Announcement: 2024 Mardi Gras Parade Open At The Brewery Until February 19
For about 10 years in SL, Franny Dean created a Mardi Gras Parade for a few weeks with 100+ floats that we all can ride on running continuously in a New Orleans Bourbon Street setting. Until last year, when after an extended hospital stay, Franny died from Covid, ironically on Fat Tuesday in 2023.
However, Cyberwymn Graycloud is putting her parade on again in 2024 for us all in her memory. It will run from Friday February 9, 2024 at 5pm SLT thru Fat Tuesday February 13 and on till Sunday February 18, 2024 so it runs thru 2 weekends for everyone who wants to come can do so. Please share the attached LM with your friends, so that as many as possible can attend in this 10 day period. If you have been to one of her Parade builds before you recall how much fun you had. If you haven't, then come find out for yourself. Just be sure to beads up and get down to the Mardi Gras and join in the parade. Make sure you invite all your friends and to take pictures and make videos of all thee fun you are having.
Don't forget to tip to offer your Linden thanks to those who worked hard for us to be able to enjoy it.

Press Release: Morte Gras at Flox Sim
"MORTE GRAS" is a sort of dark "Mardi Gras," which is a huge celebration at New Orleans (in RL). The one at Haunted Nawlins (in SL) is grand, fun, wild... and interspersed with Dark Humor, Magick, and the (un)Dead.
Morte Gras spins a celebration of life and death, parties and wakes. Rather than being morbid or sad, it offers instead a grand festival--a throbbing, fierce juxtaposition of paint and glitter splashed across shadow!
Morte Gras is both a sim-size Festival and a grid-wide Hunt. Both start at the center of FLOX sim. For the Hunt, visitors seek out a particular set of beads nearby. Once they find those, they can hop to the next location in another sim.
In contrast, the Morte Gras Festival takes place throughout FLOX sim, in the Haunted Nawlins build. Haunted Nawlins is a depiction of New Orleans from the early 1900s. It shimmers with local color and fun. There are decrepit and beautiful buildings in the Garden District, lovely haunted shops in the French Quarter, a Rougarou beast in the Bayou, a Voodoo Queen in the shadows, and a feast of Cajun food and music for all to enjoy!
Sponsors for this event are ~Lantian/Flox~ and Morrigan's Magick. Participating vendors include: Tea Lane, Impertinences, Kim's Kreations, SECOND NATURE, le glamouriste, +Inner Mantra+, All Things Beautiful, Dalrymple Designs, **DSO**, {archduchess}, Tranquility, Grasshopper St., Shaman's Hhut, and more! They offer a wide range of top-quality decor, clothing, jewelry, furniture, and full perm items for your shopping enjoyment.
There will be games, DJs, dancing, food, parades with floats, and yes *lots* of beads! If you wear a special game-HUD you can get points for catching the beads and similar Mardi Gras collectibles. You can get a Free or Deluxe version of the game-HUD at the arrival building.
WHEN:
* 11-28 February 2023
* Also, the Haunted Nawlins build is permanent, and will be reused for future events.

A Busy Weekend
Quite a bit happened this weekend. There were a number of Valentine's Day themed events, such as the Linden one at the Isle of View on Friday February 12. There were also Mardi Gras themed happenings, such as the ones at New Toulhouse on Saturday February 13, and Raglan Shire (above) on Sunday February 14. Also on Sunday was the One Billion Rising, a yearly event in support of women's rights worldwide.
More about these events later.

Mardi Gras Parade and Party in the CDS
On Saturday February 6, the Confederation of Democratic Simulators held a Mardi Gras event. The event started at Colonia Nova. There was a small parade led by Sudane Erato, whom drove a truck covered with flowers. Brooke Brandenburg was behind her, driving the only real float in the parade. Behind them were several well-dressed women, notably one in an "Alice" outfit with a scene of Wonderland instead of a skirt. Chancellor Kyoko Furse-Barzane (Samara Barzane) showed up, as a feline "dinkie" avatar, or a "dinkie winkie" as a friend of hers teasingly called her.
Eventually, it was time to get things started, and they headed off down the street. They headed off to the sim to the west, Locus Amoenus, and eventually stopped at it's seaside area. There, the people went to a DJ booth setup by the piers, where DJ Cali began playing some music. As the people danced, beads were falling from the sky. When tipped, DJ Calli gave out presents to the tippers. Someone also passed around sparklers, one woman commenting, "My feathers will prob burn up, but hey who cares?"
There was much complimenting of the floats and outfits, as well as various amusing comments, "Today I see is Fat Saturday, after which will come Fat Sunday....and all the way to Fat Tuesday. Which in my book means I have all those days to eat cake and drink before Lent!" There was also talk about how cold the weather was getting, "I woke up this morning to -34C (-29F) with a windchil making it feel like -48 (-54F) ... I am on the Canadian prairies." Near the end, DJ Calli mused, "Have to slow it down as the set draws to a close or you have half naked amped up drunken revellry on the streets."
There was a contest for the best float. It was declared a tie between the two entries. For best costume, the winner was Laure Levenque, with Delia Lak getting second place, and Onja Strom and Rosie Gray tying for third.

Have themed pressies to give out along the route? Yay!
Can't wait to put together a float for you and your friends to ride? Awesome!
(But for floats, keep in mind that some of the sims are homesteads and there will be tunnels to go through along the route--try to keep the LI under 31 unless the floats are worn.)
Have none of the above but want to march and have a great time? Come on down!
Giant Des and Kami balloons will be available the day of the parade!

FrannyDJ's Mardi Gras Parade
Valentines Day is over, but there's another holiday coming soon: Mardi Gras. For those who can't make it to New Orleans in real life, there's a Fat Tuesday parade here in Second Life. For the sixth year in a row, FrannyDJ is running her floats down the street high above the Angels of Desire sim. Gemma Cleanslate dropped by and was able to more than just watch, but become part of the event.
