme "Our Fantastic Future," the new building was a shiny, futuristic looking one.
Rather than walking around the wall to see the info and pictures of each year, one would teleport to various spots with them this time. They start at 2003, the year of Second Life's official opening, and end this year in 2023. As before, there is a gift area with numerous freebies. It is on the ground floor where people arrive at the building via teleporting.
Unless there's some last minute change, the final day the Second Life Birthday sims will be open is tomorrow, Tuesday July 11, so hurry up and head over.
Taken at Virtual Ability. One thing many futuristic movies have in common is the flying car, which while there have been numerous prototypes not one has made it to production. Fortunately in Second Life, they're not so hard to get.
Some sad news for fans of sci-fi themed sims. According to New World Notes, the "Hangars Liquides" sims will be closing at the end of the month.
The area, now consisting of five sims of tall buildings high in the sky
with a gritty, run-down theme, what owner and creator Djehan Kidd called "Cyberpunk City, Technopunk, Dystopian Noir," has been in Second Life since 2007. In
2014, it was featured in a video in The Guardian. But unfortunately, a change in the Terms of Service mean that as a nonprofit, the sim can't rent spaces to help pay for it's upkeep. “As a cultural nonprofit organization,”
Djehan explained to Hamlet Au, “Second Life has become unsustainable for me. Several
months ago, I was told that the new Terms of Service for nonprofits did
not permit us to offer rentals anymore; as a result, the city couldn't
pay for itself any more.”
According to Hamlet, Djehan has been in contact with Linden Lab, and there is talk about making Hangars Liquides an exception to their new rules. But as of now, there's nothing agreed upon. Unless something changes, the city will close at the end of the month.
The Newser has a new writer: Ozymandius (0zymandi). In his first article, he looks at Insilico, a futuristic roleplay area with a history that stretches back several years. Taking a look with the help of a guide, he found quite a lot, the sim needing multiple tiers of land to hold it all.
Are you a fan of the movie "Blade Runner?" Even if not, you're likely to find NekoZone Central an interesting place. This futuristic urban area has flying cars going about and a number of places to explore, some fancy, some run down. You might want to bring an umbrella as it might be raining.
Our reporter Grey Lupindo goes exploring again, this time in a sim called Syncretia. Join her as she surveys this strange land, a bit difficult to classify, but with it's airplanes and unusual features a lot of fun.
