Mardi Gras Parade And Party In Bratsville

Today is Mardi Gras, also known as "Fat Tuesday" or "Carnival." There will be a few places holding themed events. But one place you won't want to miss is the Mardi Gras Parade in the Bratsville sim.

The Mardi Gras Parade is open in 2026. It will run from ... Friday Feb 13 thru Sunday Feb 22 in  a full 256x256 sim & contains 100 floats, most of which are ridable by those of us in Second Life for pics & videos of us & our friends, or the new ones we meet while riding them together. There will be DJs & Live singers, as well as a continous Blues music stream for us.

Dropping by, there were plenty of floats, balloons, bands, and more going down the street. Many were playing their own music, such as the Wonder Woman float which played the tune from the 70s TV show. Some floats, and a couple balloons, also had poseballs one could hop on and dance. To avoid feeling alone, there are a number of still figures on the street, watching the parade with you.

But the parade isn't the only attraction at the sim. At the west end of the street is a party area with a dance floor and stage. I dropped by to see a couple performers entertaining an audience with dance and song. This included Bayou Diesel, who heads the "Fans of the Mardi Gras Parade" group.

Bayou reminded me the parade was created by FrannyDJ Dean, who ran it until she passed away in 2023. But a band of fans has kept the parade alive. And this year. one can do more than watch the parade. For today, Mardi Gras, there will be four parties, with DJs, from 11 AM to 9 PM (two hour break).

11 AM to 1 PM: DJ Jaap, 3PM to 5PM : DJ Elise Boop, 5PM to 7PM : DJ Ali Heron. 7 to 9PM : DJ Bard Wasp

Happy Fat Tuesday,

Announcement: 2024 Mardi Gras Parade Open At The Brewery Until February 19

It is that time again in Second Life for Mardi Gras and a parade too.

For about 10 years in SL, Franny Dean created a Mardi Gras Parade for a few weeks  with 100+ floats that we all can ride on running  continuously in a New Orleans Bourbon Street setting. Until last year, when after an extended hospital stay, Franny died from Covid, ironically on Fat Tuesday in 2023.

However, Cyberwymn Graycloud is putting her parade on again in 2024  for us all in her memory. It will run from Friday February 9, 2024 at 5pm SLT  thru Fat Tuesday February 13 and on till Sunday February 18, 2024 so it runs thru 2 weekends for everyone who wants to come can do so. Please share the attached LM with your friends, so that as many as possible can attend in this 10 day period. If you have been to one of her Parade builds before you recall how much fun you had. If you haven't, then come find out for yourself. Just be sure to beads up and get down to the Mardi Gras  and join in the parade. Make sure you invite all your friends and to take pictures and make videos of all thee fun you are having.

Don't forget to tip to offer your Linden thanks to those who worked hard for us to be able to enjoy it.

Mardi Gras at Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez

Besides Valentine's Day, another holiday is just around the corner: Mardi Gras. For those who can't wait until Fat Tuesday, Gemma Cleanslate found out about one place one can have a little Carnival fun, at Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez in Colussus, by FrannyDJ. Here one can watch the parade of floats go by, or hop on one and join in. You can also pick up a few freebies at the store, and take a ride in an amusement park.

FrannyDJ's Mardi Gras Parade

Valentines Day is over, but there's another holiday coming soon: Mardi Gras. For those who can't make it to New Orleans in real life, there's a Fat Tuesday parade here in Second Life. For the sixth year in a row, FrannyDJ is running her floats down the street high above the Angels of Desire sim. Gemma Cleanslate dropped by and was able to more than just watch, but become part of the event.

Two Mardi Gras Parades Saturday, New Toulouse and Caledon

Mardi Gras is coming. For some, it's the last day before Lent and the last day they can eat certain foods, so they revel things up with a festival. The day is sometimes called Carnival or Fat Tuesday. For the rest of us, it's a chance to party, even if we don't give up anything for Lent.

In the United States, New Orleans is particularly noted for it's parades and celebrations on Mardi Gras. So it's no surprise that the best known Fat Tuesday events are in the New Orleans-themed sim of New Toulhouse. This Saturday, they'll start their "Samedi Gras" party at 11AM SL time, with their parade scheduled to start at 12 Noon.

There will be other celebrations. As Caledon is celebrating it's thirteenth anniversary this week, they're making a Mardi Gras celebration as part of the events.  The fun there starts at 1PM with a "Skull and Bones Revelry." Then comes a parade going through fourteen sims.

Come all to the Caledon Mardi Gras!!!

We'll start at 5pm slt on March 2nd, setting off from near the western coastline of Kittywickshire, east through northern Caledon until we reach the eastern side of Pensans, then south to the Guv'nah's Mansion in Victoria City, then west to Caledon Prime and north into Port Caledon.

Want to show off your best carnivale gear? Go for it!
Have themed pressies to give out along the route? Yay!
Can't wait to put together a float for you and your friends to ride? Awesome!
(But for floats, keep in mind that some of the sims are homesteads and there will be tunnels to go through along the route--try to keep the LI under 31 unless the floats are worn.)
Have none of the above but want to march and have a great time? Come on down!

Giant Des and Kami balloons will be available the day of the parade!

Those with questions can contact Iason Hassanov or Lady Aev (Aevalle Galicia)

Townies Presents Valentine and Mardi Gras Towns

Townies is back. The sim that takes on a new look every major holiday is now ready for February. But this time the sim is the home of two towns, not just one. Step into Valentine Town, with it's rivers of chocolate and plenty of shops with something special for your special someone. Next head over to Mardi Gras Town, where it's New Orleans partying up for "Fat Tuesday." Gemma Cleanslate took a look at the sim to see both places.

Mardi Gras in Second Life

Almost everyone loves a good party. And at this time of year the biggest theme for a party aside from Valentines Day is Mardi Gras, also known as "Carnival" or "Fat Tuesday." Gemma Cleanslate checked out a few places that were celebrating the holiday. With it's close association with New Orleans in the US, some places were decorated much like the city's French Quarter. And of course there were the costumes, some quite colorful.

Parades and Party in New Toulouse on Saturday, Parade Today

On Saturday, the New Toulhouse sim, the location of a 1920's New Orleans roleplay community, held their "Samedi Gras" Parade at Noon on Saturday February 6. Following it was a party at the town square. Pazzo Pestana sent a video to the newser of various floats, and partiers, going down the streets, while others watched and/or danced from the streets. The event has been taking place every year in the sim for a few years.

In a proclamation, listed in the New Toulouse blog, Maggie Hawksby the "Queen of the Carnival" proclaimed, "…that the Joyous Music of Carnival shall fill the Streets of our Beloved New Toulouse, Multiplying all Merriment;…that Colorful Costumes, Elaborate Masks, and Outrageous Adornments of all kinds be the order of the day;…that Dancing in the Streets, on Sidewalks, Balconies, yea, even upon the Rooftops, shall be greatly Encouraged;…that Fair Weather and Blue Skies shall prevail, that the Multitudes might gather and celebrate without hindrance;…that the Royal Constabulary of New Toulouse shall marshal the Grand Celebration with their Customary Skill and an appropriate Degree of Forbearance toward the Inevitable Hijinks and Tomfoolery;…that the Keepers of Bars, Inns, Taverns, Grocers, Cigar Emporiums, Stables, Chinese Laundries, Bakeries, Seafood Merchants, Barber Shops, Bookshops, Print Shops, Gambling Halls, Dance Halls, Hospitals, Brothels, and Eating and Drinking Establishments in Her beloved City shall throw open their Doors to receive all Carnival Celebrants, of whatsoever degree or kind with our customary Good Fellowship, Warmth, and true Southern hospitality."

Following the parade was a party, which the Newser was able to drop in on. Again, there was a variety of outfits there from regular street clothes to fancy Carnival-style outfits to 18th century wear, and one woman was wearing nothing at all.

Henri Godenot, the mayor of the town, stated this wouldn't be the last event for Mardi Gras. Today would be the "Blessing of the Waters at 5:50PM" SL time at the New Toulouse Bayou  at (78/56/21), followed by another parade.

More pictures can be seen from the community blog, and it's Flickr page.

Mardi Gras at Club Zero Gravity

March 4 was "Mardi Gras," also known as "Carnival" and "Fat Tuesday," the final day before the Lent season practiced by some churchgoers. It's traditional to give up eating foods considered richer, so this was the last day to indulge in them for a while, and people in many places where there are large numbers of Catholics often throw a party for the occasion. Even for those whom don't believe in Lent, everyone loves a good party. So many places in Second Life threw Mardi Gras parties. This included Club Zero Gravity.

Tonight at Club Zero Gravity, it's our Mardi Gras party. It's "Fat Tuesday," the day in many places people have one big party before giving up good food for Lent. Even for those of us whom aren't giving up anything but rent and tax money, it's still a great time to whoop it up. Wear "masquarade" masks, and anything else fit for a party. And of course there's the beads. Come on over and be part of the worldwide Carnival.

Normally one has to be "in theme" to qualify for the contest. But while Carnival is known for it's outfits for the ladies, special outfits for guys not so much. So everyone who showed up (aside from the DJ and hostess) qualified for the 500 Linden prize.

Perri Prinz was the DJ for the event. Her selection included a number of Jazz tunes worthy of a parade in New Orleans. But there were also a number of classic rock and pop songs mixed in.

The winner of the contest was Valkyrie McGill for what she called her "peacock" dress.

It was a small party for Club Zero Gravity, perhaps some were out partying in real life. But a fun time was had by all.

Club Zero Gravity is at Purrfection Estates, (232, 35, 3340)

Mardi Grads Scenes in Second Life

Tuesday February 21st was Mardi Gras, also known as "Fat Tuesday," Shrove Tuesday/Pancake Day, or Carnival in some places. The event is associated with costumes and parties, and in Second Life where people will sometimes use any excuse to party, naturally the day was reflected here in places.
