Cartoon of The Day: Christmas Segway

Taken at EAW. Looks like this segway rider got decorative. Or maybe, it was someone else's doing.

Cartoon of The Day: "Tree-Mendous Outfit"

Taken at Club Zero Gravity. Looks like someone decorated her outfit with some tree lighting. But yes, it does make for a "tree-mendous" look.

It Came From Bellisseria Chat

From Kira Skydancer, who was giving her Linden Home a haunted house look for Halloween, "A tad early but right now I'm just messing with things." She got a few responses, "It's never too early to start working on the perfect atmosphere. Only 4 days until we can put up our outdoor Halloween decor. ..." "Halloween is a year round thing in my opinion. ... Time to go creep on her house and peer in from the road." Kira responded, "You can come and say hi, you don't have to lurk."

The Halloween discussion would go on for a while, including debating adding giant spiders, as while scary, there were some true arachnophobics among those who would be trick or treating.

Luskwood Goes Wonderland

Luskwood has gone down the rabbit hole, so to speak.

Heading over to the Lusk sim, I found Luskwood's "Big Tree" had been decked out in the style of "Alice in Wonderland." There were playing card guards. There were books all over the place, including
a couple arches made out of them. There were large roses in places. There was a tea cup with hot tea the size of a hot tub. And there was a tea party setting, with table and chairs and teapots and goodies.

Besides the Wonderland-themed decorations, there are others. In the posters, some were old ones from events long ago, though there was one advertising the SLPonycon in June. There was also a picture poking playful fun at one of the Luskwood founders. And as always, there are the avatar vendors inside the tree, and the games in the back.

It's unknown how long this new look will be up for. Possibly for another month. But for fans of Luskwood whom are interested in seeing what's new, it's a good time to drop by and have a look.

Luskwood is Second Life's oldest furry community, and possibly the oldest one that's still around.

What's in The Water at Luskwood?

Occasionally, the "Big Tree" at Luskwood gets a new look for a few weeks, such as the time it went Egyptian. But I received a tip from Spooked Dreamscape that their latest theme was a rather uncheerful one. Heading over, much of the place had a dim, gritty, industrial look, with water that was green with some unknown chemical, looking a bit toxic, and something stretching tentacles out of it. The evening sky contributed to the dark image of the location.

I noticed a sign in a few places, saying something about water purification and industrial runoff. But it was obscured by another proclaiming "Rebellion," saying that the water was unsafe to drink and asking the residents to unite against the "Council." On the bottom was the Lusk symbol with closed eyes and an "X" where the mouth would be.

It's unknown how long this dark and gritty display will be up. With Luskwood's anniversary in about a month and a half, presumably it will be taken down by then.

Founded just a few months after Second Life's official opening, Luskwood is considered the oldest active community in Second Life

Book Island SL Newser Location Gets A Makeover

Remember a few days ago when the Newser had to move it's auxiliary office at Book Island? Since then, we've decorated the place a little. Yours truly put up some pictures. But Gemma Cleanslate did most of the work, putting in carpeting, chairs, desks, and flowers. So it's now a place to relax, as well as get the news.

Book Island (225/217/496)

Book Island continues to have events, such as the book reading here hosted by Selina Greene, with manager Otter Xue also there. So if you're an avid book reader, or perhaps want to share a little of something you did recently, join the group and keep an eye out for events.

Rescuing Deepmarsh

On late Thursday night, September 27, I was informed about Deepmarsh, a beautifully-designed sim that apparently was in trouble and in danger of vanishing. Given a name, Honor Woodget, I messaged her, and the following day got in contact with her. She told me she was an estate owner, "The lady that rents from me has had this place for ages. Her display name is River, but her account name is Moya McCallen. She set it up as a relaxation sim, come hang out calm down, take photos, etc. As you can see, she's done a wonderful job."

"About three weeks ago, the sim went past due. Because she'd been here a long time and it was such a well done place, I was patient instead of reclaiming it. At eight days late, I managed to catch her online. She said real-life work had kept her really busy, and she was having trouble getting online. As she was TPing to the tiles to pay rent, she crashed. (I) haven't seen her since."

"Now, she had a good friend who was listed as co-owner of the place: Bigticket Resident. He couldn't afford to pay rent on it, and offered to let me spam the group for help." She directed my attention to the donation box in the building in the middle of the sim, "At two weeks late, I put up that ugly box you see behind you (laughter) for donations." I asked how much was raised. Honor answered, "Visitors and group members paid me enough to pay the two back weeks rent, plus this past week." As we spoke, someone came into the sim, dropped a little cash into the box, and left, Honor saying, "And there's another 200L$"

"So tier is due again today (Sept 28)," she went on, "and I'm hoping to keep it going another week. ... From 11 L to 2000L donations, every single bit goes to the rent." Honor told me most was coming from other members of the group, saying they really wanted the sim to stay, "they love it."

"I'm just hoping Moya aka River comes back soon," Honor commented, "I think she'd be amazed at how people stepped up to help." She had no idea when that might be, "Two people have email addresses and have updated her, but no reply yet." They are considering the possibility she might not be back, "Right now, the community is weighing its options. ...to confirm the rumor, last weekend I did a donation matching thing for a bit. (We) got 4k in donations in 1 hour, which I matched. I might end up doing a dance here. But the 20 avatar limit bites. But yeah a fund raising event is possible. And there may be a buyer for it who would keep it as is."

"It's a great place for photo shoots or just zoning out. I mean I decorate some, as a land lady, but this place rocks."

Those who want to check out the sim for themselves, donate, or both, can head to: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Beck/114/148/21. There's also a Flickr group for pictures.

Cartoon of the Day: La Dio Los Muertos

Taken at the Firestorm Halloween Party. Being a skeleton means among the meat lost are the glands that power desires, so one shouldn't have to worry about that from these creatures. Then again, if you see a skeleton reaching out for you, that may be the last thing on your mind.
