"Stay At Home Club" To Close, Sept 25

A group offering free gifts to it's members will soon be no more. On it's webpage, the "Stay At Home Club" announced it was closing on Friday September 25.

On it's webpage, the group was described as, "a group of designers based on the City of Neon Dreams at the HILTED region. During one of the harder times in everyone's real lives, we came up with the idea to gather a set of gifts to offer to people for free. Together we stay strong and in times like these we need each other. Originally the City of Neon Dreams team wanted to create a collection of gifts to offer to people, but we decided that it would be a good idea to involve other designers. The more the merrier! We started talking to a few friends and shared our ideas with them, that resulted in so many positive vibes and reactions that we decided to start The Stay at Home Club."

We have decided to close the Club for multiple reasons and we want to be open about this difficult decision. Firstly, we have dealt with over 1000 of incredible, generous, and outgoing designers. Many of which have gone above and beyond to help and provide gifts, some of which regularly updated and added more to help support us all. As of today, the in-world group has hit nearly 16,000 people, the Discord has over 900 members, the Facebook page has 2,600 likes, and the website has well over 2 Million page views! With this comes a lot of maintenance, the team has sunk much of their personal time and money into the Club to keep things running smoothly and up to date. Although we have worked with many incredible people, we have also experienced negativity.

We have sadly had to deal with abusive designers and residents, copyright infringement, hate speech, and even personal attacks in-world, on Discord, and on Facebook. This was not what the Club stands for, we wanted to bring a bit of light to a dark time by helping to provide gifts, support, and a place for people to not worry about ongoing real life situations. That being said, it was the minority causing those issues, but they did greatly affect us as we were also going through the same real life issues that many of you were also facing. We feel at this stage, the Club has served its purpose and has been an incredible experience for many of us involved, but now is the right time for us to say goodbye. Thank everyone involved and wish you all the best for the future. Times may be difficult, but stay strong, we will get through it!

While "multiple reasons" are listed for the closing, it seems "the attitude of a few hundred people" was the main one. Although they had banned the worst of the troublemakers, "the continuous attacks we received throughout multiple channels cannot be stopped." The webpage would state that some members reacted badly to the announcement, and reminded people that abusive behavior would be reported to Linden Lab.

The announcement stated that no new members were being accepted, and on Friday September 25, both the inworld group and the Discord server would be taken down. On the Facebook page, there were a number of statements expressing support, and sadness that the group was going, "It's sad to see you go, but you guys did amazing work. Sorry you had to deal with such negativity over such a positive helpful thing during a pandemic." "Thank you for the great work. Sad sl is full of bullies." "We really thank all yours for the hard work all this time and truly sad for all this happens. Just the hope and best wishes for future projects knowing always will have the fans supports with all yours. Sadly the haters are in every place but helpful people too and they are the only who really matters." "Thank you so much for all the gifts, the time that has taken to the creator to make all of them and for this project that bring a moment of happiness to our life. But, it's so sad that you have to deal with negative and toxic people's and you have to close the project."

"Once again, we thank you all for joining us on this adventure and we hope it brought a little bit of happiness to your day. Stay safe and stay strong!"

Second Life Store Hit With Two DMCA Shutdowns, Second Hours After Reopening

While the Second Life Birthday and the buyout of Linden Lab have been in the headlines, there have been other news stories that might have gotten more attention otherwise. Among the companies making use of Bento mesh is Genus, which has gotten attention for it's Bento heads. But a few months ago, they were hit with a DMCA takedown order, which shut them down for a while. Earlier this month, they reopened, only to be hit with a second takedown order in just a few hours.

Le Six: A New Event For Designers, Photographers and Shoppers

Klaus Bereznyak recently heard about an event in Second Life that got his attention. Held in the sim of Le Sixieme Sens, it's partially a shopping event, but there's no fee for any designers taking part. The other part is a photography contest. The sim in itself also offers reasons to come visit, being well designed and picturesque.

Announcement: Chris's Hurricane Disaster Fund

We need your help!

C H R I S' H U R R I C A N E D I S A S T E R F U N D

Dear Designer,

In times of need, every penny counts. A good friend of ours, McChris Flanagan, lives in Florida and experienced major flood damage to his house as a result of Hurricane Irma which struck land in Florida on Sunday, September 10. As a result of the flooding, Chris's house currently needs new floors and walls and needs to be cleared of mold that has already started to grow. A lot of his furniture had to be thrown away and kitchen cabinets were destroyed. In addition, the fence around his yard was destroyed. Chris has a physical disability that prohibits him from being able to walk or use his hands and arms properly and is bound to a wheelchair. His mother works very hard and very long hours to make ends meet. The family is struggling to pay for the repairs to the interior of the house and we would like to help!

ORGANIZERS: Kira Paderborn  and Jolene Carami

We have started a GoFundMe account where you can see photos of some of the damage to his house.

We are organizing a sales event which will take place from October 6th - 22nd, with 100% of donations collected going to Chris and his mother.

* Designers will have 35 prims available. If you need more please ask!
* Gachas are allowed as long as they have at least a 50% split to the charity
2) Place older items at the event at a discount (with at least 50% or more going to Chris)
3) Place a kiosk at your store to collect donations
4) Create a one of a kind item to be auctioned off at an auction event
5) Advertise for the event in your groups

Bloggers:
1) Advertise this event!
2) Link to our GoFundMe page on your blog
3) Auction your services at the event and donate the money earned to the event!

Hair Fair 2015 Opens

A few days ago on July 11, this year's "Hair Fair" fundraiser event opened. Taking place over six sims,
Ruthenium, Rhodium (Redhead), Palladium, Osmium (Noirette), Iridum (Brunette), and Platinum (Blonde), the event offers designers a chance to show off their wares, as well as deals for women, and men.

One small problem. When I tried getting in the SURL suggested by the viewer, I couldn't. The sim was full. I ported to close by. Still wasn't able to walk in.

For those interested, head on to Palladium (23, 23, 23), though for now, expect delays due to crowds.

Money raised from the Hair Fair goes to support "Wigs For Kids," which makes hairpieces for children cancer patients suffering hair loss due to the effects of chemotherapy.

For more information, check the Hair Fair website: https://hairfair.wordpress.com/

Gaming News: Steam Suddenly Ending Modder Payment System, WoW Numbers Drop, A Cheater's Public End

There's been some interesting gaming news lately. The latest numbers of World of Warcraft are out. Guild Wars 2 got the attention of gamers from all around when a cheater people complained about on the forum had a youtube of his fate posted there. And we finally look into Steam's payment system for those wanting to make mods for the still popular Skyrim game, which was taken down after only for days. One of the problems with it, some brought up, was how Skyrim's modders were being treated by the game's creators.

The Fantasy Faire is Open

The 2015 Fantasy Faire officially opened yesterday, Thursday April 24. This event which raises funds for the Relay for Life offers residents a chance to buy fantasy-themed items such as outfits and avatars, and some well-designed builds up for view. There are a total of thirteen sims in the event: Fairelands Junction, Odyssey, IchiGo IchiE, Sylvan of Spells, Tangleshimmer Grove, Aurora FF, Poseidons Abyss, Poppetsborough, Spires of Andolys, YoZakura, Wildehaven Marsh, Vallacia, and Ravenshold.

Checking out the SURL I was given, I appeared at the bottom of the waters in the sim. There was a HUD available nearby, which could take me to any of the sims on the Faire grounds.

Or one could take one of the portals that surounded the entry point.

Swimming up, once my viewer processed the sights, there were some beautiful sights to behold.

For more information on the Fantasy Faire, check out the website: https://fantasyfairesl.wordpress.com/.
For the schedule of events, check out the calendar. The happenings include music and dance parties, story readings, discussions, Roleplays, and more. Among the special events is Pratchett Day on April 28.

Eye on the Blog - "A Clockwork Spiral - Steampunk Event to Benefit National Kidney Foundation"

Yesterday on the Linden blog, a charity event benefiting the National Kidney Foundation was highlighted, the steampunk themed "A Clockwork Spiral," by Sonya Rothmanay.

If you love steampunk be sure to stop by A Clockwork Spiral - a shopping event that benefits the National Kidney Foundation and happens to be set on a dark Victorian setting complete with gears, planes, and all things steampunk. Designers have set out themed items marked with either 50% or 100% so you know how much of your purchase will be donated to the organization. Take in the sights and sounds and delve into an atmosphere of a world filled with steam-powered machinery and mechanical majesty.

The Destination Guide entry promises "music events and gifts," and gives the lankmark of Cursed (78/128/1001). The event lasts from now to October 1st.

Begun in real life to raise awareness for Down Syndrome, the event came to Second Life five years ago.
