OKTOBERFEST RETURNS TO BAY CITY

Autumnal carnival and party offers music, merriment, and fun

BAY CITY, SL -  Oktoberfest is a beloved folk festival honored in Germany and elsewhere around the world.

The Bay City Alliance is joining in as well, and is once again honoring Oktoberfest from the 19th of September to the 5th of October, 2025, at the Bay City Fairgrounds in North Channel ( http://slurl.com/secondlife/North%20Channel/128/128/24/ ).

Oktoberfest occurs annually from the end of September until the first Sunday in October. Heralding the harvest and all it provides, Oktoberfest features a beer festival, numerous traditional German foods, and a carnival.

With the carnival and biergarten available for the full two week fun, the event will culminate in a party in the Biergarten from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. SLT on the 5th of October.  Providing themed music is DJ GoSpeed of KONA Stream.

Bay City is a mainland community, developed by Linden Lab® and home to the Bay City Alliance. A Glance At The Warblood City Autumn Carnival

In Warblood City, their Autumn Carnival is going on. This family-friendly event is fun for just about everyone. There's rides, such as the ferris wheel. There are games, such as a few shooting galleries. There are performances. There's raffles in which you can get tickets for a chance at a nice prize. And there's the food.

Avatars of all shapes and sizes are welcome, within reason such as dressing decently. The area was decked out for fall, with some pumpkins and Halloween decorations.

I had a few words with one of the staff, Mina (scyredstrike Resident), who showed me around. There was a graveyard, which had zombies lumbering toward people. There was the kiddie food court. One area she was hesitant to go in as it was full of creepy dolls. There was also a Halloween walkthrough.

Wonderland in Bell Fairgrounds and NatureCon

Gemma Cleanslate's weekend was a busy one. With the closing of the water park, Bellisseria Fairgrounds now has a new attraction, "Midway to Wonderland." Part of the sim was decked out to look like Alice in Wonderland, where the events took place, while another part looked like an abandoned park. Next Gemma went to the location where NatureCon will begin on Wednesday August 18. There will be numerous nature-themed exhibits, plus stage performances, nature tours, and more.

Mardi Gras at Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez

Besides Valentine's Day, another holiday is just around the corner: Mardi Gras. For those who can't wait until Fat Tuesday, Gemma Cleanslate found out about one place one can have a little Carnival fun, at Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez in Colussus, by FrannyDJ. Here one can watch the parade of floats go by, or hop on one and join in. You can also pick up a few freebies at the store, and take a ride in an amusement park.

The Gacha Guild Halftime Hunt And The Furry Fashion Halloween Area

It's Halloween, and the last day to enjoy some Halloween events. Two offer spooky thrills as well as prizes. At the Gacha Guild, it's the last day to take part in their Halftime Hunt. Head to the grounds, find the huge spooky head, check the board on how to play and get the HUD and flashlight, then go through the head's mouth, and enter the dark carnival.

The game promises prizes for those who look long enough, click on the ravens, as well as a story about what happened. A short look revealed nothing of either. Just be careful of where you step, of you'll be sent back to a respawn point.

One of the Gacha Guild participants, Furry Fashion, also has it's own Halloween Area, complete with a maze with treasures to find.

The maze itself has a few rooms, divided by a maze of caverns. Click on the globes to get the prizes. But of course there's plenty of sights. There's also a photo contest going on, so if you see a great scene, take some pictures.

One More SL17B Stage Event, And A Carnival

Tuesday July 7 had one big impromptu, unplanned, event at the Second Life Seventeenth Birthday grounds. At the Auditorium, a number of musicians got on stage. Due to the lag, I couldn't get much of the audience in a picture before crashing. Among the performers was Golan Eilde, a longtime SLB volunteer, whom DJed for a time.

The events went on for some hours, going on to about 6PM SL time. The last performer was singer TJ O. Joubert (TJ Jenipe).

Dropping by after the events, with the lag mostly gone I saw that around the Auditorium was a carnival area. There was a Ferris wheel, a merry-go-round, a water slide, a drop tower, and much more.

There were a number of food stands, such as a pizzeria whose pizzas looked so real, one of them steaming, they had a friend of mine drooling over them. There were also some desserts. One big dessert was a destructible version of Nance Clowe's cake. Press the button, and after an ominous tune the cake would start to shake itself into pieces. One person dubbed it the "Shake and Cake." Nance joked that for a more intense experience, one could always hop in as the cake parts fly.

The carnival is at the meeting point of the four sims SL17B Imagination, Fantasy, Astound, and Awesome. People have until Sunday July 12 to drop by and join in the fun.

RFL Team Sunbeamers Reaches 360,000 Linden Mark

It was a little less than a month ago that the Relay's Team Sunbeamers reached Platinum rank for this year's fundraising season. Over the next few weeks, it slowly made it's way up to in the 290,000s. Then yesterday, a few events took place. Early in the morning was a joint event between the Sunbeamers and Team Relay for Christ at Distraida's Fishing Area in Alua, with DJ Matt playing the music.

Then came the carnival, with Shockwave Yareach and Cynthia Farshore's bumper car demo derby being the star attraction. While there were periods of quiet, there was no shortage of bumping and explosions. About 15,000 Lindens would be donated into it's kiosk between 8 AM and 4PM, much of it in a last-minute surge of visitors, whom were just as happy to chip into the kiosk as well as blowing something up.

Finally came the end results of Nydia Tungsten's "Bid Me" event. This part of the action got the most Lindens, and will be described in detail tomorrow. What we can say now is it raised the most of any Team Sunbeamer "Bid Me" event, and had results unlike most. But at the end of the day, the team total had passed both the 300,000 and 350,000 marks, ending up at over 360,000 Linden dollars raised.

Stay tuned for the results of the "Bid Me."

Shockwave and Cynthia's Bumper Cars

Tomorrow is the Carnival and Bumper Car Contest by Team Sunbeamers for Relay for Life. Taking place Saturday from 8AM to 4PM, the main feature will be the bumper cars. Not long ago, I had a few words with Shockwave Yareach and Cynthia Farshore about them.

"This event on the 18th will be epic!" Shockwave commented, "Bumpercars AND a full sized carnival. ... I've always thought that SL was the perfect place to make games of your own. I was playing with collisions.  And I figured out that making a shaped prim on the back of a car, the impacts from side and back would register.  But the front wouldn't. So bumper cars were born. I  bought the cars, and modified them for the job."

A sign near the course tells people how to play, touch the starter cube while green, then touch the coin slot inside the car. You're then all set to do some not-so-defensive driving. Shockwave explained, "You have to hit the sides or back with enough force.  Just tapping wont' do. You can take 10 hits.  First, you start smoking.  Then you burn, fire leaping out from the damage. And the fire and smoke, gets in the vision of the driver, makes it harder. So you have 5 minutes to inflict damage on the other cars.  10 points and that car is out. Five people can play at a time.  and I have bleachers so friends can watch. And coming up will be moving walls to give more of a challenge.  And cannons so the audience can try to take out cars too."

When asked how tricky was it to design, "Well, I took a shortcut by buying the cars from a existing builder.  Adding the code to make a working game out of it, was a bit complex. Since they are set physical, I had to turn off the physics to move them back to their pens, then back on again."

Shockwave and I would give the cars a try. Then Cynthia Farshore stopped by. She explained that the festival and contest's date in mid-April was to avoid bumping into too many Relay events, "We looked at the relay calendar and March is filled up." Shockwave added with a grin, "It gives us time add obstacles, cannons, explosives."

Prof. Grey's Arcadia Asylum freebie store and carnival came up, Shockwave saying, "Look at the carnival he added to the event." The place had some old time games, and a Moon Cannon, Cynthia commenting, "I told Prof. Grey I hope he gets attention since he helped in this."

Shockwave would add, "The ride is free.  But we ask for donations to our team.  Its at Sunlight Bay (15,157,26). It's running now if people are needing something to do while stuck at home, due to the virus, grab your friends, smash them up." Cynthia grinned, "Just know that when the event occurs it won't be so easy."

Later on, I would find barriers, and Cynthia had installed the cannons, "Muhahaha! ... Cannons to shoot at the contestants." There were a number there of various sizes and rates of fire, "Last night we were trying different cannons to see what worked best, might just use this mix instead of one type. Oh, and since last time you was here Shocky got the shifting barriers working. That rubber chicken like noise is a warning they are changing."

So it's official. The bumper cars are a real blast to play.

Two Mardi Gras Parades Saturday, New Toulouse and Caledon

Mardi Gras is coming. For some, it's the last day before Lent and the last day they can eat certain foods, so they revel things up with a festival. The day is sometimes called Carnival or Fat Tuesday. For the rest of us, it's a chance to party, even if we don't give up anything for Lent.

In the United States, New Orleans is particularly noted for it's parades and celebrations on Mardi Gras. So it's no surprise that the best known Fat Tuesday events are in the New Orleans-themed sim of New Toulhouse. This Saturday, they'll start their "Samedi Gras" party at 11AM SL time, with their parade scheduled to start at 12 Noon.

https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/New%20Toulouse/149/172/23

There will be other celebrations. As Caledon is celebrating it's thirteenth anniversary this week, they're making a Mardi Gras celebration as part of the events.  The fun there starts at 1PM with a "Skull and Bones Revelry." Then comes a parade going through fourteen sims.

Come all to the Caledon Mardi Gras!!!

We'll start at 5pm slt on March 2nd, setting off from near the western coastline of Kittywickshire, east through northern Caledon until we reach the eastern side of Pensans, then south to the Guv'nah's Mansion in Victoria City, then west to Caledon Prime and north into Port Caledon.

Frannydj's Mardi Gras Parade

Even though we just had Valentines Day, people in Second Life don't seem to rest for long before they're ready for another party. And already people are getting ready for the next holiday: Mardi Gras. While Fat Tuesday isn't until March 5th, you can enjoy Frannydj's Mardi Gras Parade. Gemma Cleanslate dropped by the place high above the Wicked Mountains sim, and saw a parade boasting over a hundred floats. And if you need a break from the action on the street, you can look around in the French Market for king cake, beads, and other goodies.

Read Gemma's article in Places.
