Barney Helps Alien Invasion at Zeta Valley

Remember when the Zeta Valley Club had to deal with an alien invasion? It seems the aliens came back and they had an ally: Barney the Dinosaur.

 "Bix, you missed the epic Barney battle," Geerkil told me. "Yes what a war," LS Raccoon added. "Happens when you are not here to cover it. the aliens came back." Apparently Clockwork Jackal and his friend Biohazard were dealing with a second force of aliens, smaller than the first one that hit a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, more trouble showed up. "Then all hell broke loose," Geerkil told me. What was the form of the hell? It was Barney.

Yep, the purple dinosaur who sings songs that brainwash little kids into loving him and sends adults running away screaming came to the club as the fighting with the aliens started up. The purple horror would be a nightmare in itself. The good news, no one had to deal with the accused music that works on the brains of adults like sandpaper and has proved an effective interrogation method at Guantanamo Bay. The bad news, he was sporting a weapon, and joined the fight by firing at the club's defenders.

"Barney armed with a grenade launcher took on two foes," Geerkil told me, "Barney was defending the aliens." "Yeah, he was battling Biohazard and Clockwork," JB Raccoon added.

Clockwork and Biohazard might have been able to repulse the aliens with firearms alone. But with the dreaded purple monstrosity added to the assault force, it was decided there was no choice but to use their weapon of last resort: a mini-nuke. So like the first battle with the aliens a few weeks ago, this battle ended with a mushroom cloud over the club. When it cleared, the aliens, and the purple nightmare were gone. By morning, the radiation levels were back down, and all damage was repaired.

While these particular aliens may have been disposed of, Barney is assumed to have survived the nuke. Such abominable evil has a way of surviving to strike again.

Fanny Starr To Present Holocaust Discussion on Youtube, Feb, 22

One of the oldest residents in Second Life is FannyStarr Hilltop, Fanny Starr in real life. As a Holocaust survivor, she has on occasion talked about her experiences in Second Life, such as in March 2015 when she spoke at the VWBPE conference. Later this month, she will be having another discussion. But it will be on Youtube, and not Second Life.

"We tried to have it in SL, too many people," Explorer Dastardly, FannyStar's real-life daughter, told the Newser, "At least 1000 or more on live Youtube that we know of. ... The sims would crash, so I asked Spiff, and one idea was Youtube live." As of now, there are no plans for an inworld location of any kind where the event will be discussed, "I wanted to use cookie, the amp theater, but only 40 avatars allowed. But on Youtube you'll be able to ask questions. We will have a moderator."

Despite the efforts of historians and people like her to educate the public, Holocaust denial is still an issue. "It's a very serious issue, on grand scale worldwide." She went on to say the problem wasn't just neo-Nazis and radical Muslims, but people in politics and business whom were either incompetent or just didn't care. She cited one Huffington Post news article about Amazon allowing the sale of books calling the Holocaust a "myth", and a Washington Post story in which this year's annual statement from the White House on International Holocaust Remembrance Day failed to mention the six million Jews whom were murdered. Of the later, she felt was probably a sign of ineptness rather than malice, "We don't know, but its caused a lot of fear and hate. We'll talk about that next Wed. night."

Holocaust Survivor Speaks at the VWBPE Conference

Last Friday March 20, Holocaust survivor Fanny Starr (FannyStarr Hilltop) spoke to an audience at the Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education Conference about her experiences during her ordeals from the Lodz Ghetto to the concentration camp of Bergen Belsen. She was with her real-life daughter Explorer Dastardly onstage, who helped with the discussion. The people there had a number of questions for them about the atrocity, and some related issues.

"Good and Evil" Night at Club Zero Gravity's "Haunted Woods"

Among the clubs in Second Life having special Halloween events in late October was Club Zero Gravity. To begin with, the space club decided to have it's events from mid-October to Halloween not at the station, but in the "Haunted Woods," a platform created by Jasmine Dawn Shuftan. Last night's party was "Good vs Evil Night, with partygoers dressed up as angels, devils, heroes, monsters, and more.

Tonight at the Haunted Woods, it's "Good vs Evil." Do you see yourself as a perpetual good guy, always wanting to do good and be righteous? Or are you the bad guy, taking delight in acts of villainy and just being bad? Pick a role, and choose a look to go with it, such as an angel or night in shining armor, or a devil or barbarian raider? Or maybe someone "evil in a good way" like a seductress. Whatever role you wish to be, wear it with pride and fly on over.

DJ Reactor spun the tunes for the party, at one point about 20 present and dancing away, "Welcome to the Haunted Woods," visitors were greeted, "Be careful about venturing too far into the forest, as those who go too far often vanish, waking up later on the beach with no memory how they got there."

The party went on for two hours, and eventually it was time to decide the winner. Skylark Lefarve was the one who got the most votes for the 500L prize.

The next party at Zero-G's Haunted Woods is on Thursday, Halloween night, which is sure to be filled with fun, dance, and another prize to give out to the best costume. The party's at Purrfection Estates Hautned Woods (216, 39, 1314).

Reflections on a Massacre

On Friday, the headlines of real life news were filled with reports of a massacre in a Connecticut school, in which 26 people, including 20 kids, were gunned down. And in real life as well as Second Life, people were asking "Why?" Numerous groups yours truly is a part of discussed the tragedy. How could some one just up and shoot down kids? How could such evil could have materialized on the most innocent of souls? Prayer vigils were held in some places on the Grid for the fallen, including the church pictured above.

Both Fox and CNN had people blaming violent video games, much to the irritation of some Second Life residents. Others blamed relatively easy access to firearms by the general public, which triggered some passionate debates in both group chats and out in the open. Liberals argued guns needed to be kept out of dangerous hands, and the average citizen had no business owning them. Conservatives countered people had the right to self defense, if not a duty, if for no other reason the cops might not get to someone's house in time if armed intruders attacked.

With friends on both sides of the issue, yours truly has been listening a lot more than speaking about it, and have heard some noteworthy comments on it over time. I could go on and on about what I've heard, but chances are you the readers have heard most. Best that this reporter can say is be careful about debating your friends about this issue. They believe just as passionately as you, and this is not worth wrecking friendships over.
