Cassie Fairelander Has Passed Away

Oldesoul has given us the sad honor to communicate news that we would have never wanted to share.

It is with infinite sadness that we have to announce the sudden passing of Cassie Fairelander (Eldemar), Olde’s lifetime companion both in real life and second life, on January 31st 2026.

We all know of her infinite talent and creativity, as well as kindness and devotion to charitable causes.

But for many, Cassie was a friend, a gentle soul with whom it was nice to chat and spend time.

Her passing creates an abyss in many lives, and she will be missed deeply.

Oldesoul has asked that all condolences and inquiries be directed to either Liz Wilner or Wildstar Beaumont at this time, and until the private RL funeral for Cassie has occurred.

Our love to Oldesoul.

Information on how to honor Cassie will be shared in the next few days

Announcement: Crim Mip Has Passed, Memorial TBA

Crim Mip, known in the real world as Karl Meyer, was a person whose ripples extended to many ponds. From the Memphis Furmeet, the MLP community (Trotsdale, Nisa, Ibex Empire, etc), the spiritual and Pagan community (Arashiryuu Yashiro, Practicing Magic for a time, and others), the SL boating and aeronautics communities… and others I probably don’t know of as he was very active.

I first met him in Nisa while exploring, seeking my home in the Second Life’s MLP community. There I met many others in a heavily mythologically influenced sim. The Nisean sim grouping, with Crim Mip as one of the several co-owners, grew to a landmass of Nisa, Thessalia, Exmoor, The Ibex Empire (aka Ibexia), Los Qwhilla, Qwhildrasil, and many other locations of the rp world. For a time this landmass resided north of – and joined to – Trotsdale. Later, Trotsdale eventually moved to join Neighberry’s landmass, before Nisa finally became Dreaming Twilight and moved instead to reside in a plot in Ontario due to funding.

Crim is/was the second of the strongest pillars of the Dreaming Twilight. Now another of the trees of the sacred grove has lost its leaves, reminding us of how tightly Life and Death are interwoven.

Crim leaves behind a loving girlfriend, Karla Voilpa, the remaining members of the Dreaming Twilight and Arashiryuu Yashiro groups, his real life friends and relatives… and countless members of the many communities he was part of.

He will be missed. He is loved. He is gone… Yet he now blows in the wind, creeps in the vines, falls from the sky in raindrops, dances in the tides of the sea, and warms us in our hearths.

Our thoughts are with all his loved ones. The Dreaming Twilight will continue. The memories will be maintained.

Please contact Amehana Arashi (Amehana Ishtari), Oscelot Halaan, and KariaKae Karu for more info.

You can also join the Dreaming Twilight [ secondlife:///app/group/c20ee681-8a58-6d0b-4f84-03c7aeece461/about ] and Arashiryuu Yashiro [ secondlife:///app/group/b6fef2dc-b13f-6da5-3561-7b3bc92efd07/about ] groups to be notified of any upcoming planned events and sporadic gatherings.

There will be an in-world memorial at the Dreaming Twilight plot

Date: To Be Announced

Time: To Be Announced

Kara Foxdale, SL Tarot Reader, Has Died

The Newser recently learned that SL resident, Kara Foxdale, has passed away. Grease Coakes delivered the news in a Discord chatroom, "Sadly I just learned that the real life Kara behind the SL account Kara Foxdale passed away recently." He described her as being of poor health.

When he was writing for the Newser, Grease would write about Kara several years ago, as a club owner, as well as a tarot card reader. He would join the club as a DJ, and help her with the readings.

Remembering Zorro

It was almost a week ago on June 11 when the Sunweaver community found out one of it's own, Zorru Wurramunga, had passed away.  Soon after, this picture of him was placed at the community's main club, Cutlass, next to the dancing pole he sometimes used.

On Friday June 14, the party was dedicated in his honor, with a few Sunbeamers who hadn't been at the club in months showing up.

At the memorial to departed Sunweavers at Sunweaver Eclipse, a candle to Zorro had been set up. People left tributes, including a bottle of pirate's rum. One can see it at Sunweaver Eclipse (67/241/21)

Rest in peace, our fisher metal fox

Breaking News: Zorro Wuramunga Has Died

There was some sad news from Rita Mariner to the members of the Sunweaver community today. Zorro Wuramunga had passed away.

SAD INFORMATION ON ZORRO WURAMUNGA

It is with a heavy heart I must report on the death of Zorro. Shockwave Yareach asked the local police to do a welfare check, on Zorro. The police found him dead, in his apartment. That is all we know, at present.

Zorro had last logged in on April 21. He had been a resident of Second Life since December 2007.

Zorro was best known in the Sunweaver community, of which he had been with for about fifteen years. He often acted a bit cantankerous. But had a sense of humor and was willing to take a joke, sometimes joking himself. He would often have a fishing game rod in his hand, giving him the nickname "The fisher fox." He would send the Newser a couple reader submissions, and be in a number of screenshot cartoons. He was also in the Relay for Life's Passionate Redheads team, and then the Sunbeamers.

Over a year ago, Zorro was injured in a car accident. He wasn't quite the same afterwards. It's possible that contributed to his passing. We don't know.

His profile was largely blank, except for, "So long, and thanks for all the fish."

Rest in peace.

Smoke Texan, Part Owner of 9/11 Memorial, Has Died

It was announced in the Echovets group in Second Life that Smoke Texan had recently passed away.

We lost a brother.... Many of you know that Smoke Texan passed away last week on May 2nd. Smoke served in the U.S. Marine Corps with honor. He was also a 9/11 rescue worker. His longtime partner Foxxy (Checkers.firelight) has started working on a memorial service in memory of, and in honor of his life.

Smoke Texan was among the people who was helping to keep the Stagg Island 9/11 Memorial up after it's owner passed away. He also made a 9/11 memorial track in 2019. In group chatter, it was also mentioned he was a DJ at some clubs. Echovets leader Stacy Lee (Stacy Maracas) would say, "He and Foxxy were apart of us when we first started.  He was a good dude, and a good brother.  They will be keeping his 9/11 honor sim up and running in his memory."

There will be a memorial service for him soon.

Reactions to Palomma Casanova's Passing

After the announcement that Palomma Cassanova, the owner of the Free Dove store, had died, there have been a number of reactions from Second Life residents. In Belliseria chat, there were many. "Oh so sad Palomma has been a help to all new peeps in SL for a very long time." "I was searching YT for a nice video about Free Dove and can't really find anything which is just "about" however the amount of users who have referenced Free Dove in their search terms of their sales videos is pretty amazing. Here is the oldest referenced one I found. Wow have times changed in SL's world of freebies and dollarbies. https://youtu.be/BXlHfTyti9A 8 years ago. ..." "She started her place back in 2006, thousands of people have benefited from it. Great freebies, sandbox, and you could set home there. Not a house, just 'Set home' there. The group has 150K members, plus all the ones that didn't keep it." "Yes I used to help at a place for new members years ago and we sent everyone there and often teleported them directly to Free Dove. I was often thanked by new members for showing it to them. Last time I was there was for the kittycats hunt." "The Free Dove has some of the best freebies in the grid.  I go there every few months and always recommend it to people. They also have some great hunts." "She was trying to improve the quality of freebies as back then it was hard to find good quality and original from a creator." "Very much so and they were all over the grid in the mainstores so it helped explore.♥" "She'll be missed for sure by many and I hope they do a nice memorial for her. Apparently she did not want Free Dove to continue without her."

There would be a thread in the forums for Palomma's passing, "I was sad to hear today that Palomma Casanova of the Free Dove has passed.  I'm very sad, but she is beyond suffering now, which is a blessing, as was counting her a friend throughout my time here.  Her hard work and generosity were remarkable, and SL will be the poorer without her"Patch Linden would post a comment on page 2, "I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Palomma Casanova.  My first reaction was to think through how to save the legacy she left behind, however this does seem to be in conflict with her wishes.  We will do whatever is respectfully necessary to move forward and offer any assistance where we can." Anne Brightstar would then suggest saving Palomma's Sunflower Park, at Epilais (230/197/100), "I do not think that in any way conflicts with Palomma's wishes to shut Free Dove, and it already has a touching memorial to her sister." Patch seemed to agree, "I would be absolutely supportive of that and I will explore if there is a way to preserve it and a memorial for her."

Someone in Bellisseria chat would point out this youtube made of the Free Dove some months ago.

This youtube was made just a few days ago to honor Palomma and her store.

Considering the reaction from her fans, it's fair to say Palomma will be remembered for a long time to come.

Memorial Dance by Relay Team River of Live

On Tuesday January 9, the River of Life Relay team held a Memorial Dance for one of their own.

A little bit ago we learned that The River of Life team lost one of it's members, Lil'Brat. She was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer a few years ago and fought as hard as she could right up to the end. She had done a number of RFL interviews talking about her experiences. Those were hard for her but she knew if it would help someone else to get through the hard times she was up for doing it. She will be greatly missed by many, please send prayers to her family.

Dropping by The River venue in the Stonehaven sim, the place was packed with over forty people. Over the radio stream, numerous people talked about Lil'Brat and how she did her best to fight her cancer.

A little more than 15,000 Lindens was raised that night for the Relay general funds.

Bree Himmel Has Died

There was some sad news late last week in Raglan Shire. Bree Himmel had passed away. She had gone to the hospital in late December and was held after being diagnosed with a blood clot.

At 5:15 pm (Thursday January 5), our friend Bree was reunited with her beloved pug Charlie across the Rainbow Bridge. Her death was completely unnecessary and is a direct result of the spectacular failure .... to value ppl with disabilities by fully funding Home and Community Based Services so they can get support for activities of daily living-of which Bree was in desperate need. Many of our Tiny friends and others have disabilities and for some, like Bree, SL is the most contact they get with the outside world. That’s what makes Raglan Shire and the ppl in it so special-it is a safe and friendly virtual space for ppl with disabilities to make friends and receive desperately needed social support. I know The Shire gave Bree a lot of happiness in an otherwise bleak existence filled with the “benign neglect” that so many ppl with disabilities experience. Over the years, we’ve lost a lot of Tiny friends for whom The Shire has been a Real Life Sanctuary filled with emotional safety and happiness. Perhaps, one day, the RL world will catch up. Until then, thank you Tiny community, all your many kindnesses are never forgotten. Rest Easy Basement 🐈‍⬛—Lyra Snowpaw, BKOD

Besides at Raglan as one of the "Basement Kitties of Doom," Bree could also be seen at Caledon. In real life, she was Diane Hazel Delaney of Texas.

Minnirainbow of Raglan Shire Has Died

The following was posted by Pieni Resident in the Raglan Shire group:

I am deeply sorry to give you such terrible news. Our friend Minie, in real life: Jackie, has passed. She died in her sleep, holding the hand of a friend. She had been having serious health issues all her life, and lately they had been increasing in difficulty. She got a massive infection from a wound they operated on, but could not fix in time. She was a friend and family to so many of us.

If any of you wish to send something in real life, let me know, and I will give the address. She lived in a nursing home and did not have immediate family, though. So it will go to her friends and caretaker staff. I will send a separate note inworld and on Facebook, when I know what to do about her Second Life memorial. She had been preparing me for sad news for a while now, so I will do my very best to respect her wishes in all possible ways.

She was my best friend and my family in real life had accepted her as our own. I will be grieving for quite a while, and I hope I can be there for you all in your grief, but please understand, that I may not be at my best right now. Jackie kept telling me I wasn't allowed to howl in holes after her. I will respect her wishes to be silly and cussy and hilariously weird. But also I insist her ghost not tickle me for crying like a tornado for a long time.

Her full Second Life name was Pikku GlitterFarts MorgenMuffel (Minnirainbow), and Jackie Hill in real-life. Those wishing to make a show of financial support, it's been suggested they donate to Spina Bifida month, which she had: https://www.spinabifidaassociation.org/blog/10-ways-to-celebrate-spina-bifida-awareness-month-in-2022/

There will be a memorial party for her on Sunday November 6 at Morning Shire at 12 Noon

London City Honors Queen Elizabeth

Queen Elizabeth of Great Britain died earlier today. At 96, she had been Queen for seventy years, one of the longest reigns in both British and world history. Her years had seen much from the Cold War and decolonialization to the Falklands War and later the Gulf and Iraq wars and the age of radio moving to television and then the Internet.

She wasn't expected to be queen when she was born, but her uncle was a bit of a playboy, and eventually abdicated. Her father had to overcome a stutter, of which a movie was made, "The King's Speech." He died of cancer when she was relatively young. Her relationship with her husband Prince Philip is believed to have been a happy one, though in her later years her sons and grandsons would be partially known by family drama that appeared frequently in the tabloids. For the most part, she was seen as the rock holding the family together.

The reaction in Second Life has already started. At London City, a memorial was set up. It included a British flag at half staff, along with a crown on a pedestal with a flame at the base, a guestbook with candles, and three pictures that gave a slide-show of Queen Elizabeth over the years.

The memorial is close to London City (75/218/23). Those with older computers may need to wait as when I dropped by, there were almost ninety people in the sim.

Rest in Peace.

Friday Night Relaystock Event Turns Into Tribute For Departed Friend

With fewer musicians than Saturday or Sunday, some Relayers might overlook Friday at the Relaystock. But Quartz's performance for team Spirit or the Dragon at 6PM got attention due to a sad turn of events. he had been planing on doing the event in behalf of a friend suffering from cancer. But, her fight against cancer had come to the end no one wanted earlier that day.

[17:21] Darkstone Aeon: I would like to invite you to join me at Relay Stock  - the one event Spirit or the Dragon Relay team is doing this year - @ 6pm Quartz is singing to help raise funds for American Cancer Society -

Tonite I was going to tell the story of a friend in real life who has kept a diary she kept on fb & talk s of her journey with cancer for the last 236 days and her battle with Graft-versus-host disease  - tonite she lost her battle - I am here because I can -    so I dedicate this night to Mary  RelayStock (72,122,23)
[17:24] Liz Wilner: Bless Mary
[17:27] Alison Flow: hugs stone
[17:27] Rayvynex Resident: We Relay for those who cant....for all the Marys

Quartz would perform for one hour from 6 to 7 PM. As he played his music, people from the audience donated thousands of Lindens to the kiosk on stage. While the Newser didn't get the total team Spirit of the Dragon got that night, it's on the record it was over 11,000 in the middle of the show.

The musicians start up again today at 10:30 AM SL time, including the Sunbeamers' Cynthia Farshore at 3 PM. Sunday at 3PM has DJ Kalya of Roos With a Dream. The last scheduled event later that day at 5PM is the Relay Rockers' Trader Whiplash.

Memorial Service for JasElm Mertel

A number of things in real life can cause someone's journey in Second Life to end temporarily such as finances, military deployment, and illness. But one thing can end it permanently: death. Sadly, JasElm Mertel passed away earlier this month. She had friends in a number of places, including the Safe Waters Foundation. The mermaid community responded by hosting a memorial service in her honor.

A few days ago, it was announced that Curzan Markn Alexain (Curzan Markn) had passed away.

Curzan was one of the people whom occasionally came to the Happy Vixen Beach club, often with his partner FantaC Nymph Alexain (ladyfantaC Resident). Besides dancing at clubs, he liked sailing and windsurfing, as well as 7Seas fishing and building things. In real life, he was working on a house, in addition to a car.

The cause of death was described as a sudden heart attack. There is a memorial service being planned soon at the Island of Misfits.

Rest in peace.

Avi Arrow, Owner of The Ivory Tower, Has Died

Sad news for fans of the Ivory Tower of Primitives. Avi Arrow, the owner of the noted longtime location in Second Life, has died. The news was announced in the Ivory Tower Library Group.

We are very sad to inform everyone that our beloved friend Avi Arrow passed away at home Saturday, October 23, 2021 surrounded by her family.

She will be deeply missed.

I had a few words with Marcov Carter, one of four officers in the group. "She will be deeply missed," he spoke of her, "she had a lot of good friends, she did a lot for the comunity, very sad." He stated an inworld memorial service was being planned and "we will rez two statues, in Zoe, as she wanted, close to (the) Lumiere Noir memorial." Of the Ivory Tower area, "Kennylex Luckless and I, will do our best to keep this place as it is, as Avi asked to us."

For those wishing to pay their respects now, "as a lot of friends started to rez objects for Avi near the table, where she used to stand, we made a temporary memorial." Taking a look for myself, there were candles, a rose, and a screen showing a slide-show of pictures of Avi.

Avi Arrow helped the founder of the Ivory Tower of Primitives, Lumiere Noir, run the place until he passed away in 2015. The Tower was created early in Second Life history to be a place of learning how to build and script.

Avi would present the Newser with an improved sign for it's office as a tenth anniversary present last year.
