A Fun Weekend

The weekend had some fun activities. With this being the 250th Fourth of July weekend, while some went to celebrations in both Washington DC and locally in real life, there were some inworld as well. Sometimes they were a day early, such as the one at Club Cutlass. Sadly, community Rita Mariner wasn't there, possibly due to power outages that took down some residents. But Jenni Greenfield took a break from her hiatus to appear for the red white and blue celebration.

Cutlass and other places would be closed on Saturday July 4, as were others. But some places had small parties, such as a the pool party at Raglan Shire's "Ool" (the running joke here is there should be no "p" in the "pool"). One resident showed up as a cloud of red, white, and blue fireworks.

Sunday July 5 had some events. At the Second Life Birthday grounds at SLB Delightful, there was a "Dream Machine Gala" at 12 Noon by Carolyn Handrick, which lasted for about three hours.

Also at Noon was the Anniversary Ball of Antiquity, at,it's Buckingham Palace. The community has been around for nineteen years. For the upper crust, the wearing of crowns and sashes was encouraged as for roleplay purposes this was a state event. The ladies and gentlemen danced, as well as chatted, and mused, about goings on. There was also a note of thanks from the Relay for Life for it's contributions to Team ACTS.

There was also a Homes For Our Troops fundraiser. But sorry to say real-life would drag me away from seeing it. There will be another one for today, Monday July 6.

Finally at 5:30 tonight was a small party at the Happy Vixen Beach Club with "Mister E" DJing the tunes. Hostess Kitacelia brought her own fireworks.

It was a great Fourth weekend.

Last Day For The Christmas Expo, Holidays of Hope Gala Today 2PM

It's been lots of holiday and winter fun. But today is the final day of events at the Christmas Expo. It's the last day to head to the music parties at the DJ stages, get a ticket at the raffles, take part in the auctions, and more. At at 2PM is the main event of the day, the Holidays of Hope Gala. Formal attire is requested at this event.

For those who missed out on the shopping, the sims should be up another day or two.

The event, which is separate from the Relay for Life, raises money for the American Cancer Society.

The Holidays of Hope Gala

Sunday December 8 was the last day of the Christmas Expo. Among the events was what could be described as the finale: the Holidays of Hope Gala. A number of avatars large and small dropped over, including two who were normally large dragons who went average size for the dance.

Musicians such as Coralie and Grace Loudon performed for the crowd, who danced away to the music while occasionally dropping in some Lindens into the donation kiosk.

There were other things to do, such as taking a ride on the railroad.

And one could check out the decorated houses. Here, One of the Moles demonstrated a need for practice in parking.

Some of the houses were decorated very colorfully.

With the end of the Expo, there will be no more entries in the auctions and contests, which will presumably announce winners soon, if they haven't already. It is noteable that in the past few years, Linden Lab has used the Expo to introduce a new brand of Linden Home. But this was not the case this year. Perhaps the Lindens are still brainstorming over a unique theme, or perhaps they've been busy fixing bugs.

The Expo is the last of the Relay's spinoff events for the year. But Relayers won't have to wait too long. In about a couple months in February, the official 2025 RFL season will begin.

Go Relay!

Relay's Rennissance Festival Concludes, I Pink I Can Begins

Sunday October 1 was the final day of the Second Life Renaissance Festival. Among the events that day was the Royal Court Gala, which went from 1-4PM SL time.

Once a year, her Majesty, the Festival Queen commands  a royal party during the SL Renaissance Festival. She orders an extravagant festival and gala in your honor!  The Queen opens the Royal Court Gala to all in Second Life who wish to attend. Dance and merriment with grand entertainment shall be found indeed with DJs Ajay McDowell & Dar Zombie .The Royal Gala celebrates the tournament winners and participants, the merchants, villagers, shoppers, entertainers and all who wish to join in the festivities. Come explore the gleaming dance-floor and dance the afternoon away.

Numerous people showed up in their finer period clothing.

But as one major event was ending, another was starting. Sunday October 1st was also the start of I Pink I Can, taking place in American Cancer Society2 and IPIC.

Enjoy four weeks of live music, live DJs, camping, shopping, raffles, and more Halloween fun as we join forces to fight breast cancer! This benefit is for The American Cancer Society and all proceeds will be going to their Strides Campaign. The event runs from October 2nd through the 29th.

Dropping by, American Cancer Society had the look of a small city celebrating Halloween with it's decorations at dim lights. The kickoff party was at 12 Noon, attracting a large crowd, some who were looking a little on the spooky side themselves. One of the two performers on stage was wearing a dark mask that glowed neon eyes and mouth.

Both the Renaissance Festival and  I Pink I Can are part of Making Strides in Second Life, a Relay for Life in Second Life fundraiser which raises money for breast cancer research.

Renaissance Festival Concludes

Sunday October 2 held the last events of the Renaissance Festival. Among them was the Royal Court Gala held high above the grounds.

Other events included a discussion on avatar complexity (above), classes, music events, raffles, and more. Not everything went perfectly. A planned fashion show was canceled due to the organizer being in an area in Florida where power was knocked out by Hurricane Ian.

Wildstar Beaumont would take a number of pictures and post them on his Flickr.

The event raised funds in support for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

Christmas Expo Events End, Over Six Million Lindens Raised

Yesterday, Sunday December 15, was the last day of events at the Relay for Life's Christmas Expo. Among the last events was the Holidays of Hope Gala, which took place in an area high over one of the Relay sims. The party took place from 1 to 6 PM SL time, with the music provided by Madelyn Majestic for the first two hours, and Trader Whiplash for the last two. The hour in the middle was for "special guests Satin and Erin."

The fundraising goal of the organizers was five million Linden dollars. The event ended up exceeding their expectations. After the last events,a total of  6,013,534 Lindens have been raised. This amount will likely go up a little as people continue to buy items from shops and stalls.

This was the tenth Christmas Expo event in Second Life. It is unknown how much longer the sims will remain open, save the permanent American Cancer Society. They may come down today, or remain open until tomorrow or Wednesday. The 2020 Relay season itself will take place in about a few months.

Press Release:Making Strides ABC Key Dates and Overview

Fight Breast Cancer with Strides Campaigns

It’s almost October - have you considered fighting breast cancer through your Second Life? The American Cancer Society is the global leader in the fight against all cancers, including breast cancer; and new fundraising tools are now available for anyone and everyone to show their support.

Fundraising tools are free and can be found on the Second Life Marketplace or by going to the Strides office on the American Cancer Society island.

The Strides Campaigns season is filling up with activities in several communities across the grid, but there can never be too many ways to fight breast cancer until we find the cure! Donations help fund initiatives including the Reach To Recovery program, a peer to peer program that matches trained breast cancer survivors with those recently diagnosed; raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of breast cancer and screenings; and funding research for better treatments and earlier diagnosis.

Therefore, we’re inviting as many communities across Second Life to take action now!

If you would like to plan your own breast cancer fundraiser, you’re encouraged to work within your community or group in Second Life to organize your own Strides Campaign. Make sure to let the American Cancer Society know about it by completing the ACS Calendar Event Submission Form so we can share it with others.
ACS in SL Event Calendar Submission Form: http://bit.ly/2mZ4RXz

All Strides Campaigns must use the official Strides fundraising tools that are provided by the American Cancer Society. Fundraising campaigns may include events, hunts, shows, sales, or simply putting out a donation kiosk at your club or store throughout the month of October.

If you want to fight breast cancer, but aren’t able to organize your own campaign, you can get involved with existing campaigns listed in the ACS in SL Events Calendar.

Relay For Life Christmas Expo Comes to An End

Sunday December 11 was the last day of the Relay for Life in Second Life's Christmas Expo. It was the last day for shopping at the stalls, pictures with Santa, and the last few music events.

Not all of the events took place in the Expo sims. The Second Life Cheerleader Squad hosted a live music event with a few musicians. Among them, Beth Odets, who showed up in a dress full of Stars of David, and had a Hanuka Menorah in her hair.

The high point of the event was the Holidays of Hope Ball, or gala. Formal attire was requested but not a hard requirement. The tunes for the event were provided by T-1 Radio and Trader Whiplash.

Numerous Relay personalities were there, such as Henning Lionheart and Cuddly Waffle (pictured above), Madonna Daehlie, Wildstar Beaumont, and others.

For those who want to see more pictures, check out the Relay for Life Flickr page, as well as Wildstar Beaumont's and Ishtarkiss's own pages.

RFL Christmas Expo Ends Today

After eleven days, the Relay for Life Christmas Expo ends today. Over the weekend, a number of events took place. One was an auction yesterday on Sunday in which about ninety avatars crowded into a single sim to take part. Another was the  Fifth Annual Holiday Of Hope Gala, pictured above, which took place from 4 to 8PM on Saturday December 13. Prizes were given out about every ten minutes to some lucky resident. There was also a raffle in which those paying 100L had a chance to win over 31,000 Lindens worth of gift cards. The winner was Sidney Spore.

The Newser's Gemma Cleanslate was a tireless volunteer throughout the event, helping out those attending, including fellow reporters who dropped in to cover. She would write down a few words in the Expo blog

This year I personally experienced how much the American Cancer Society is able to provide assistance to those who need support during treatment.  It is a pleasure to help raise funds for continued research and the help the ACS provides to individuals. I appreciate the Relay For Life so much more!

We'll write a little more about the Expo later this week, but for now enjoy the last day of the event, and the scenery before it vanishes away.
