EOTB: New Valentine-Themed Last Names

Several days ago, Linden Lab would announce on the official Second Life blog a list of new options for account last names. With the month being February, they were Valentines Day themed.

... we have just released new last names for the season! The following Valentine-themed names are only available for a limited time:

The list of names are as follows: Tender, Velvetpaw, Lovebug, Pookie, Lust, Amorous, Heartsy, Cuddleclaw, Latido, Luvmore, Sweetums, Snacc, Huggles, and Cherub.

Dropping in some personal comments, "Latido" I had to look up, and it's Spanish for "beat" or "regular beat." It might be alluding to a heartbeat. "Cuddleclaw" and "Velvetpaw" sound like something for a female furry or dragon. Having "Snacc" for a surname, one might want to be careful around larger dragon avatars.

The Lab would say the names are "seasonal and may return around this time next year." It would also invite people to make suggestions for new surnames (on this Google doc).

As a reminder, changing your account name is not free, but costs from $49.99 to $14.99 USD (FAQ).

For those waiting for new last names, good news. A few days ago, Linden Lab announced in the official blog they had some new options for those wanting to change their account name. And for those who are fans of the spooky season, more good news, these are Halloween themed.

Thank you to everyone who continues to submit ideas through our Last Name Suggestion Form. The new account last names are Potion, Misery, Strange, Goblin, Zombie, Monster, Ghoul, Spooky, and Nightfang.

"Potion" could be an interesting name for someone who fancies themself a chemist or mad scientist. "Strange" could be useful for someone who wants an aura of mystery around them. "Nightfang" might see some use among residents in wolf avatars.

Expect the names to change soon after Halloween.

New Last Names Available

About a month after Linden Lab offered some new options for last names in theme with the Second Life Birthday, a few days, they delivered a "New batch of (the) most wanted last names."

Thank you again to everyone who continues to submit ideas through our Last Name Suggestion Form. For this update, we once again gave extra attention to the names that have been requested most frequently. If you’ve shared your favorite last name with us, there’s a good chance it’s now available!

Several older options have been removed, and we’ve added the following highly requested new ones:

The new last names are Belmonte, Rascal, Baby, Sakura, Lit, Bly, Neon, Goat, Bubbles, and Aurora.

Sakura is a Japanese name, meaning "cherry blossom." While "goat" has meant a farm animal that gives small amounts of milk, to call someone "the goat," is to say they're the best they're is at what they do, the "greatest of all time."

As a reminder, changing last names is not free, but costs from $49.99 to $14.99 USD, depending on the resident's account. Check the FAQ page for more information.

EOTB: New Last Names

On the official blog a few days ago, Linden Lab announced a list of new last names available for residents to change to.

Happy Autumn! Thank you for all the suggestions sent in for future last names through our Last Name Suggestion Form

Today we are doing another big last name refresh by removing some of the older last name options and adding the following new ones from your suggestions:

The new last names are Mouse, Victis, Wheel, Pudding, Demure, Nightwish, Fledermaus, Whisper, Pooh, and Velvet.

Of Demure, it may or may not be because of a popular meme going around on social media, "very mindful, very demure." Of "Mouse," that may get the attention of some who prefer small, or furry avatars.  "Fledermaus" might get the attention of bat fans.

EOTB: New Valentine-Themed Last Names

As part of the Valentines Day celebrations, Linden Lab announced a few days ago there will be some new account surnames in theme for the time.

... we have just released new last names for the season! The following Valentine-themed names are only available for a limited time

The new last names are Bae, Flirt, Lovelace, Lovingood, Simp, Snuggler, Sweetheart, and Trueheart.

Some of the names may be more or less popular than others. "Bae" meaning "before all else" is a slang term popular among the young, but not so much among those well into adulthood. Calling someone a "simp" isn't exactly a complement. "Trueheart" may get some attention as it's been the last name of some characters, notably some female love interests, in stories.

As a reminder, changing one's account name takes a one-time fee to Linden Lab.

There were other things mentioned in the blog, such as the upcoming Hug Or Dunk A Linden event, the Love Train, and the Valentine Shop and Hop

EOTB: New Last Names Available

It's no surprise that the limited edition Christmas/Winter last names for residents last month would be gone a few days into the new year. What would be a surprise to some is that Linden Lab chose to not just replace them, which would have been just ten names, but opted for a "refresh" by retiring twenty and replacing them with new ones

Today we are doing another big last name refresh by removing some of the older last name options and adding the following new ones from your suggestions ...

The twenty new names are: Eton, Harmony, Serenade, Ethereal, Celestia, Sable, Astral, Starling, Saccharin, Rizzler, Enthusiast, Pratchett, Elara, Cerulean, Onyx, Peridot, Winchester, Fluffington, Mainlander, and Wicken.

Of what yours truly thinks of the names, "Serenade" and "Harmony" sound like names musicians would like. "Mainlander" sounds like something for residents who prefer virtual life on the mainland. "Pratchet" sounds like something for a fan of the "Discworld" novels. "Winchester" sounds like something for Wild West, or firearm, fans.

Still for those waiting for a better last time, there might be something among this new list of twenty considering. As a reminder, it costs a $49.99 USD fee for regular residents to change their surname, $34.99 for Premium residents, and $14.99 for Premium-Plus.

EOTB: New Limited Edition Winter-Themed Last Names

With the Christmas season, Linden Lab is offering a number of winter and Christmas-themed account surnames as options to change to.

To celebrate the winter holiday season, we have released some festive new last names!

The new names are as follows:

Snowfox
Icicle
Evergreen
Candycane
Frostypaws
Yulepurr
Jollyfluff
Tidings
Tinsel
Feliz

A few of the names could mean something other than the Christmas season. "Tidings" could mean something oceanic. I can see "Evergreen" being used by someone who sees himself as fprever newbish.  A few such as "Snowfox" and "Yilepurr" would go well with some furries.

The names are available "for a limited time," which presumably means they'll be taken down not long after Christmas.

EOTB: Four New Merfolk-Inspired Last Names

On Friday April 28, Linden Lab announced four new last names for the month of May. What's different this time is that they're aimed at Second Life's merfolk community "for MerMay."

Today we are celebrating our mermaid community during MerMay with the release of the following mermaid-themed names, only available for a limited time:

Mermaid
Merrow
Seafarer
Fishtail

"Seafarer" would be appropriate for boating and ship fans. "Fishtail" I can see for someone who goes about in an anthro shark avatar as well. "Mermaid" and the less commonly known "Merrow," they'd likely be found just among the Merfolk.

For those interested in finding out more about Second Life's merfolk, one good place to do so would be the Safe Waters Foundation, which as a center at Union Passage (201/218/2). One can also look up more information at their website at http://www.goldmermaid.com/SWF/.

EOTB: Large Number of New Last Names Available

On Tuesday February 28, Linden Lab announced a number of new surnames for accounts. Unlike previous announcements in which there were several, this time twenty new ones were announced, the largest change since the ability to change one's last name was announced in April 13, 2020.

Today we are doing our biggest last name refresh by removing some of the older last name options and adding the following new ones from your suggestions:

Jeon
Foxtail
Varela
Kealoha
Primdashian
Spicy
Costanza
Gupta
Softpaw
Vandervoort
Tordenskjold
Peabody
Whiskers
Quack
Pixelbottom
Blossom
Bork
Nightingale
Sausage
Fibble

Of the original list of last names, only "Resident" remains as an option to change to (which to my knowledge has never been done).

On a personal observation, some of these names look like they were intended for furries, tinies, and nekos, such as "Foxtail" and "Softpaw." Some such as "Primdashian" and "Pixelbottom" sound like funny ones. Not quite sure who would name themselves "Sausage," aside from someone trying to get laughs where he or she went. Will we end up seeing a "Pork Sausage" or "Beef Sausage?"

For those wishing to suggest a future last name, Click Here for the Google doc. For those wishing to read comments about them, chech this thread in the SL forums.

EOTB: New Valentine-Themed Last Names (Limited Edition)

Besides listing some Valentine's Day events in the official Second Life blog the other day, Linden Lab also announced some Valentine's Day-themed last names.

The following valentine-themed names are only available for a limited time:
Snugglepuff
Allure
Passion
Heartstrings
Aphrodite
Adonis
Waifu
Husbando

Taking a look at this list, it's safe to say some of these names will be used more than others, especially for men. Hard to imagine a guy renaming himself "Snugglepuff."

The Lab stated these surnames "are seasonal and may come back around this time next year, for a limited time."

Premium and Premium Plus subscribers will pay no setup fees for any new regions purchased during the month of December. Only pay the first month’s maintenance fee and move right in.

Blitzen

The Lab stated the names are up only "for a limited time," though may be back next year.

Comparing this months list of names to the original list in April 2020, only a few names remain:  Atheria, Huntsman, Voxel, Littlepaws, Takeda, Dallas, and the option to change to the generic "Resident."

Linden Lab Changes Name Change Fees

When Linden Lab made it possible to change the last name of one's account a couple years ago (or bringing back last names as it was often called), it could be done only by someone with a Premium account. So someone with a basic account would have to sign up for it, at least temporarily, and then pay the fee.

A few days ago, Linden Lab announced that there would be changes to how one would pay for a name change. The good news, those with basic accounts won't need to sign up for Premium, and those with Premium Plus will pay a much smaller fee. The bad news, those with basic accounts won't be paying much less.

Today, we’re excited to announce that we’ve updated our Name Change service in a major way. We’ve told you that we were going to keep working on adding new features to the Premium and Premium Plus offerings, and we’re delivering on that once again today. From here on, Premium and Premium Plus subscribers will benefit from a reduced price for the Name Change service.

But that’s not all! Not only are we discounting the service across the board, but we’ve decided to democratize the service to everyone.

For those with Premium accounts, the fee has been cut from $39.99 US Dollars to $34.99, a reduction of about one eighth the price. Those with Premium Plus will benefit the most, as they will now only have to pay a $14.99 USD fee, less than half. For those with basic accounts, their fee is $49.99. While more convenient than the old way, it's not much less than the $51.98 combined for a one-month subscription for Premium and name change.
