A Busy Halloween Weekend

Quite a bit happened this weekend. The PBC had it's seminar about Medicare and Medicaid. Burn2 had it's Thank You Party (pic above). "The AI Land" art exhibit had it's grand opening. Rosehaven would have it's Farewell Ball. Veterans Isle would have its monthly fundraiser. Making Strides against Breast Cancer had the last of their events.

And various locations would have Halloween events.

We'll get to these topics when time permits.

A Glance At The Warblood City Autumn Carnival

In Warblood City, their Autumn Carnival is going on. This family-friendly event is fun for just about everyone. There's rides, such as the ferris wheel. There are games, such as a few shooting galleries. There are performances. There's raffles in which you can get tickets for a chance at a nice prize. And there's the food.

Avatars of all shapes and sizes are welcome, within reason such as dressing decently. The area was decked out for fall, with some pumpkins and Halloween decorations.

I had a few words with one of the staff, Mina (scyredstrike Resident), who showed me around. There was a graveyard, which had zombies lumbering toward people. There was the kiddie food court. One area she was hesitant to go in as it was full of creepy dolls. There was also a Halloween walkthrough.

Cartoon of The Day: Breakdance Fail

Taken at a music event at Outshop Cancer. One guy was breakdancing. But I couldn't help but wonder that in years to come, in real life a guy wouldn't find it so easy after a while.

SL Renaissance Festival Concludes, I Pink I Can Continues

This weekend was the conclusion of the Renaissance Festival in Second Life. Among the events in the sims south of American Cancer Society was at 1PM Saturday when Jaycatt and Frogg performed at the Minstrel Stage. At the event, Jaycatt had a limited edition pet dragon on his shoulder, which people could get for a small donation.

Elsewhere at the Ren Fest, there were tournaments. I would witness a round of jousting. It was close, ending 5 to 4.

And of course there was the shopping, at numerous stores.

While the Ren Fest may be ending, "I Pink I Can" is still going on, in the sims north of American Cancer Society. On Sunday at 1PM was a stage play, "A Child’s Journey Through Cancer: The Musical." It would show "the story of a child’s journey through cancer told in music and dance. It takes us through the fear, joy and hope experienced in a cancer journey." It was done and directed by Patty Flow of "Roos With A Dream," with some of her teammates taking part, as well as other Relayers.

Both the Ren Fest and I Pink I Can raise money for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

More on I Pink I Can later. The event goes on to Sunday October 20.

The Renaissance Festival And I Pink I Can

This weekend, two events for Making Strides against Breast Cancer got started. One is the Renaissance Festival, taking place in a few sims south of American Cancer Society. The main stage is at Ren Fest 2, with live music events taking place.

There's also tournaments, such as archery and swordfighting, and I saw one fighter practicing.

There's also shopping, auctions, and the "Pillory the Lindens" event later this wee, Friday October 4 at 3PM SL time.

North of American Cancer Society in American Cancer Society2 and 3, there's a Halloween-themed event taking place, I Pink I Can. A few days ago we mentioned the shops. But there's also a hunt going on, the Pinkula Hunt (as if vampires weren't scary enough already).

There was also a "Halloween Dance Show" by "Kidz Dance" on Sunday.

Be sure to check out both events. The Renaissance Festival goes on to Sunday October 6, and I Pink I Can goes on to October 20.

Relay's Rennissance Festival Concludes, I Pink I Can Begins

Sunday October 1 was the final day of the Second Life Renaissance Festival. Among the events that day was the Royal Court Gala, which went from 1-4PM SL time.

Once a year, her Majesty, the Festival Queen commands  a royal party during the SL Renaissance Festival. She orders an extravagant festival and gala in your honor!  The Queen opens the Royal Court Gala to all in Second Life who wish to attend. Dance and merriment with grand entertainment shall be found indeed with DJs Ajay McDowell & Dar Zombie .The Royal Gala celebrates the tournament winners and participants, the merchants, villagers, shoppers, entertainers and all who wish to join in the festivities. Come explore the gleaming dance-floor and dance the afternoon away.

Numerous people showed up in their finer period clothing.

But as one major event was ending, another was starting. Sunday October 1st was also the start of I Pink I Can, taking place in American Cancer Society2 and IPIC.

Enjoy four weeks of live music, live DJs, camping, shopping, raffles, and more Halloween fun as we join forces to fight breast cancer! This benefit is for The American Cancer Society and all proceeds will be going to their Strides Campaign. The event runs from October 2nd through the 29th.

Dropping by, American Cancer Society had the look of a small city celebrating Halloween with it's decorations at dim lights. The kickoff party was at 12 Noon, attracting a large crowd, some who were looking a little on the spooky side themselves. One of the two performers on stage was wearing a dark mask that glowed neon eyes and mouth.

Both the Renaissance Festival and  I Pink I Can are part of Making Strides in Second Life, a Relay for Life in Second Life fundraiser which raises money for breast cancer research.

Pillory A Linden (Or Mole)

While the purpose for Relay for Life fundraising events is very serious, they are often very fun. And when the Lindens and Moles get involved, there's often more fun to be had. Last Friday was the start of the Second Life Renaissance Festival, held to benefit Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. One event that day was "Pillory A Linden (or Mole)." And many residents came by to see some of Linden Lab's finest get locked up and pelted with rotten fruit.

Sci-Fi Expo Opens

On Friday October 14, the Sci-Fi Expo officially started. This event supporting Making Strides Against Breast Cancer had it's opening ceremony at 10 AM SL time. Benjamin Brougham, the Lead Cordinator, greeted the crowd that was a mix of humans, furs, tinies, robots, and other avatars.

"Greetings everyone, and welcome to the 2022 SciFi Expo! I’d like to firstly thank our entire team of volunteers who have worked tirelessly, and constantly to make sure that we give you the best event we can each and every year. ... a massive thank you to all of our sponsors, without them the event would simply not be able to be put on at the same level, so thank you for your support. ...

"We are all here to fight back against cancer, specifically Breast Cancer. All of the proceeds raised during the Expo will continue to go to funding Breast Cancer treatment and research. Cancer is one of the most prevalent diseases in the world, it has likely had an impact on nearly every person alive. Whether it be you, a parent, a sibling, a child, a neighbor, a co-worker, cancer has no bounds, and it won’t stop until we are able to stop it.

"This year, the American Cancer Society estimates that there will be 1.9 million new cancer cases diagnosed, and over 600,000 thousand cancer related deaths in the United States alone. This is why we fight, why we celebrate all those who have survived, honor those who have sadly lost theirs, and continue to fight back against this faceless killer. If you are interested in learning more about the services the American Cancer Society has to offer, there is an information center along with the Memory crystal garden in Aperture with posters with information and links to resources. We are also connected directly to the American Cancer Society region, which has additional resources and contacts on hand.

"Are you or a loved one battling cancer? Find out how many ways the American Cancer Society is there to help. Visit cancer.org or call (US) 800-ACS-2345.

"Before we officially declare the 2022 SciFi Expo open, I would please ask that everyone join me in taking a brief moment of silence so that we may honor all those we may know who have survived, or sadly lost their battles.

"Thank you, I truly hope that you all will enjoy this year’s Expo. Without any further ado, I do hereby officially declare the 2022 SciFi Expo open!"

The event goes on to Sunday October 23. There will be music events, movie showings, shopping, discussion of things sci-fi, and the quest.

For more information on the Expo, check out the blog at: https://scifiexpo.org/
