20th Annual Hair Fair in Second Life Offering Limited Edition Last Names, Lifetime Premium Plus, Premium Auction

With the attention on the Relay for Life, it's easy to miss another cancer-related fundraiser going on in Second Life: The Hair Fair. Taking place in six sims, it offers a large variety of hairpieces, as well as other headgear like bandanas and wraps. And for it's anniversary, this Hair Fair is offering something special: Limited Edition last names and a  Lifetime Premium Plus and Lifetime Premium auctions.

...the 20th annual Hair Fair event in Second Life. Since 2010, Hair Fair has proudly partnered with Wigs For Kids, raising crucial funds and awareness to support children experiencing medical hair loss. Each year, creators, organizers, and residents come together to make this virtual event a meaningful celebration of community and generosity.

Like every year, the Hair Fair has numerous shops offering hairpieces for sale, each with a listed percentage of sales going to the charity Wigs For Kids. Fifteen percent is the minimum amount, with 100% of the bandana sales going to the fundraiser. They are in six sims, grouped by hair color: Blonde, Brunette, Redhead, Streaks, Noirette, Fouls. Supporting a good cause isn't the only reason people come here. You can find varieties here that can be hard to find anywhere else, especially men's hair.

But there are two things that set this Hair Fair apart. One is you can purchase one of three limited edition surnames for your account (all hair related): Style, Salon, and Strand.

You can purchase at the event the last name of your choice and these will be manually set in motion with Linden Lab. They are being sold for the standard name change fee of L 12250 and 100 % goes to Wigs for Kids. You can also change your first name included in the price.

These will not only have the awesome factor of having such unique new names, but also knowing that the name has history of helping Wigs for Kids ♥. Who do their best to promote this event every year on their own website.

As a reminder, your name will not change instantly, "While the name change is not instant it is done in order of filing your ticket, so do that as soon as you purchase." To get one of these last names, head to:  http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Hair%20Fair%20-%20Blonde/236/251/24

But this isn't all. You can also bid to get to upgrade to a Lifetime Premium account or a Lifetime Premium Plus account. You'll never have to pay another monthly fee for as long as Second Life is around.

Hair Fair 2026 has been given the amazing opportunity to Auction off two Lifetime accounts, where 100% of the proceeds will go to Wigs for Kids.

 - 1 Lifetime Premium Plus account.

 - 1 Lifetime Premium account.

The starting bids are based on the purchase price of these accounts set by Linden Lab. The Auction closes on 14th June but do not miss out on getting your bid in, if you are outbid before the auction ends you will be sent a notecard with landmark to return to the location to bid again if you wish to do so - which will also show as an offline notice to email if you have your settings that way. Please visit regularly during the event to keep your eye on the Auction.

The Hair Fair is going on until Sunday June 14.

RFL: "The Hair" At The Moon Dance

The weekly Relay for Life Moon Dance is always a blast. DJ Cynthia's music is fun, and so are the puns that fly. But on the March 20 dance, there was Fuzzball Ortega of the Steelhead Salmons with "The Hair," the most famous head covering in the Relay. It's so big, an entire avatar can fly in it. And of course it was followed by a bunch of hair and haircut jokes, the the 60s song "Long Beautiful Hair."

The Moon Dance takes place in Sunweaver Space every Thursday at 6PM during the Relay season/

Reader Submitted: "The Hair" At RFL Freedom Rock

Pictures from Fuzzball Ortega and Selene Jashan, respectively. At American Cancer Society 3 on Daturday March 9, there was a certain event, "Going on now, its BIG HAIR TIME! ....Grab your limo, spandex, and hair spray and COME ON DOWN to Freedom Rock!" Well, Fuzzball Ortega was around, and Relay regulars can guess what happened.

Fuzz would tell me, "So at Freedom Rock, there was mention of "Big Hair". Well, NATURALLY, The Hair and I couldn't turn down THAT invite."

Selene would remark, "Fuzzball at his finest... I think.   They did say big hair (laughter)!"

The Hair Fair

The Hair Fair is going on in Second Life, and will be around for a few more days. This yearly event that offers numerous hairpieces in a single place is taking place across six sims, Folls, Brunette, Streaks, Norette, Redhead, and Blonde, on beach shops and boardwalks. The event was listed in the Destination Guide

Hair Fair is an annual event that combines the talents of Hair and Hair accessories creators from all over the grid into this one location for two weeks. The event donates a percentage of all purchases to Wigs for Kids. It started in 2006 and has always been a yearly favorite of Hair lovers and the Second Life community. The event runs from June 18th to July 4th, 2021. More info at hairfair.wordpress.com.

The event offers a number of different brands of hairpieces. Most of the products are aimed at women, but shops with male hair have a symbol over their shops so guys can quickly head there. While some products donate a portion of sales to charity, the typical amount is ten to fifteen percent. There are a few offering a hundred percent, though.

The charity, Wigs For Kids, helps out kids whom have lost their hair whose families have trouble getting them a hairpiece, “Children shouldn’t have to worry about how they look, especially when they’re in the middle of a health crisis. We want to give these kids the opportunity to feel good about themselves again.”

New Firestorm Viewer, Christmas Gifts

Although the Linden Viewer made the Environmental Enhancement Project part of it's features in April, it wasn't until August that Team Firestorm so much as had a beta version of a viewer with the feature available. A few days ago on December 10, they finally released an official version of their viewer with the feature: 6.4.12 (62831).

Many of you have been waiting a long time for our full release of EEP! This is Linden Lab’s “Environmental Enhancement Project,” which replaces Firestorm’s Windlight feature. This feature has meant we’ve had to redesign some UI panels and functionality within the viewer. Now, we know that change can be hard, but there’s no getting around this one. EEP is here to stay, and Linden Lab did a crazy amount of hard work on this as we and others incessantly found and reported the bugs. ... But this update has LOADS more than just EEP packed inside. It’s been a long time since our last release, and we’ve had plenty of time to add valuable changes, features, fixes and improvements! ...

Some friends of mine have already downloaded the viewer. A few have told me that the new viewer seems to take longer to rezz objects than the last one, so some people may want to be prepared to reinstall the previous version. The beta EEP viewer and Firestorm version 6.2.4.57588 will be blocked on December 31, "As per our 3-version rule."

To celebrate, Team Firestorm threw a party with some gifts. While the party is over, the gifts are still available. In the sky platform above the Firestorm sims, one can pick up the "hair gift" and two pets, a panther and a ferret.

!!Firelight!! is celebrating with a unisex holiday hair gift. It looks great on both male and female avatars. The gift includes two versions: a rigged version and an unrigged version. You can resize and reshape the unrigged version to fit almost any head. The gift comes with a 16-shade hair-color HUD. A color wheel is also included so you can tint to your liking.

Wild Kajaera has made us 2 gifts! First is the most amazing and stunning Limited Edition Black Panther to celebrate the holiday season.

Their second gift is a Ferret! WK Ferrets are much like the real world they love to run around and play with their toys they have. As a forever pet they need no food unless you give them a wild thing potion.

It's unknown how much longer the gifts will be around.

Hair Fair 2019

The Hair Fair is back in Second Life. On Saturday August 17, the fundraiser began as the six sims were open, three of them full of shopping areas full of hairpieces for men and women avatars. The event is to raise funds for the "Wigs for Kids" charity.

Hair Fair is now open to the public, three regions covered with styles by creators from all over Second Life. Every purchase at Hair Fair donates a percentage to Wigs for Kids. Bandana booths and Donation kiosks donate 100%.

There is a Demo group where you can try the styles at home before venturing to the event. secondlife:///app/group/2e30d166-f3e5-e2de-ff72-b3da2d06ded2/about  copy paste to chat to join

This year as well as hairstylists we have a selection of accessory creators that have also made items to adorn your hair purchases. It is a wonderful combination of items for the hair enthusiasts of SL.

So come and do your part to help those that are giving so generously of their time, and creativity to this cause and to further show Second Life what a wonderful community of creators they are.

Getting to the area, the three sims with shopping areas were packed. Fortunately, there are three "cam sim" just north of them. People can look at the selection from the sims while they can't enter, or just simply look from afar before going in.

As the announcement states, the Hair Fair has a variety of hairpieces. This includes Bento animated hair that is advertised to move with the wearer, and hair that can be adjusted for head and breast sizes. Some hair was for ethnic avatars. While a few kiosks advertised their product as 100% of the money going to charity, 15% to 25% was a more common amount.

Wigs for Kids is a charity that "for over thirty years ... has been providing Hair Replacement Systems and support for children who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy, radiation therapy, ... burns and other medical issues at no cost to children or their families."

The event is scheduled to go on until September 1

It Came From Discord: Relay Humor

One of the running gags of the Relay for Life is "The Hair," Fuzzball Ortega's enormous hairpiece that's so massive, it requires propellers to stay upright. Every year, he makes at least a partial lap with it. This time, Eugenia Burton "Genie" Ortega was there, carrying a little comment on her back.

Hairology

Shaza Denver is back after exploring an event she couldn't keep under her hat: Hairology. This is a popular monthly event high above the Waterton Way featuring some top hair designers. There are a number of gifts always available, and Shava shows off three from the latest event.

Hair Fair 2017

With the Relay Weekend coming up, the Relay for Life is clearly the most active charity this month. But by all means it's not the only one. The 2017 Hair Fair, which raises money for Wigs for Kids, has been going on since the first of the month, and will continue until Sunday July 16.

Over four sims, Osmium, Iridium, Rhodium, and Platinum, various small shops offer a number of hairpieces for male and female avatars, with at least 15% going to charity. The website also states, "There are also Kiosks for direct donations, and Bandana Booths that donate 100% of all purchases." Among the booths, there were also a number of pictures up, possibly the results of an art contest.

Wigs for Kids is a charity that is aimed at helping children deal with hair loss, such as from the side-effects of chemotherapy, by providing them with hairpieces made from human hair. More  can be read about them at: http://dfwhairloss.com/wigs-for-kids/ .

For more information on the Hair Fair, check their website at: https://hairfair.wordpress.com/ .

Cartoon of the Day: Flowery Prank

Taken at the Fantasy Fair. I stumbled across a live podcast by Draxtor Despress, and hopping over, this guy was sitting down, and his AO would occasionally put him in this position. That's Tantari Kim in the corner. And no, she would *never* pull a prank like this (crosses fingers behind back).

How Can a Hairdo Change Your Look?

Hair. In real life, we comb it, have it cut, dye it, and have it styled. Thankfully in Second Life, a new hairstyle or color is much easier as one can just get a new hairpiece. But do different hairstyles just look different, or can they do something for your overall look?
Mylie Foxclaw takes a look at the question, by comparing several different hairstyles, some that look similar but have subtle differences.
