Burn2 Concludes

Saturday October 24 was the main event of the Burn2 art and music festival, the "Burning of The Man." At at 12 Noon SL time, a crowd gathered to see it go up in flames.  And before too long, it was completely aflame.

After some time, it collapsed into embers and burnt glowing pieces of wood. For those who missed the first, there would be a second Man Burn at 6PM SL time.

On Sunday, there would be the Temple Burn. Originally scheduled at 12 Noon SL time, it actually started about fifteen minutes early. I would hear the censer burner finished reading the prayers early, so the flames fired up early.

The events would go on to Midnight and on, and that night would mark the official end to the art and music festival. For those who want to see more, most of the exhibits should be up a few more days  It's also likely a few DJs will play impromptu unscheduled events.

Burn on.

Cartoon Of The Day: This Really Burns My Butt

Taken at the "Burning of The Man." Somehow, someone ended up "bottoms up" with a glowing red timber over their backside. That would certainly hurt, and inspire some comments.

Scenes From Burn2, Continued

The Burn2 art and music festival continues. Yesterday we featured "The Man." What gets less attention but is still important is the festival Temple. This year, it's located in the center-north sim. People put prayers, tributes, and other short comments in the burner in the middle, and during the Temple Burn they are spoken (or rather texted) aloud. The Temple Burn is on Sunday October 25.

And of course there's the art exhibits.

And the art and music events. Some unscheduled ones take place after Midnight.

Burn2 takes place for three more days after today.

Cartoon of The Day: Two-Tu Tuesday?

Taken at Burn2. He has a skirt on, and when asked he was saying it was really a tutu, and it was Tuesday so why not "Tutu Tuesday?"

But looking at the design of the garment, there was one more pun.

Burn2: "The Man" Is Up

It took a little time, but "The Man" for this year's Burn2 art and music festival is up. I went by yesterday evening, and it was no longer in pieces on the ground, but it and it's base were built and upright.

I had a few words with Zoren Manray, the primary builder of "The Man." He told me because of real-life he had been delayed in construction, but had it "mostly up" by Tuesday night. Like other years, this one is based on it's counterpart at the real-life Burning Man, "every year an approximation of the real-life Man is made." But there are small differences, "the RL one had more trusses instead of solid parts and more artwork inside. Overall the shape and design is the same though. This year the design was interesting since the base was quite tall. Usually there is only one deck, but this has three. This also meant that in RL they had to limit the number of people on it to 40 or so.. to keep it from being overloaded."

"Also since they had to make the base so strong it lead to an interesting burn. It just did not want to collapse." Zoren did say they would at least try to make the burn last a little longer.

At night, neon tubes inside The Man make it more visible. And like what could be done with the real one, one can climb up it. Zoren did say there were a last few touches on it.

The "Burning of The Man" will take place on Saturday October 24.

More Burn2 Scenes

Burn2 continues, with it's exhibits and music events.

Besides the DJ events, the Lamplighters have some shows of their own.

Like other Burning Man events, they made decorating porto-potties an art form.

Last time there was no sign of "The Man," just a construction site in the general vicinity of where it should be. And it looks like I guessed right. Yesterday I saw the effigy lying down. Maybe it will be up by tomorrow.

All for now,

A Glance At Burn2

The Burn2 art and music festival is going on. At the 12-sim area, music parties are going on.

And there are numerous art exhibits up.

But there is one thing I haven't noticed. I didn't see the wooden effigy known as "The Man." I did see this build under construction close to the middle of the area. Maybe this is the future spot.

Stay tuned for more.

Coming Soon: The Octoburn

A Second Life yearly tradition will be taking place in a few days. After weeks of preparation, the main Burn2 festival, sometimes called the "Octoburn," is just about ready to take place. From Friday October 16 to Sunday October 25, over 12 sims there will be music shows, numerous displays of art, and other events such as the Lamplighters. The high points of the festival, the Burning of The Man and the Temple Burn, will take place Saturday October 24 and Sunday October 25 respectively.

At Burn2 Conception

This past weekend from Friday July 24 to Sunday July 26 was Burn2's Summer Burn event, also known as Conception. This year's theme was "The First Spark."

Friday night, I dropped by for a look, and the Burners were partying. Playing music that night were Red Heaven, Elysienne Nebula, Magi, and Dre. I also heard there was a particle show scheduled.

Quite a lot of fun was had, the Burners telling me, "Welcome home."

It was quite a fun three days. But in a few months the "Octoburn," the main Burn2 event, will take place, with not just a weekend, but several days of art, music, and fun over Deep Hole and several other sims.

Cartoon of The Day: Why The Blocks

Taken at the Winter Burn. Of this couple dancing, the girl was much shorter than the guy, and was wearing wooden blocks under her shoes.

Hopefully it helps with conversations in which they're trying to see each other's viewpoints.

Cartoon of The Day: Driven Batty

Taken at the Winter Burn. Not sure why he was wearing bat wings, but given the dumpster fire real-life news can sometime be, I could think of one reason.

Winter Burn Festival Ends

Last night were the final events of the Winter Burn, the Burn2 spinnoff event taking place in January at Burning Man Deep Hole. Late into the night, a few dozen people partied it up.

While the DJs played music from the stage, some from the crowd cheering them on.

While the events are over, aside from occasional unscheduled ones, the builds (most of them) will still be up for a few more days for those who couldn't make it or wanted to avoid the lag.

Winter Burn This Weekend (Last Events Tomorrow)

For Burning Man fans, this weekend offers a treat. The Winter Burn event is taking place at Deep Hole Burning Man, with numerous builds on the sim and music events.  The theme for this year's Winter Burn is Winter Gardens

From January 23 to January 25, BURN2 returns with Winter Burn, transforming the Playa into snow-dusted Winter Gardens filled with handcrafted glass greenhouses. Inspired by the culture of Burning Man, this community-driven event invites participation through art, music, shared gifts, and creative expression.

Explore performance stages, roaming art cars, an ice rink, and the iconic Effigy, all designed to spark connection and creativity.

Checking things out, the combination of ice and lights at night was just beautiful with some of the builds.

And with one event, the dance floor turned out to be a huge sled that slid across the snow.

Burn2 Art Car Races

On Friday night, November 7, I heard about one more event at the Burn2 area before things were cleaned up, an Art Car race event. Dropping by, some people were dancing, but others were on the tracks.

The art car races are getting rolling. Choose from 24 race cars that go 100mph on our 12-region track. Lily is DJing some great tunes in the stage area. Come join us! Burning Man- Deep Hole (127,83,25)

People would drive solo in cars or bikes, seeing how fast they could make the track.

 Or race with one another.

On occasion, a care of motorbike would have some mechanical difficulty, "Don't hurt yaself Sam, accidents happen."

So it seems the Burners were, burning rubber.

Announcement: Skin Burn

The Tomorrow Today world of Burn2's Octoburn event was amazing, wasn't it? And it still not quite over yet...

SOOOOOOOOoooooooooo...What's coming? SKIN BURN!

When?  SATURDAY, 8th November 2025
Times?  BURNS: 12pm SLT and 6pm SLT (yes, we will do it twice)
            CHECK-IN: 10-11:30am SLT, 4-5:30pm SLT
Where? (location of check-in platform to be announced on website and notices)

WHAT IS SKIN BURN? Glad You Asked!
Skin Burn is a BURN2 decompression event, an encore Burning of the Man in a low lag environment.

WHY do we do this?
During the weeklong annual Burn event, the sims can get pretty laggy, so some Burners don't get to see the Man Burn quite so well. Thus we have an encore Burn with lower lag for everybody.

HOW do we do it?
We STRIP - down to our skins!

Doesn't matter - system avatar or mesh body/head avatar.  Get down to just your skin, take off and detach everything else.
Then, decorate that avatar! Use skins, system layer clothing, BOM... get creative! EXPRESS yourself!
More details about the steps can be seen here: https://www.burn2.org/tomorrowtoday/skin-burn/

You can pick up some system skins and copies of the scales we will use at the check-in area, and prepare ahead of time:

A Busy Halloween Weekend

Quite a bit happened this weekend. The PBC had it's seminar about Medicare and Medicaid. Burn2 had it's Thank You Party (pic above). "The AI Land" art exhibit had it's grand opening. Rosehaven would have it's Farewell Ball. Veterans Isle would have its monthly fundraiser. Making Strides against Breast Cancer had the last of their events.

And various locations would have Halloween events.

We'll get to these topics when time permits.

Burn2 Ends, Burning of "The Man"

This weekend saw the last two days of the Burning Man art and music festival, and on Saturday October 25 was the main event: the burning of "The Man." A crowd gathered to see the final moments of the wooden effigy (this was the best picture of the crowd I could get before I crashed).

Before the burn, the lamplighters would do a dance.

There were also some fireworks. Some minutes after Noon SL time, "The Man" caught fire.

The effigy burned to a char and began to fall apart. And as the burning wood fell, the base caught fire as well.

And that too burned away and fell apart.

Once the fire died down, people were invited to dance on the embers.

The festival is now over, though many of the art exhibits will still be up for a few more days. Feel free to explore them. Some Burners may also be throwing impromptu parties. But soon all of the temporary builds will be gone, leaving no trace. At least until the Winter Burn in a few months.

Scenes From Burn2

Burn2, the Second Life version of the real-life Burning Man festival, is going on. Across 12 sims, there are various exhibits and music events going on. While the official entrance at Burning Man-Deep Hole (147/30/24), one can enter on the grounds anywhere.

There are artistic exhibits of all kinds.

This year's theme is "Tomorrow/Today," and some of the exhibits reflected that with retro-future themes.

There were also parties were music was played and people danced.

There were tour balloons people could see the grounds from above with.

Burners would drive around in mutant vehicles

And in the center of the grounds was "The Man," a huge effigy to be burned this Saturday.

Burn2 goes on until about Midnight on Sunday June 26. But the exhibits should be up for a couple more days.
