Press Release: Lighted Boat Parade 2024

BAY CITY TO HOST ANNUAL BOAT PARADE

Event will include skate party

BAY CITY, SL (13 December, 2024) - Bay City will show their holiday spirit with a lighted boat parade launching from the New Port Yacht Club and traveling the waters to Uccie's Lighthouse, then north to the Bay City Fairgrounds. The event will kick off at 7:00 p.m. on the 19th, and will finish with a skate party in the Fairgrounds, with music provided by local musical celebrity DJ GoSpeed of KONA Stream.

Participants from across the grid are welcome to join in: many mesh boats come with party lights and other options, but if the boat doesn't have lights, we'd recommend adding some, either by editing them onto the boat, or creating a lighting rig you can wear in advance. Or you may visit Uccie's Lighthouse in Luna Palisades or the Bay City Fairgrounds in North Channel to view the parade. Bleachers are provided at the latter location

Donation bins will also be present at the event, with all proceeds going to Child's Play Charity. Child's Play is a 501c3 non profit organization offers online communities such as ours an opportunity to help seriously ill children around the globe during their hospital stays with the purchase of games and gaming equipment. Thus far in the 2024 season, Bay City has raised L$241112 for the charity.

Bay City is a mainland community, developed by Linden Lab® and home to the Bay City Alliance. The Bay City Alliance was founded in 2008 to promote the Bay City regions of Second Life and provide a venue for Bay City Residents and other interested parties to socialize and network. It is now the largest group for Residents of Bay City.

For more information, or to participate in the event, please contact Marianne McCann.

Rez Zones For Boats in Bellisseria

Among the various activities in Second Life one can do is boating, whether it's a small sailboat or a big yacht. But finding a place to place one from your inventory isn't always easy. Fortunately, the other day in Bellisseria group chat, Abnor Mole offered a list of locations.

[11:58] Abnor Mole: If you're looking for a place to rez a big boat... here are a few:

[11:58] Abnor Mole: SSPShell Yeah (118,116,26)

Sloop John B (58,91,26)

Buffalo Springs (155,94,26

Running Bear (221,105,26)

SSPRum Tug (106,74,26)

Treeowatoor (33,28,26)

Bridle Path (208,38,26)

Itsa Fluke (124,162,26)

BelliHub (167,168,26)

Pegleg Channel (193,114,26)

Merrymount (33,54,26)

Salmon Eddy (154,129,26)

Eyrie (131,227,26)

Oukranos (126,124,26)

Port Cullis (124,129,26)

Baxby Gulf (255,53,26)

[11:58] Abnor Mole: Coral Waters (132,93,26)

Norse Auk (151,93,26)

Whiskey Bay (171,22,26) - next to Fairgrounds

Light of Aurelia (194,125,26)

Sunrise Pines (227,156,26)

Maiden Rock (81,170,26)

[12:01] Abnor Mole: Rez zones for large boats

Checking one out, I found one happened to be right over the water, and I fell in. So be prepared for a possible bath on heading over. Other residents reccomended slightly different locations, such as Freddie Harrington (Freddie Venus) "We just rezzed a big yacht here also SSPRum Tug (106,87,22)."

It should be noted that notecards of boat, car, and airplane rezzing places around the Linden Home continent are occasionally posted in the Bellisseria group.

Happy boating

It Came From Bellisseria Chat: Carrot Caper By Boat

Another funny picture from Traci Quandry-Marabana (Traci Quandry). This one shows her raccoon minions loading her boat with carrots, one having fallen into the drink, and a couple are hauling someone to the boat as well, suggesting the veggies weren't exactly obtained via a purchase.

She commented, "Well  just did one  with a boat. I call this 'Stop leave the cop, take the carrots.'" She would later say something about wondering if anyone got "the semi-movie reference." Exactly how the raccoons immobilized the policeman is unknown.

It Came From Bellisseria Chat: Raccoon Abduction

From Traci Quandry-Marabana (Traci Quandry), who posted this in the Bellisseria group chat, "Things that happen when ya fish in Belli." One looked at the image, saying "Poor raccoon."

Scenes From The Relay Track

Among the various camps, there is one item that two share. The Sunbeamer camp at RFL Advocacy and the "Roos With A Dream" one at  RFL Awareness share some water. This boat straddles both campsites, and has a flag at each end. As the teams have had a number of joint events, it does symbolize the cooperation between the two.

"Relay Streaming Media" at RFL Acceptance had a Hope Lodge attached to a balloon, like in the movie "Up."

This year's theme of "Hope Floats" got all kinds of interpretations by the teams. Usually it was boats or balloons. Fiona Fei's designer sim used the song "Clouds." Then there was the "Meli's Maniacs" team. They had a 50's style diner, with ice cream floats, at their camp at RFL Hope.

The camps will be intact until Thursday morning, which is takedown day. The "Flood Party" should be sometime on Wednesday, tomorrow.

Go Relay!

Announcement: Mole v Residents Boat Race For The Bellisserian 3rd Anniversary.

Date and time - Saturday April 16th 11:00 am SLT to Noon SLT

Identical 'Zodiac' boats will be provided for each team member (but in different liveries)

Course Route -

Course starts and ends at the Whiskey Bay Fairgrounds Pier

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Whiskey%20Bay/172/30/22

If you crash or lose your boat please restart at the last rez point you passed.

Racers leave in batches of 2 to 4 to avoid all crashing as they enter the same region at once.

Points are given to the team by placement. First is 1 point, 2nd is 2, 3rd 3, and so on. So the team with the LOWEST points win. We'll decide on the day the finer points of the scoring system depending on numbers involved (eg DNFs)

At full pelt you can do the course in 20 minutes or so. Race conditions are different. But there should be plenty of time.

Stewards are requested too, you'll be assigned to a key way mark.

Scenes From the Belliseeria Valentine's Cruise

Last Saturday was the "Valentine's Day Love Boat  Cruise" in the Linden Home continent area of Bellisseria. Instead of taking place on an ocean liner, residents were invited to appear at a certain place, rezz their own boat, and sail down a course to the Bellisseria Fairgrounds. Among those taking part was yours truly (in a Cupid look for the occasion). So how did the cruise go?

Announcement: 3rd Annual Rosehaven Regatta!

Come enjoy a fun-filled afternoon along the waters of Laudanum in Rosehaven for a proper Regatta!
August 30th, 1-3 pm SLT, at Dragonlight Plaza, Realm of Rosehaven, hosted by Chateau Trikassi.
In addition to the rides, games, food, dancing, there will once again be the Anything that Floats but is NOT a Boat contest.  Prizes will be awarded for creativity.  Rules are simple…the craft cannot be a boat of any kind (ship, submarine, row boat, speedboat, canoe, etc)…but must be a homemade thing-a-ma-jig that floats… sailing and steering scripts are allowed in order to parade on the water.
It wouldn’t be a Regatta without crew racing!  Beginning this year, the Rosehaven Regatta will feature the Race for the Golden Oars!

Teams from around the Steamlands are invited to enter.  Each 2-person team will have the chance to compete for the coveted Golden Oars Trophy.  This trophy will be awarded to the winning team. The trophy will remain for display at the winning team’s region for one year.  The trophy will move to the next winner’s region the following year, and so on.  The trophy will be engraved each year with the winning team name.  This will be much like the America’s Cup.

Each team is comprised of two people (team must be from same region).  Should a community or estate initially sign up with several teams, heat races will be held during the week of August 24th through 28th, to determine their one team competing at the Regatta. Scull boats will be available for practice at Dragonlight Plaza in Laudanum, Rosehaven, beginning August 21st.  Please sign up via Vic Mornington or Lady Oriella Charik by no later than Sunday, August 24th.  No last-minute teams will be allowed.  It is highly recommended all teams practice with the scull boats.  The boats have a synchronized rowing anim…so you and your teammate need to work together to control the boat.
Countess Cassie Eldemar has made the Golden Oars trophy, and it’s QUITE impressive! Rora Stytwytch, from RFL ACTS team, is making each official team special racing shirts for the rowers.  If enough crew teams sign up, there will be a special pre-Regatta dinner held at Flock and Feather Tavern in Reverie, Rosehaven for the competing teams and their supporters on August 29th.  Plan on some good-natured taunting and possibly a food fight!

Doctor Holocluck Henly will provide wonderful music for the day.

Mark your calendars!  See you all at the Regatta!

Announcement: Bellisseria Cinco De Mayo Boat Parade

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with the Bellisseria Parade!

The Bellisseria Relay teams are celebrating Cinco de Mayo this weekend, May 2nd-5th. The celebration will include a Boat Parade that will leave the Fairground docks at noon on May 3rd.  You are all invited to bring your boat and join the parade. We're sending early notice so you have time to decorate your boat, too. Decorate it for Relay or Cinco de Mayo or both. Please plan to join us at noon on Saturday at the Fairgrounds, we look forward to seeing you!

The plan:

The First Anniversary boat parade was so much fun that we thought we'd do it again!

We will arrive before noon at the docks at Whiskey Bay.  Rez boats there and then move over to the west into Bellisseria Bay to line up, boats pointed south.

From there we'll cruise on south in parade line (as best we can with the constraints imposed by persnickety simulators, boats, and whatever else the Fates have in store.

The parade route takes on a tour around The Pickle!  The whole trip takes about 45 minutes.

For more information, and a notecard, contact Camden McAndrews and/or join the Bellisseria Parade Group.

The Bellisseria Anniversary Rock and Sail

This weekend from Friday to Sunday, the first anniversary of the opening of the Linden Home continent of Bellisseria. On all three days, there were music and dance parties in the Fairgrounds. But on Friday and Saturday, there was also the "Rock and Sail." This was a boat parade from a spot on the middle of the western coast to the Fairground island. Gemma decided to take part in the Friday parade, which would be the longest journey she ever made by water.

Noon slt -2pm slt

Realm of Rosehaven, Village of Laudanum

Dress code: Within the Rosehaven theme...fantasy, late Victorian, Steampunk, to Edwardian appreciated...or regatta appropriate apparel from other eras as long as not too revealing.

All along the boardwalk will be dancing and music, provided by Holocluck Henly, games, rides, foods, prizes...a great summer event!

See you there!

* * * * *
The 2nd Annual Rosehaven Regatta is August 18th, 2019 from Noon (12pm) SLT – 2pm SLT.
Once again, we will be featuring the ANYTHING THAT FLOATS…BUT IS NOT A BOAT contest and water race!  Hope you all are excited!!

Get your thinking caps on and create something fantastical…that is NOT A BOAT, but it does float!  The purpose of this event is to showcase your ability to design and build a water craft/vessel to travel in the water.  You must also be able to ride your floating invention.

Please let Duchess Liz Wilner or Oriella Charik know if you wish to enter.  All entries must be received and approved by no later than 11am SLT, August 18th for announcing at the Regatta. Prizes will be awarded for the ‘Most Unique’ and the ‘Fastest Vessel’.

This is a timed race. Depending on the number of participants, crews and their crafts will be lined up at the start/finish line, proceed down the canal to a designated turning point, go around a marker buoy, and proceed up canal back to start/finish line. There will be an official at the turn around the buoy to verify all contestants properly negotiate the turn around.

Rules: You may NOT utilize a commercially designed or distributed watercraft. Powerboats, canoes, kayaks, rafts, skiffs or other commercially designed craft will NOT qualify. Your vessel must NOT be commercially designed or built to travel on water. You cannot disguise an actual boat or ship for your craft. The vessels must be powered by Avi or wind energy; no swimmers pulling, pushing or propelling your craft.  NO engines, motors, trolling motors will be accepted. Sails, paddles and oars are acceptable. The decision of the judges is final. You must pick up the pieces if the vessel disintegrates in water or on land.

Hint: last year, for instance, we had a cupcake that floated and steered!

Scenes From Second Life: GTFO Game Tugging Along

Remember the "Get The Freight Out" game that was a big hit last year? To those who don't know, it's a HUD-based game in which one uses a compatible vehicle to ship frieght over land, sea, or air from one destination in Second Life to another. For successful runs, players get experience points to level up as well as in-game cash. While the points and cash are certainly an incentive, for many players however, the best thing is the journey as they see many places in Second Life they otherwise wouldn't, some they've never seen before.

Among those who've been playing the game is co-manger of the Happy Vixen, Skylark "Snowbuns" Lefavre. She prefers shipping by sea. In the past, she used some sleek and fast watercraft. So it was something of a surprise when she recently got this tugboat for the game, which comes with a barge that it can push around. She and her first mate Nikkita invited me to sit around on one of their shipping runs.

Compared to some of the other boats they've used, the tug isn't very sleek or glamorous. And it's steering can be very slow. But it gets the job done. On this run, Snowy and Nikki made their run in time and got their in-game currency.

Along the way, they saw another tugboat going about. It was the same kind as theirs, with the barge in operation. So it seems not only does the game still have some other players, but this particular water craft seems to "tug" the interest of others.
