Raglan Shire Pre-Valentine’s Day Party

Second Life had quite a few Valentine's Day events.  Among them was at the tiny community of Raglan Shire in it's Gazebo. Reporter Netera Landar went there, and saw a variety of the little folk, taking a number of pictures.

Willows Pre-Show For Valentine’s Day

A little over a week ago, Netera Landar dropped by a place called The Willows, which was having a Valentines Day "pre-show." The place was decorated fancy, and there were a variety of people and outfits at the event. As the owner would say, “We never know who (or what) will come through the door.”

A Busy Valentines Weekend

Things were busy this weekend with the back to back Valentines Day events organized by Linden Lab, the "Love Train" and the "Hug A Linden/Dunk A Linden." There were also a few other V-Day events the Newser was able to catch.

There were a few shenanigans going on, which we'll get into once there's a little more time to write down what was seen.

EOTB: New Valentine-Themed Last Names

Several days ago, Linden Lab would announce on the official Second Life blog a list of new options for account last names. With the month being February, they were Valentines Day themed.

... we have just released new last names for the season! The following Valentine-themed names are only available for a limited time:

The list of names are as follows: Tender, Velvetpaw, Lovebug, Pookie, Lust, Amorous, Heartsy, Cuddleclaw, Latido, Luvmore, Sweetums, Snacc, Huggles, and Cherub.

Dropping in some personal comments, "Latido" I had to look up, and it's Spanish for "beat" or "regular beat." It might be alluding to a heartbeat. "Cuddleclaw" and "Velvetpaw" sound like something for a female furry or dragon. Having "Snacc" for a surname, one might want to be careful around larger dragon avatars.

The Lab would say the names are "seasonal and may return around this time next year." It would also invite people to make suggestions for new surnames (on this Google doc).

As a reminder, changing your account name is not free, but costs from $49.99 to $14.99 USD (FAQ).

SL Video: "Trustfall"

From LorDefiance Valentines Day, Feb 14, 2023, "A little bit of everything fell into place for this one. I thought about making a quick video to share the Isle of View with friends that aren't on Second Life. Maybe it would be a fun way to showcase Wing too, since my avatar has come a long way since I joined SL in 2008. Then I stumbled across P!NK's TRUSTFALL and I knew I had to do something with this absolute bop! So yeah, one week later it's done. Enjoy the fireworks, and Happy Valentine's Day :)"

Warning: some profanity

Linden Valentines Day Events

Valentines Day is tomorrow, and while no doubt there will be many clubs and other places having events with the theme, Linden Lab is offering two of their own.

The first one takes place on Bellisseria's railroad, the "Valentine's Love Train," also called the "Love Train Trollies." The trains start at the WelcomeHubLindenHomes sim, ending at Kersplash, and go from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM SL time.

Our special Bellisseria Valentine's Event returns this year. "Love Train Trolleys" operated by our own LDPW Moles depart from the station on the Welcome Hub every few minutes on February 14th from 11:30am - 12:30pm PT. The 30 minute ride ends with a teleporter that will take residents directly to Dunk & Hug a Linden or Mole, but residents can hop on at any point as the trolleys go by! Learn more about it from Patch Linden's forum post with a map of the route.

The second one is a long-lasting Linden Lab tradition, the "Hug a Linden, Dunk a Linden." You get to hung one of Linden Labs finest, have one take a plunge in a tank of water, or both. This takes place from 1 to 3PM SL time at two locations on the four sim Isle of View.

Are you feeling “some kind of way” about the Lindens or Moles? Show your love (or friendly aggression) for the makers of Second Life at our annual Dunk & Hug a Linden or Mole Event, held this year on February 14th from 1pm to 3pm PT at the Isle of View. Come early for some fun conversations and plenty of soaked Lindens!

Keep an eye out for more Valentines themed fun.

Isle of View, Linden Lab's Valentine Area, Now Open

A few days ago in the official Second Life blog, Linden Lab announce that their Valentine-themed island, the Isle of View would soon be open. On Monday February 3, it was open to residents to drop by.

The Isle of View, which opens on February 3rd, is our annual tribute to all things romantic via four regions filled with forested walks, cozy nooks for cuddling, and romantic swan boat rides.

Visit one of the Love Pavilion gift kiosks to browse through a variety of gift selections that you can send to your friends and loved ones on Valentine’s Day. The selection of gifts includes heart lollipops and balloons, an adorable teddy bear, a chocolate box with rings, cutesy cupcakes, love lanterns, and, of course, romantic roses. We even have a special Plushie you can have sent to your special Valentine or just get one for yourself! To select and send your free gifts, follow the directions on the sign adjacent to the kiosk. Or alternatively, click on the help buttons on the gift kiosks.

As mentioned, there are gift kiosks to get a special someone a romantic gift, swan boat rides, places for a couple to snuggle, and some great romance-themed scenery.

It should be noted that on Valentines Day itself, Friday February 14, from 1 to 3 PM will be the "Hug a Linden" and "Dunk A Linden" events, your chance to show some of Linden Lab's finest either a little appreciation or some minor mischief.

Applications Open For Valentines Day Shop And Hop (Until January 3)

It may be New Year's Day. But already Linden Lab is getting ready for Valentine's Day. And those interested in taking part in this event have only a few more days to sign up for it.

A few days ago, Linden Lab would announce they were accepting applications for their next Shop and Hop event. Taking place from January 31 to February 18, the event will require a number of merchants taking part. So the Lab is inviting them.

As we prepare for an extra special Valentine’s event, we're on the lookout for enthusiastic Merchants ready to join the celebration of love, which runs from January 31st through February 18th, 2025.

We are looking for Merchants willing to offer a discount on their items (at least 20% off) and provide a new non-exclusive gift to shoppers.

At the announcement says, merchants taking part will need to have their items 20% off or more. They will also have to have at least one new gift , free and available to shoppers regardless of any group they're in. All items up for sale also need to be appropriate for a moderate-rated sim. Those interested need to fill out a form (here), and no later than Friday January 3.

For more information, check the Linden blog (here).

SL Video: "Zada's Adventures - Valentines Day 2024 ... Love-Train Tide & Isle of View"

From Zada Bury on March 9, "Annual event happening Second Life ™ ... the "Hug and Dunk a Linden" event at the Valentines Day (Hint: That is the 14th February). Read more about the this years event here ... at "show more". As like last year, this one was start with a "Love Train" ride and also the other activities was following the 'classic" (but good!) plot from the last year. In this year, the starting point was at the "Bellisseria Welcome Hub" and all trains was follow the same lane. I was this time not that early there, but I wasn't have problems to enter the Sim. I am not sure, if the Lindens was change the Sim to an 'Event Sim', which could carry 170 people ... or just turned up a regular Sim up to 100 people, as like an island-Sim. The way, how smooth it was running for me, I would guess on an event-Sim. At the begin there was surely some known faces, but less contacts. From the Lindens, I was foremost recognize Wendi ... she was look perfect fitting in and seems to rezzing the trains. Beside was also a larger number of Moles. The trolleys was appear to run this year on an automatic mode, while last year the Mole was operate them. The one, I jumped on was have at least no operator. The half of the ride, the 'Drivers of SL'-group was done at the last weekends Grid Drive. The full ride was take around 40 minutes for me and there was not really unexpected happenings. About the automatic operation ... and the more or less people on a trolley ... the speed was for some a bit different (more people causes a more lag on Sim-crossings and on the Sim, so the individual Trolley was been more slow). At some point it was come to a "clashing" of out trolley with an other one and we was continue "merged", but as the trains was phantom, nothing bad happening. At the end of the train-ride was a TP to the "Isla of View" set up. Sadly that was end in a crash about a disconnect for me. The "Isle of View" was also unchanged ... and still good. There was a lot know and unknown faces ... err ... avatars ... to see. I was feel, this year, more Lindens was there, than the last year. This year was no spanking of Patch Linden ... but I was hugging with some of the Lindens, I seen for a while now - and even if I am not such fan of the "hugging" stuff. Oatmeal was this year also fun to pose with ... surely beside others, too."

Valentine's Day - Love in the Air at Love & Harmony Jazz Romantic

Much happened in Second Life on Valentines Day. There was the Love Train and Hug A Linden (which none of the Newser reporters were able to attend, maybe next year). But there were also many other events across the various venues of Second Life. Among them was Love and Harmony Jazz Romantic.  Dancerina Starlight stopped by there, where owner and manager Orchide Delmar held a special Valentines Day party.

Valentine's Day

Taken at Calas Galadhon Park

It's Valentines Day (or happy stick it to singles day depending on your point of view), the day in which couples give one another small tokens of their affection, or find other ways to demonstrate it to one another. The Shop and Hop is open for those looking to get a present for someone. Or you can take your virtual honey to a romantic spot to cuddle, or perhaps a themed event to dance to. And there's also the "Hug A Linden/Dunk A Linden" today at the Isle of View.

Happy V-Day for couples and singles (you can still get lucky, find a nice new friend of the opposite sex, or both).

BREAKING NEWS: "Dunk A Linden" To Become "Spank A Linden"

Update: April Fool!

Remember at the "Hug-A-Linden/Dunk-A-Linden" event in which Patch Linden got talked into wearing a "spanker" and got his behind swatted? Well, it seems the feedback was so positive, Linden Lab has decided to do away with the dunking booths next year, and instead residents will be able to take a paddle to Linden Lab's finest.

After numerous requests by the residents for the impromptu spanking event at the Valentine's Day event on Isle of View to be somehow made part of the event next year, we at the Lab talked about it and decided to give it a try. Next year, several Lindens at the Isle will be wearing "spankers." While of course we prefer the hugs, we at the Lab aim to please, even it it means some of you will be aiming for our backsides.

So it seems starting next year, the blue dots will be a little red on the behind.

The "Love Train" And "Hug A Linden/Dunk A Linden/Spank A Linden"

Valentines Day in Second Life has a number of events, including the one that the Lab has had for several years: "Hug A Linden/Dunk A Linden." But this time was a little different. They also had the "Love Train" event on the tracks of western Bellisseria. And Hug & Dunk A Linden had a special, and unplanned, twist as well

Valentines Day

It's Valentine's Day, the day for couples to celebrate for love, and for the single but hopeful to look for a date (and for the permanently single to spent time in shooting game marathons). Be sure to be on the lookout for special events around the grid, such as the "Love Train" at Bellisseria, and the "Hug a Linden/Dunk a Linden" at the Isle of View. Clubs such as the Happy Vixen have themed events today, bu by all means be on the lookout for others.

And be wary of cupids who may want to shoot arrows in your behinds.

EOTB: "Love Made in Second Life - Thundr"

Linden Lab, with the help of Draxtor Despress, has been doing a few doing a few "Love Made in Second Life" posts for Valentine's Day season. A few days ago, they had something about the Thundr virtual dating app.

Thundr is a community project created by two friends who have been a part of Second Life since 2007 and wanted to offer a fun, safe, and easy-going dating experience for its Residents.

Since its public launch on February 10th, 2022, Thundr has quickly become a popular choice for virtual daters with almost 7000 activated users and 63000 matches.

The app is built from scratch, offering unique features such as the ability to chat with gifs and emojis. User privacy and security are top priorities, with filters such as gender and age to help find the right match. In addition to its dating features, Thundr users can also use the app to advertise their businesses and activities with modern video ads. ...

EOTB: "Love Made in Second Life - Meet Ajay and Syn"

A few days ago in the Linden blog, the Lab got into the Valentines Day spirit with doing a few "Love Made in Second Life" posts, starting with "Meet Ajay and Syn."

Ajay McDowwll and Synapse Zabelin met in Second Life, fell in love, moved together in the physical realm - he from Mississippi, she from Florida where they still are today-  got married and, spoiler alert: Ajay and Syn are still together today, after almost 16 years! The story begins on the original Help Island, where Syn volunteered when newbie Ajay dropped in. They struck up a friendship and the rest, as they say, is Second Life history! We asked them more about the history of their relationship.

EOTB: New Valentine-Themed Last Names (Limited Edition)

Besides listing some Valentine's Day events in the official Second Life blog the other day, Linden Lab also announced some Valentine's Day-themed last names.

The following valentine-themed names are only available for a limited time:
Snugglepuff
Allure
Passion
Heartstrings
Aphrodite
Adonis
Waifu
Husbando

Taking a look at this list, it's safe to say some of these names will be used more than others, especially for men. Hard to imagine a guy renaming himself "Snugglepuff."

The Lab stated these surnames "are seasonal and may come back around this time next year, for a limited time."

"Love Train" And Other Valentines Events Planned By Linden Lab

Besides the Valentine's "Shop and Hop," Linden Lab posted about a few other Valentines'-themed events last week. Among them a new one, the "Love Train."

On Tuesday, February 14 starting at 12pm SLT, join us on the Love Train!

The Moles will be running trolleys all along the Eastern Loop of the Bellisseria Railway. The primary departure point is Muehlenbach Station, but residents can hop on from any station as the trolleys go by. The trolleys will run in both directions along the route, stopping in Allrutti Station just outside of Newbank for residents to disembark.

The Lab didn't say how big the train was, though a trolley ride some weeks ago was about to hold about twenty avatars. Residents were invited to rezz their own trains for the occasion, though were asked to keep any decorations in theme with the holiday and keep things PG (and keep out political messages).

The Isle of View is back. It's a nice romantic setting for a guy to take a girl to. On Tuesday February 14 is the main event of the place, "Hug A Linden/Dunk A Linden."

A few pictures of last year's Hug A Linden/Dunk A Linden can be found here (along with other V-Day happenings).
