New Firecracker Arcade at Montecito Bay

It was almost a year ago when the Newser first reported on the Firecracker Arcade, a place at Montecito Bay in which one could play dozens of video games like at the arcades of the 1980s and 90s. But recently, the neon pink has closed and the games moved out. They've been moved to another, somewhat larger arcade in another location in the north end of the sim.

The new Firecracker arcade looks a little like a converted warehouse building, with the word "Arcade" in big letters on the side. The ground floor has the "carnival" games, with the largest one "Slime Squish" located outside along with a bull-riding game and some other novelties. Walking inside, straight ahead is the bowling game in the middle, with some other games at the walls such as Wack-A-Mole, and the dancing game Freestylers Groove.

The second floor is where the video arcade games are, and there are many dozens. Some are actual arcade games such as Pac Man and Altered Beast. Others are home video games that in real life never were in coin-operated machines, such as Sonic and Mega Man. A few such as Sailor Moon R I'd never heard of a video game adaptation of. One, Sim-City, seems an odd fit as it's a strategy game and not an action one. But one can make a quick town with it (not sure how one can save their progress here).

It's recommended that you appear outside the club rather than making a landmark inside as the information from the machines can take some time to load, especially if you have a slower computer and appear next to a number of arcade games. But the place is well worth going to, especially for those with fond memories of video arcades. So be sure to come by and get your game on.

The Happy Vixen Movie Theater

There's been a change with the beach venue of the Sunweaver/Angel community. The Happy Vixen Beach club now has a theater one can enjoy watching one of many dozens of movies from cartoons to live action, classics from several decades ago to more recent releases, from memorable films to cheesy flicks. I had a few words with one of the two people behind this new attraction.

Club Furzona Moves

Earlier this year, Cyfir (Cyfiremmerich) wrote about Club Furzona. Recently, he found out about a new development with the venue: it's moving. There's a video to help celebrate the occasion, as well as special events today and tomorrow at the new location.

SS Galaxy Relocated to Bellisseria Coast

Yesterday evening, word began to spread about a sight just off the west coast of the new continent of Bellisseria. It was the SS Galaxy, Second Life's largest ship, three sims in length.

A vacation cruise liner, from 2007 to 2015 it was an active area, it's owner and staff renting out rooms and organizing events. Then following it's worst griefing attack ever in which the particular Linden that answered to their call for help responded poorly, the decision was made to close the ship. But Linden Lab decided to bring the ship back, and several months later it was back on the Grid.

But, there was no staff to welcome people, organize events, or arrange for people to have a cabin for a while. Occasionally people from outside would organize an event. Still, it wasn't the same ship those who saw it in earlier days knew. On those occasions I went there, I was either alone or there was just one or two others.

After hearing from a couple friends, I decided to check things out for myself. While the ship's old location on the map showed it there, a closer look showed nothing but water and the sims were inaccessible. While where the Galaxy really was, it wasn't showing on the map nor were the sim names. Nor could anyone TP there. One could only head over from the adjacent Hibiki, Bazby Gulf, and Belby Depths sims.

Getting there, the ship was the same one I remembered, and I ran into people from the continent whom were happily looking the ship over and inviting over friends. If Linden Lab wanted to revive interest in the ship, it's done so for the short term. The Newser was told that someone from the Lab would be making an announcement soon. So stay tuned for further details.

Nuyu Modtacular Gacha Event Moved Up To December

A few days ago, the Newser reported on the upcoming Nuyu Modtacular Gacha Event in Montecito Bay. Originally to take place from the first of November to the 30th, it was announced the event has been moved up to December. The new dates are December 1 to December 31.

We have decided, after some careful consideration, that the NuYu event should be pushed back until DECEMBER! That way, we're not stepping on any toes from the Gacha Guild, and it gives our lovely creators some extra time to work! Your deadline to join is STILL October 15th! See you there!

What Happened to Aero Pines?

In the past, the Newser did a number of stories on Aero Pines Park. This park area had a number of activities, most noted for it's nature trails and horseback riding. But it also had yearly parties and festivals, in addition to it's 9/11 firemen tribute. But earlier this year, the park closed down. Recently, I had a chat with it's former owner Cindy Bolero, and she explained what happened.

Stagg Island 9/11 Memorial Has Moved

Yesterday, the Newser reported that Stagg Island sim had vanished, along with it's memorial to the fallen of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. It turned out that the memorial is still around. It had been moved to the Yellow River sim.

Talking to Smoke Texan, one of the people there, he explained, "Well the creator, Faz (Fazio Magic) passed away in December, So Geena (Geena Zackerly) his partner moved it here 'cause it was cheaper. So a few of us are having auctions and such to help her pay her tiers to keep it open." The auctions will be starting on the "13th and go to the 20th." Smoke did say they could use a few more items donated to be auctioned off, "We've gotten bikes and log cabins and riding tracks so far. Geena really tries to do it herself, but I know she needs the help."

In both text and voice, Smoke and his friend Phoenix Nightfire explained there are future plans for the memorial, depending on how much is raised. It is likely the memorial will be placed at the top of a motorcycle track. But the important thing is keeping it online as a lasting memorial to the fallen of the largest terrorist attack on American soil.

Goblin Cave Moved to Caledon Downs

Cynthia Farshore, the owner of Farshore Radio, has moved her Goblin Cave. When first built in Pacific Waters a few years ago, it overlooked the Farshore Field airport. And when the airport moved to Sunlight Bay, the cave moved with it. But during the air show in June, it was revealed the hill the cave was in interfered with air traffic. But there was a solution: move the venue to Caledon Downs, which Cynthia acquired in April.

The main feature of the cave is the party and social area, where the music to Farshore Radio is streamed between events. People can dance on the floor, chat at the tables, or order a drink from the Orc bartender. The gremlin bartender from earlier times apparently ate after midnight. Taking the stairs, one can go down to a gaming area with pool, Greedy, and other games. Beneath that is the jacuzzi area. Above the social areas are picturesque cave, garden, and waterfall areas which one can explore around a little, relax with a companion, or turn up your draw distance and look around the surrounding area.

On the evening of Tuesday July 31 at 7PM, Cynthia held a grand reopening party for the venue, which a number of people attended. So far, the Goblin Cave is fitting in with it's new home region of Caledon quite well.

ZZ Studios Moves and Reopens

For the second time in a little more than a year, ZZ Studios, whose owner Cindy "Zig Zag" Babii we interviewed in 2011, has once again moved. In October 2011, the adult media outlet and club moved to the Static Nightclub sim, which would soon be renamed after the venue. It would stay there for three years until moving in August 2014. And now once again, they've relocated to a city block in the Sheridan sim

Well, we had to move and rebuild...and are still rebuilding, but...Club is open and office is open and soon wifi cafe and other things!  So those of you wanting the new location...   HERE!  Now get down here and hang out, enjoy!

For October, the venue plans "Terror Tuesdays" and have plans for a car show around Halloween.

Virtual Gettysburg Gets a New Home

Last month in December 2013, the Newser reported on the Virtual Gettysburg exhibit, which at the time was a temporary setup in the Sunset Isle sim. For those who enjoyed the display, there's some good news. The battlefield now has a new home in Redemptions.

"I'm happy to announce that we've moved to a new sim, which will hopefully be a permanent home," Trodden Mills explained to me, "we have more prims now so we will have a chance to expand -- I've got someone working on a walking tour that should be very impressive. ... Something with more information than the balloon tour."

Trodden also explained they will be fixing a few bugs the display had, such as some "holes" in the terrain, "At least we can guarantee no one will fall ..." *grin*

Virtial Gettysburg is now at Redemptions (98, 23, 3965)

Club Fur back in Furnation

Since the closing of the Furnation Prime sim in 2009, Club Fur has been owned by Alynna Vixen. It was moved to Kitsuhana, and reopened in November 2010. It stayed high above the sim for a few years, until a few days ago when Alynna announced that the Furnation Prime sim was back, and she had moved the club back there. She is looking for DJs and hosts & hostesses.

Now that the sim is back, there's no reason the club should not follow.   Please accept the new landmark.  We should be reopening in about a week or two.

Club Fur is the oldest furry-themed club in Second Life, possibly the oldest club still around. It is a member of the FCA club alliance. It's new location is FurNation Prime (55, 31, 21).

Tales From Podex: Moving Target

By Bixyl Shuftan

He'd get them this time.

Again and again, he had tried to rob that bank. And again and again, he had failed. While sometimes he had simply gotten away with nothing gained, others he'd been caught by the cops and tossed in the slammer for a while. Either way, he had no Lindens to show for all his work.

Well, it would be different this time. His plan would be foolproof. He'd hoodwink his way in, get access to the safe, then grab all the Lindens.

Nothing would go wrong.

He'd walk away vindicated as the master thief he was, and that Podex Bank would be humiliated. No more would they call him "Clumsy Cooper."

Reaching the Moonburry sim, he approached the bank's location, near the beach. He gleefully went over the steps of his flawless plans, then he stopped.

Something wasn't right. The bank wasn't supposed to look like that.

He continued forward, the closer he got, the more worried he got. "It, can't, be," he thought allowed. Finally, he reached the location.

The bank building was missing.

Podex was gone.

GONE!

In it's place, there was a large green sign, "WE MOVED. We moved to new location. Podex."

"No! Noooooooo!!"

The furred thief dropped to his knees, "NO!! I spent weeks perfecting the perfect plan! AND THEY MOVE!! You can't do this to me Podex! You can't do this to me!! Why?! Whyyyyyyyyyy?!!"

He collapsed onto the ground, sobbing, "It's, not, faaaiiirrrrr …"

*  *  *  *  *

Meanwhile many sims away in Coda, the tellers worked away at the new Podex Exchange building. "Well," one spoke to the other, "how do you like the new office so far?"

"It's great," the other answered, "There's lots of room, and I love the boss's art collection."

"Yes, he does like to collect."

"So far, we've been getting most of our usual level of traffic."

"It does look like our customers are having no trouble finding us."

The second teller pondered, "Hmmm, I wonder."

"What's up?"

"That Clumsy Cooper who's always trying to rob us."

"Oh yeah, knowing him, he probably won't know where to look for a while," both tellers chuckled, "even if he did, no matter what he tries, he won't walk away with a single Linden. All business is done through electronic transfer. He'll never get his hands on our Lindens."

"Yeah," the second teller continued to chuckle, "he'll never learn."

The Podex Exchange has a record of being one of the safest Linden exchange services in Second Life, the data processing done outside the exchange, and has a record of thousands of satisfied customers. Transactions can be done at their website, or their location inworld now at Coda (45, 218, 61).

New Podex Location

The Podex Exchange has moved. They recently moved to a new and larger office building. They now can be found in the Coda sim at (45, 218, 61).

Podex Exchange, sometimes called the Podex bank, exchanges Lindens for several world currencies. They are a sponsor of Second Life Newser.
