International "Talk Like A Pirate Day" (Updated)

"Shiver me timbers! It be 'International Talk Like A Pirate Day' me hearties. So feel free ta speak th' way of th' brotherhood, dress up like a buccaneer or wench, or better yet, both. Check out yer groups fer pirate-themed goin's on. Arrrrrrrrr!"

Check out our article on "Pirate Speak."

*Update* While in Second Life, heard about a cool place in Bellisseria chat.

Michael (Bubblesort Triskaidekaphobia): This is outside Bellisseria, but I thought somebody here might know what this is... I found an island pirate cove, with a massive hoard of gold, off the NW coast of Satori The NW coast of Satori has a lot of cool islands to explore.  Anyway, when I click on the one treasure chest I got a gleaming pirates sword.  I got something similar when clicking on a treasure chest in some tunnels in a rainforest once... is this part of a bigger game that I don't know about, or is it just a cool thing the lindens leave lying around?  My notice said Naughty Mole gave it to me.

Checking out the island at Orlop (86,154,23), I found myself on an island with a huge skull in the center, filled with gold coins. Clicking on it, I got the golden sword that was being talked about, as well as a crown when clicking elsewhere. I got a script warning message stating the code was outdated. Oh well, it's an interesting momento for Pirate Day.

The island was created by the Moles of the  Department of Public Works.

"Talk Like A Pirate Day" Celebrated at the Happy Vixen

Yesterday, September 19, was "Talk Like a Pirate Day." Usually on the day the Newser celebrates with a chuckle. But we delayed making a deal out of it for a day out of respect to Breezes Babii. The Sunweaver community celebrated it at the Happy Vixen with a pirate party, with the high-energy DJ Tantari spinning the tunes. The 250 Linden prize was split between Tantari Kim, Amaya Hotshot, and Gnawtooth Greymoon.

Feel free to check our Pirate Speak and pirate-themed locations articles from earlier.

Ready for Halloween

By Gemma Cleanslate

It is early , I know, but I thought I would go check out some of the Halloween venues that are already established and actually have hunts going on! I visited Hipville’s 5th annual Halloween Hunt first. Here I found a heart and brain hunt. The sim has four areas to visit, the corn mazes with frightening creatures appearing. The asylum where you have to be very careful what you touch.  Cross the bridge to enter the witches’ forest where cauldrons of fire and worms await you. Click a globe and you can take some great pictures of yourself posing as part of the decor.

The walk to the graveyard is spooky with spirits rising before your eyes and on into the grave yard for more spirits about. I found some prizes as I went along but must return for more because they will be changing as time passes. You can get all the information you need to enjoy the region at the entrance. There are some great Halloween decorations for sale, including the corn mazes, dunking for apples, and more.Don’t forget to ride a broom!!! Lots of fun!

My next visit was to Heart of Darkness where there is so much going on too. A treasure chest hunt and a photography contest and  billboards are at the entrance so click them for information you will need. Wonderful sim to roam and search for treasure chests. Be sure to look up, down, under and over and behind. I have to go back for more! I found about 18 already but there are many many more~ up to 40!

It is a pirate town so there are many pirate skeletons hanging around the town and on the half sunken boats.Try out the interactive poses and hope to save your life! Some of the prizes are from our beloved Aley which are always nice to find. For the photography contest read the notecard and visit the store for a free outfit and so many cute outfits for sale too. Use the region windlight for effect and beware of everything! This will be open until November 4.

"Talk Like a Pirate Day" at the Sunweaver Clubs

The Sunweaver/Angel community, the neighbors of the SL Newser office, loves a good party. And "Talk Like a Pirate Day" provided a good excuse for some swashbuckling fun. So we donned some buccaneer outfits, and had a couple of pirate parties.

ON Thursday September 17, the Happy Vixen had a double event from 6-8, and 8-10PM. DJ Rose provided a selection of pirate tunage.

Saturday was September, September 19, "Pirate Day," and so Club Cutlass made it's theme for the evening pirates of course. DJ Tantari provided the swashbuckling tunes for the night, some familiar, some not played as often. The larger of the two parties, there were quite a few outfits (including a cutlass or two), lots of "Arrrr matey" and other pirate chatter, and the event included a sharkgirl, and a "pie rat" or two.

Shockwave Yareach and Dawnmarie were the winners in the costume for the best outfits. Tantari ended her set with the familiar "Pirates of the Carribean" theme. Of course real pirates are and have been far more vicious than their portrayal in Hollywood movies. But that doesn't stop the residents of Second Life from having some good clean fun.

Happy "Talk Like a Pirate Day"

Arrrr! Shiver me timbers! Tis be "Talk Like A Pirate Day." An' time ta takes a look at a few pirate-themed places in Second Life. First, if ye wish ta catch up on yer pirate speak, be checkin' our old article on th' lingo.

In the past, we wrote about a detailed pirate themed area "Morgan Straits." It's no longer around, but there are other places one can engage in a little swashbuckling. One place you'll be wanting to check out is the Blake Sea. This is a HUGE area of water and islands east of the Second Life mainland. To join up with the Blake Sea Battles Group, head to Blake Diego (215, 45, 36)

There, one can get information about the group, in addition to a couple freebie craft, and one demo of a small armed ship. You can also find schedules of events, such as the sea battles.

Typing "Pirates" in Second Life search will get you a number of adult-themed roleplay areas. Near the top of the list were a couple that weren't, Trade Winds (51, 139, 22), and Pirates Destiny at Nassau Stronghold (126, 119, 25). But these places may not be friendly to nonhuman avatars, except merfolk. They have some freebie items, such as clothes, swimmer HUDs, and a merchant at Trade Winds had a freebie vessel, but while they may not mind a furry tourist walking around, being welcome in a combat RP may be another matter. This is too bad, as going about Trade Winds, there was some good scenery. But looking at Blake Sea Battles Group, the charter doesn't say anything about problems with anyone having a tail.

Besides these places, no doubt there will be a lot of venues holding pirate themed events, such as Club Cutlass near the SL Newser office. But to enjoy pirate-themed fun all year round, the best place in terms of volume of water and welcoming of one's looks is the Blake Sea.

Happy Talk Like a Pirate Day Mateys.

"Talk Like a Pirate Day" Parties in Second Life

"Arrrrrr!", "Shiver me timbers!", "I'll have ye keelhauled!", and other piratey phrases abounded last Friday on "International Talk Like a Pirate Day," both in real life and Second Life. But in Second Life, it was much easier to put on a buccaneer's outfit. And in places like Steelhead and the Sunweaver's Club Cutlass, there was some Jolly Roger fun as both places held a couple great pirate parties.

See more in Events.

Happy Talk Like a Pirate Day!

"Arrrrr, tis be 'International Talk Like a Pirate Day.'So ye best be gettin yer lingo o' th' Brootherhood (2013 article), git yer swabbie outfits on, an' head out t' sea in places like Morgan Straits. What say ye? Ya don' 'ave a ship? Well shiver me timbers, ya landlubbers, tis be yer lucky day. Th' Black Hole Shipyard be havin' some fine boats fer the low price o' completely free!"

"Tis 'Privateer Minerva' an' three other vessels (the difference between a privateer and o' run o' the mill pirate me hearties tis be privateers be gettin' paid ta be pirates) made by Dagger Ulrik be up fer grabs. An' these ships naught be jess fer show. These beauties can fight, either one on one, or in pitched battles. Ye can steer them, an' ye can shoot th' cannons. Ye kinn do both by yerself, or git a first made as th' gunner. So head t' th' Marketplace and get ye choice o' vessels."

https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/138717

"Be quick about it! No tellin' how long these ships be up fer grabs fer nowt."
