Press Release: Burn2 Santalarity: "Great Things Come in Small Packages"

You are invited to participate in our next adventure! We have a new challenge for artists and builders - because our theme this time is this: Great Things Come in Small Packages.

Like a fable borne upon a mist of time, a magical, mysterious transformation is wrought upon the ancient dry lake bed we know as the playa. When the mist clears you see an alpine wonderland of mountains, hills and valleys.

Oh, but that is not all! As you draw in for a closer look, you notice something incredible: everything is small in size. You are surrounded by miniature villages and diminutive trains, with LIlliputian creatures and beings populating the scene. But don't let their small sizes fool you - things are rarely as they appear.

Doesn't that just stir up all sorts of things in your mind? Petites, Tinies, Micros..miniature camps and mini-mutant vehicles, the world goes small! Of course, we'll have a fun little Burn, too. You are invited to participate!

Tinies, petites and other small avatar creatives are especially invited to be a part of this event, to build, DJ and perform.

Press Release: BURN2 2014 Santalarity

Once again, we bring our unique style of winter hilarity to the playa, with snow and ice covering the dusty ground and Burners’ visions of the season scattered around. Santalarity is BURN2’s decommodification event, the antithesis of the typical rushed holiday season focused on profits and buying, on unrealistic expectations and joy found in aisle three.

Instead we ask, “What’s in the Box?” What do we want to give? We invite you to come to the playa, to observe artists’ interpretations of these questions, to ice skate, dance, drum and be present when we Burn the Box. Before the Box is burned messages left by visitors to the playa will be read, which shall express what they would like to give. To give without expectation of return. To give for the pure joy of giving.

Santalarity will be a 24-hour event, opening on Saturday, 13th December at 10:00 AM SLT/PST. The Lamplighters will kick off  the event with an initial drumming. The Box will Burn on the 13th at 12:00 PM SLT/PST and again at 8:00 PM SLT/PST.

Artists and builders are invited to apply to build on plots to the theme, by submitting an application at http://burn2.org/santalarityplots2014 - plots are free.

Press Release: Burn2 Santalarity Event

The Black Rock Desert is colder than you might expect this time of year. A lot colder. Overnight temperatures in Nevada’s high mountain desert have hit record lows. But now, after dumping a load of fresh snow, the clouds are gone. The moon reflects brightly off the smooth, frigid, white desert. The sky is awash with stars.

It’s been a long, lonely drive from Reno. Up ahead, a brilliant light glows. You rub your eyes, puzzled by the anomaly. Nothing lives out here. What could it be? You stop your pickup and step out to get a better view, standing on your running boards. All of a sudden, something seems to be pulling you...teleporting you...to ICE PLANET on the playa!

Welcome to BURN2 Santalarity’! This year, we’ve transformed the playa to an ICE PLANET Set on a future playa, aliens have come to help us restore peace and hope and celebrate a renewed planet. Come join us Saturday, December 14, from 10 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. SLT, for music, art, skating, fire and fun!
