Tribute City

Gemma Cleanslate recently took a look at a relatively new place in Second Life, Tribute City. Located in WW2 Tribute, the sim in the past was the location of the Flying Tigers and air combat. Today, the Tigers have moved on. But the sim has taken on new life in the form of fishing spots, four clubs for partying, newcomer freebie and help, and much more.

It's a week of summer fun in Second Life. The Olympics continue, and so they're reflected on the Grid with events in the London sims and in the Flying Tigers' Sports Festival. Check out the artistic events in the Linden Endowment of the Arts sims. And of course there are our regularly scheduled book and poetry readings, DJ and live music parties, church services, and talk shows.

Events This Week in Second Life from July 31 to August 6

The Olympics are here! And not just in real life, or for most of us the boob tube. The London areas have a number of Olympic themed events. Plus the Flying Tigers have their Sports Festival. If the Olympics isn't your thing, "Jamm for Genes" is this weekend, in which numerous musicians perform live for charity. And of course there's our regularly scheduled lineup of book & poetry readings, club DJ events, talk shows, and church services.

Flying Tigers Sports Festival

Description: In honor of the upcoming Olympics the Flying Tigers Sims are having a 16 day special event! Events will include live DJs, tribute band concerts, a sports themed fashion show, and sporting events! We will also offer merchants and exhibitors a free shop or exhibitors space with 50 prims.

Fourth of July in Second Life

July 4rth saw a number of Independence Day celebrations across the Grid. From the Flying Tigers Festival in WW2 Tribute (pictured here), to the celebrations in Aero Pines Park, to various clubs, Americans and friends of America partied to the red white and blue.

Flying Tigers Host Fourth of July Festival

Join the Flying Tigers for a four day event to celebrate the Fourth of July! Events will include a patriotic fashion show, live djs, contests, contests, and of course fireworks! The event will also feature a special three day merchant fair, where you can shop while you party!

D-Day Commemoration

On June 6th, a D-Day commemoration was held in Second Life. Both the Flying Tigers and New Bastogne's German groups met at the WW2 Battlefield for a simulated battle as a way to honor those who fought in the real battle 68 years ago. Second Life Newser was there to get a few pictures of the action, and the meeting after the battle.

DESCRIPTION: We choose Remembrance as our theme of events for May, due to the fact that VE (Victory in Europe) Day is on May 8, 2012 in RL and that Memorial Day falls on, Monday, May 28, 2012.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

May 4-8, 2012 - VE Day Celebrations in the London Sims (Join the Flying Tigers, THI Industries, and the London Sims for 4 days of remembrance for VE Day! Events include a replica of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, which will occur over the London Sims, WW2 Plane Exhibits, and a Remembrance book at the London Sims Tower Hill War Memorial. May 19-20, 2012- WW2 Conference at the Flying Tiger's Sims. The First Annual Virtual WW2 Conference is looking for presenters who can present on various related subjects about WW2. The Flying Tigers' Group and Sims will allow you to participate in the conference as an attendee or a presenter from your home, school, work-without unnecessary travel or expenses. Conference presenters will be able to present virtually using a 3D avatar. Presentations will be in Second Life, but topics can be on any WW2 specific themes. Presentations can be from individuals, businesses, non profits, education institutions, or educational support business or industry. May 20, 2012 - Flying Tiger's Flyover at the 4th Annual Bay City Anniversary! This will take place at 130pm slt over the Bay City Fairgrounds. The Bay City Municipal Airport, the only Linden Labs owned airport, was a recent exhibitor at the SL Airport Expo.

May 25-May 28 - Memorial Day Weekend Events. During this weekened there will also be a military merchant's fair for content creators, as well as 3 days of live djs, contests, and events in the Flying Tiger's Sims.

June 1-3-Vintage Fashion Weekend. This event will feature vintage fashions and accessories for 3 days of fashion shows! A preview of modern fashions will also occur. It is an event where fashion meets aviation, with the Flying Tiger's providing the backdrop to the shows. The show is being staffed by Ava Jhamin, who is CEO of L'Amour Productions and Management.

Having a Blast at the Military Expo

It was "Death from above" at the March Military Expo early Tuesday afternoon. at 12PM SL time, formations of A-10 "Warthog" ground attack aircraft from the Flying Tiger's 74th Squadron took off from an airport in the WW2 Tribute sim. Their mission: destroy as many of the nearby ground targets as they could.

From the safety of the airport, onlookers could watch, and pan out safely from a distance. They watched as the aircraft blanketed the ground with bombs and missiles, turning tanks, oil drums, observation towers, etc. into black, smoldering, wrecks. But it wasn't long before the wrecks were repaired back into operation, requiring more blowing up from the pilots happy to do so.

Eventually, the pilots came back to base, where they congratulated one another. Among the Tigers was Vickster Khun, also known for her role at the New Bastogne WW2 Combat RP region. Earlier I had a few words with her and officer Jessi Warrhol. They described a few events, including a firefight and rescue on Thursday March 29th. Set for Noon SL time, the 38th Squadron will work with the SL Coast Guard in a firefighting and rescue mission. A ship on fire, if all goes as planned, will have the flames estinguished and the crew evacuated. At the Expo tomorrow. March 28th, will be two air assaults at Noon and 6 SL time respectively.

Besides watching the air campaigns, one can also go to the many shops set up on the memorial flying platform and buy a plane for oneself, or go to one of the music events. Sunday for instance had an Areosmith tribute band, with donations collected for the Relay for Life.

"Just when you think nothing on SL can surprise you anymore, you find yourself in the middle of a WWII aviation reenactment as a side gunner on a Japanese bomber with a white wolf wearing angle wings as your pilot. No kidding, but I digress. What started out four years ago as a small group of nomadic aviator friends flying around the grid for fun has evolved into a multi sim operation, the largest aviation group in sl with over 2400 members and a bunch of downright fun folks to hang out with. Meet 'The Flying Tigers.' "

~2011 SL National Day of the Republic Of China Flag Raising Ceremony~

Place: WW2 TRIBUTE Kunming Air Base

Time: 10/10/2011 3:30 AM SLT

Introduction:
Republic Of China National Day is commemorate Wuchang Uprising which happened on 10th of October, 1919. Wuchang Uprising was the beginning of the 1911 Revolution, and after two months, China's revolution had a great success to overthrow the Qing Dynasty and established Asia’s first republic, Republic Of China. This year is the 100th National Day. There will be a Flag Raising Ceremony in the WW2 TRIBUTE Kunming Air Base.

Things to remember and fellow:
1.Fellow the Sims Rule.
2.Wear formal clothes. Such as suits for men. Army Uniform is also allowed.
3.Please respect the ceremony. Keep quiet during the Flag Raising. And please look at the flag.
4.Admins have the right to kick or ban people who show their unrespectful to the ceremony or breaking the sims rule.

The Prize Plane

JessicaBelle Dayafter is noted for two things in Second Life. One is being a top pilot in the New Bastogne WW2 combat RP. The second is for being a designer of planes designed for use in this and similar combat RP areas, as well as fun for casual flight. Her German FW190 is her best known plane, but also developed a rendition of the US Navy Grumman Hellcat.

During the planning of the Second Life Newser party JessicaBelle Dayafter agreed to put up one of her JessicaBelle Aeronautic Productions planes as the big prize. The choice of planes was awarded during the second party to Kikas Babenco. We told her to contact Jessica for the plane, as well as sending Jessica a message.

Later on, I had a few words with Jessica. She gave me a few screenshots, “ I took the pics near the Flying Tigers sim, ‘cause the sim owner has my planes on display. She loved them so much.” She told me she had gotten in contact with Kikas and they met up. Kikias was given the choice between the FW190 and the Hellcat, and chose the FW190. There was one small complication, “It was her first time flying in Second Life. So I was trying to teach her.”

The results of Kikas’ training were, interesting, “The FW-190 is real fast. I told her many times this, and not to go above 40% throttle.” Trying it out in the Flying Tigers area, the plane flipped over, and she accidentally pressed the throttle, and the plane “was dragging us along the dirt.” So she had her guest-pilot a slower Stuka. It worked better, “had a leisurely ride around the combat sim,explained in great detail,and was about to have her try again but she had to log.”

The two met up later in the day and training resumed, but they soon found they weren’t alone. One of the opposing team’s pilots had spotter her, “He must really not like me. I was showing her how to fly in the Stuka, we're still almost 2 thousand meters up, and he comes gunning at us. Hee-hee.” And without VICE turned on, the fighter inflicted no damage for all his efforts.

It was an eventful day for Jessica.

Veterans Tribute Events on the US Marines’ Anniversary

Besides being the birthday of the US Marine Corp, Wednesday Nov. 10 offered a few events at the Second Life Veterans Tribute. Among them were a Coast Guard rescue, and a dogfight in the skies.

Interview with WW2 RP JG 2 Commander Vickster “Baroness” Kuhn

Among the people in the WW2 RP is Vickster Kuhn, the commander of the German JG 2 flight group, also known as the "Richthofens." As work was being done on an article for the combat sims, she agreed to an interview, to tell her side of what goes on with the combat roleplay, and some of how it came to be.
