Cartoon of The Day: Two-Tu Tuesday?
Taken at Burn2. He has a skirt on, and when asked he was saying it was really a tutu, and it was Tuesday so why not "Tutu Tuesday?"
But looking at the design of the garment, there was one more pun.

Burn2: "The Man" Is Up
It took a little time, but "The Man" for this year's Burn2 art and music festival is up. I went by yesterday evening, and it was no longer in pieces on the ground, but it and it's base were built and upright.
I had a few words with Zoren Manray, the primary builder of "The Man." He told me because of real-life he had been delayed in construction, but had it "mostly up" by Tuesday night. Like other years, this one is based on it's counterpart at the real-life Burning Man, "every year an approximation of the real-life Man is made." But there are small differences, "the RL one had more trusses instead of solid parts and more artwork inside. Overall the shape and design is the same though. This year the design was interesting since the base was quite tall. Usually there is only one deck, but this has three. This also meant that in RL they had to limit the number of people on it to 40 or so.. to keep it from being overloaded."
"Also since they had to make the base so strong it lead to an interesting burn. It just did not want to collapse." Zoren did say they would at least try to make the burn last a little longer.
At night, neon tubes inside The Man make it more visible. And like what could be done with the real one, one can climb up it. Zoren did say there were a last few touches on it.
The "Burning of The Man" will take place on Saturday October 24.

Nothing New On The Sunny Estates
For those wondering about the Sunweaver Estates, there have been no new developments about their future. The sims are still up, despite their owner Rita Mariner having passed away a few months ago. When I last talked to Shockwave Yareach, he told me there's been no word from Linden Lab about them. The most likely is there's still money in Rita's account, and as long as money goes from there to Linden Lab, there's no issue. But there's no telling how long it will last.
In the meantime, life, or in this case virtual life, has gone on, with Club Xanadu having taken the Wednesday at 6PM time that the now inactive Club Cutlass had and a few more people going to it's Saturday at 8PM party. The Happy Vixen has also seen more people drop by, especially with it's Halloween Haunt set up.
When there's more news about the future of the Sunweaver sims, we'll let you the readers know.

EOTB: Applications Being Accepted For Christmas Shop And Hop
It's still mid-October, and Halloween isn't for almost two weeks. But already Linden Lab is getting ready for the Christmas season. On Friday in the official Second Life blog, the Lab announced they were accepting applications for stores in this year's Holiday Shop and Hop.
Halloween may still be spookily lingering, but we’re already brewing up plans for the festive season! We’re excited to announce the return of our highly anticipated Holiday Shop & Hop event. Mark your calendars for a spectacular shopping extravaganza ...
Those interested in taking part need to fill out a Google doc form (here). As with Shop and Hop events in the past, participating sellers need to offer a 20% discount on all items on sale, plus offer a free gift to any shopper regardless if they're in the store group or not. It either must be a new product, or a gift card worth at least 300 Linden dollars. All products, and store decoration, must be rated moderate. Nor is anything political permitted. And stores cannot be used to promote items at other events.
Those interested in taking part have until Sunday October 25 to send in their applications. The Holiday Shop and Hop will take place from Friday December 4 to Sunday January 3, 2027.

"The End of The Road" For OSgrid, Second Largest OpenSim Virtual World To Close After 19 Years of Operation
With virtual worlds being dominated by Second Life and VRChat, OpenSim gets only a relatively small amount of users these days, about 164,000 monthly users compared to about 600,000 to 750,000 of SL. With over three hundred OS worlds, it doesn't usually make much news when one closes. But a few days ago, OSgrid, the second largest one, announced that after nineteen years it was finally "The end of the road."
For 19 years, OSgrid has been more than just a server or a platform. It was a digital frontier built on a radical premise: that an open, decentralized metaverse could thrive entirely on community, trust, and shared architecture. Today, it is with a profound sense of loss that the OSgrid board must announce the end of this journey. We are officially calling it a day.
It wasn't lack of usership that was the problem, the grid remains the second-most OpenSim world used. It wasn't from a lack of staff keeping it up, according to them the team remained dedicated. The reason the nineteen year old virtual world was deemed beyond worth saving was because of one single hacker who took advantage of the grid's open code framework to flood it's infrastructure with huge amounts of junk data "Our inventory items table exploded from 3 GB to a crippling 139 GB, turning routine 10-minute database backups into 12-hour ordeals. Our assets are effectively poisoned."
The damage wasn't from one single attack, but repeated ones that were not stopping. when the staff discussed how to stop them, the only way to do so was to abandon their philosophy of an open grid and change to a closed one, "to truly end the attacks, we would simply have to permanently lock down the grid. We refuse to compromise the very soul & model of OSgrid just to keep the lights on. Spending 11 hours a day in shifts—blocking attacks and cleaning up poisoned data—is no longer sustainable as a volunteer effort. We have survived and combatted many forms of attacks over the decades, but Entropy has finally won."
Hypergird Business stated twice in the past two years, OSgrid was down for a month, once in March 2025 to clear it's database of corrupted information, and June this year, blamed on "metadata size limits."
No more registrations to the grid are being accepted, and the final membership meeting was yesterday, Sunday October 18. The grid will close at Midnight, December 31.

More Burn2 Scenes
Burn2 continues, with it's exhibits and music events.
Besides the DJ events, the Lamplighters have some shows of their own.
Like other Burning Man events, they made decorating porto-potties an art form.
Last time there was no sign of "The Man," just a construction site in the general vicinity of where it should be. And it looks like I guessed right. Yesterday I saw the effigy lying down. Maybe it will be up by tomorrow.
All for now,

A Glance At Burn2
The Burn2 art and music festival is going on. At the 12-sim area, music parties are going on.
And there are numerous art exhibits up.
But there is one thing I haven't noticed. I didn't see the wooden effigy known as "The Man." I did see this build under construction close to the middle of the area. Maybe this is the future spot.
Stay tuned for more.

Holy Presence Christian Church
With so much publicity about the naughty side of Second Life, it's not always easy to remember there's a spiritual side as well. There are a number of churches still offering services in Second Life. Among them, the Holy Presence Christian Church in Majorero.
The church considers itself interdenominational, and services are at 9AM every Sunday by Michiel Allaire (MichielAlarie Resident).
Holy Presence Christian Church is a REAL Church which offers a full range of Christian church experiences like, weddings, baptisms, Christenings, prayers for healing and emotional deliverance, family gatherings and social events. We have everything a real life church has to offer, right here in SecondLife.

Humanist Discussion on Capital Punishment
Capital punishment has long been a topic of discussion. Done away with in Western Europe, it remains an option in the United States, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, in addition to many Third World countries. But with the decision by America's Secretary of War to have the execution of a terrorist livestreamed, that made headlines as America hasn't done a public execution in almost a century and never televised one. As it turned out, Second Life's Humanist Discussion event for last Sunday happened to have capital punishment as the topic. So how did it go?

Slosh Kosh 2026, Aviation And Camping Event
The Slosh Kosh is taking place in Second Life. It could be described as part camping event and part air show. It's taking place over four sims, Rhodium, Osmium, Iridium, and Platinum. It started on the ninth, and is going on to Sunday October 18
I was told about the event through someone in the "Drivers of SL" group, and talking to someone else was informed most of the campers came through that group, which organized it with the SL Aviation Network. This is the second year the event has taken place, and is apparently based on the real-life annual air show and gathering at two airports near Oshkosh Wisconsin, organized by a group of aviation fans.
To my knowledge, there are still a few camping spots, "each camper gets 120LI for their campsite," and setting up is free. There are some rules to follow, two of the sims having additional restrictions, so read them before setting up.
There are a few places people have set up vehicle stores. One is offering a free "speeder." It is at Iridium (212/214/121). There are air show events by squadrons, on Friday October 16, Saturday October 17, and Sunday October 18 (and some practice hours before these), with Sunday being the most active day. For music fans, there are DJ events. One can find a schedule HUD for both at the music stage. And besides the flying, watching air shows, and being at the music parties, one can just hang out at the camps with friends and airplane fans.

From Friday October 16 to Sunday October 25, over 12 sims there will be music shows, numerous displays of art, and other events such as the Lamplighters. The high points of the festival, the Burning of The Man and the Temple Burn, will take place Saturday October 24 and Sunday October 25 respectively.

Taken at one of DJ Pilot's parties. One guy in a demonic-looking avie was in a pizza delivery outfit. That made me think of a certain "Far Side Cartoon."

Hurricaine Isaias Hits Southern US Coast, Half Million Without Power, More To Come
Last night on the evening of Friday October 9, Hurricaine Isaias hit landfall on the American Gulf Coast at the western end of the Florida panhandle, near the town of Destin, Florida. It struck as a Category Two storm, with winds of 105 miles an hour. More than 300,000 have lost power in Florida and almost 200,000 in Alabama, with thousands more in Georgia and Mississippi. The storm is expected to make it's way up Alabama and into Tennessee and Kentucky and eventually moving beyond, causing flooding and additional outages.
Second Life residents who live in the path of the storm are likely to experience power outages and get knocked offline. So don't be surprised if your friend list is showing fewer than normal as active.

The Happy Vixen's Halloween Haunt
Remember when yesterday the Newser mentioned something new at the Happy Vixen? Well, we can reveal it now. What we showed was a door, one leading to this year's Halloween Haunt at the Happy Vixen,
The Haunt was built by the talented Jasmine Dawn. Over the years, Jasmine has built several haunts for the Sunweaver/Angels' beach club, the last one "The House at Haunted Hill" in 2022.
The Halloween Haunt was officially opened for partying on the evening of Thursday October 8, with DJ Charlee playing her tunes before a sizeable crowd.
Hey there peeps! We're in for a double treat tonight. Not only is our awesome DJ Charlee playing her tunes, but we have our special Halloween Haunt ready, courtesy of Jasmine Dawn, which is where our parties will be until after Halloween. To get there, go through the door at the beach club's dance floor, then go through the spooky fog down the trail. You can't miss the haunt. Come on over and dance away to DJ Charlee's fantastic tunage. Oh, and don't forget to set the viewer to Shared Environment or Midnight.
This included some people who haven't gone to the beach club often, and a few I hadn't seen there before. Much was talked about, notably Halloween jokes and the Caledon Downs Halloween Ghost Hunt.
The Halloween Haunt will be up until after Saturday October 31.

EOTB: New Halloween-Themed Last Names For Residents
A few days ago as part of it's Halloween in Second Life announcement, Linden Lab stated there were some new options for last names for residents to chose from.
For this special update, we’ve chosen the most highly requested names that also capture the spirit of Halloween. If you’ve ever suggested something haunting, eerie, or just plain spooky, you may now see it on the list!
The names on the list are as follows: Moonglow, Spoopy, Pumpkinspice, Mash, Sanguine, Skelly, Lich, Geist, Haunting, and Lenore.
As a reminder, changing one's last name has some catches, notably it's not for free but has a fee, $49,99 USD for those with a free account. Check the FAQ page (here).

Exhibit: "The Cartoon Art of Charles Addams"
There's an art exhibition appropriate for the spooky season of October. Strangeland Studios is hosting an exhibit on "The Cartoon Art of Charles Addams."
It's time to pay a call on the Addams Family! Our annual Halloween show will be up from October 1 thru the end of November! AT STRANGELANDS STUDIOS
Charles Addams was a cartoonist for the New Yorker whom is known for toons with a macabre sense of humor, notably those focusing around an eccentric family of whom lived in a spooky mansion, the two kids were trying to kill one another, the butler resembled the Frankenstein monster, and whose idea of fun is walking around graveyards. First drawing art for The New Yorker in 1933, the first of these cartoons appeared in 1938. He would continue doing his work until his death in 1988, having done a total of about 1200 cartoons.
Before his time at the New Yorker, Addams had a job at True Detective magazine, touching up photographs of corpses to remove the blood before they were put into stories, "A lot of those corpses were more interesting the way they were."
The exhibit is by Rory Torrance (rory Torrance), and will be up until after Halloween.
