RFL Team ACTS Raises 230,000 Lindens at Junkyard Blues

On Sunday night June 18, the Relay for Life team Team ACTS (Aether Chrononauts Tiny Steps) held a fundraising event at the Junkyard Blues club. OldeSoul Eldemar made the announcement in the Relay volunteer group.

Night falls across the bayou. The moon rises above a thin layer of clouds, illuminating the stage at the old blues joint. The Junkyard is ready, for 2 hours of amazing slow blues, presented by DJ Bard Wasp. Come hear him as he pours his heart and soul into the stream, presenting some of the best blues you've ever heard- everyone is welcome. Junkyard Blues (195,21,22)

And for every 1000 linden donation you get your choice of a home built by Bard himself.

Maybe it was Bard's offer to give people log cabin homes. But the donations kept coming and coming. Ninety minutes after the event started, the total raised was about 125,000 Lindens raised. Seven minutes later, it was up to 150,000. Ten minutes before the end, the kiosks had 183,000 donated in them. And when Bard got off the stage, his event had raised a total of 230,477 Linden dollars.

The event put Team ACTS into Sapphire status among the Relay teams. Only the Relay Rockers and Unmasking a Cure have higher totals. Following then are five Jade level teams: Team Shadow, Cure Chasers, Goreans in Relay for Life, Inspired Dreamwalkers, and Go the Distance. Then there are two Platinum ranked teams, Touched by Angels and TwoMoon Paradise Dreamers. And following those are the ten Gold level teams, of which in the middle is the Sunbeamer team, the team representing the community where the Newser office is.

Go Relay!

Events at RFL Activities and Junkyard Blues

On Sunday July 10, the RFL Activities sims, part of the sims for the Relay for Life Weekend track, but off the main path, were open to events. This included the Live Music stage.

At 6PM, Ichie Kamiche got up on stage to sing for the crowd. She got no shortage of applause during the time she was performing for Team ACTS.

Ichie may be one of the most versatile performers in Second Life. If you are looking for a voice that is sultry, sensuous, and as smooth as butter, who can both chill out a room and heat it to a frenzy, look no further. With a heart as big as her voice, I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Following Ichie was Toxic "Toxie" Darkmatter. Her performance was briefly interrupted when her small dog began barking, "yap yap yap!" That got a number of chuckles from the audience about the "anklebiter," "Dont tell them what you have, just bark." ""A dwarf pincher!" "Woof woof!" "My daughter just came in the room and goes 'OMG!' She is really good at that! (laughing out loud) love it!" "The things you do for barks."

Also going on that night was "Moody Blues on the Bayou" at The Junkyard Blues club, a DJ event also for Team ACTS.

Team Aether Chrononauts Tiny Steps presents the AMAZING BARD WASP, bringing you a night of moody blues on the bayou, This is a benefit for Relay For Life in Second Life.  This event will be at the Junkyard on July 10th on 2016 from 9-11pm SLT.

The Junkyard Blues club has been in the news a few times. Unfortunately a few years ago it was the target of extortionists who threatened to harass the place with "sim crashers" until they paid protection money. But the club refused to pay up and persisted, eventually outlasting the griefers.

There would be a few more Relay events this week, but what people were truly excited about was the Relay Weekend, just days away.
