Star Wars RFL Event At Rockin' Robin

On Monday May 4, Rockin' Robin was the scene of a fundraiser concert. The event was advertised as going on all day, and being May the Fourth, the theme was Star Wars.

We are dancing on the moon all day today (Monday, May 4th), for 24 hours at an event hosted by Team Bobbi Sue. Dress in anything space-related (Star Wars, Star Trek, astronauts, aliens) or casual. Singers today: Austin Moores at 5 pm, and Wolfie Moonshadow at 6 pm. There are also 10 raffles with some amazing prizes valued up to L$15,000!

Yours truly dropped by when Austin Moores was singing, sporting an Emperor Palpatine avatar, at one point doubting the Star Wars villain probably couldn't sing a note.

Backing up The Emperor Austin were dancers Netera Landar and Talia Sunsong.

It's not yet known to the Newser how much was raised by Team Bobby Sue, but at the end of the set, the total on both kiosks on the stage was close to a hundred thousand Linden dollars. Much had also been raised in the motorcycle and other prize raffles.

Update: The Newser was informed the event raised a total of L$479,446 , or  US$1980

Happy Star Wars Day

It's May the Fourth, also know as Star Wars Day : "May the Fourth be with you." Going about the Fantasy Faire, someone was going about in Mandalorian armor with a "Baby Yoda"/ Grogu beside him. So the fan holiday is alive and well inworld.

The 2024 Sunbeamer Air Show

This past weekend, the Relayers were partying it up at Relaystock. But the weekend before, attention was on Team Sunbeamers and Team Roos With A Dream with the Tenth Annual RFL Sunbeamer Air Show, taking place on Farshore Field at Sunlight Bay. Besides the exhibits and attractions such as balloon riding, there were two air squadrons performing for the crowd, as well as DJ Kalya and the Roos.

See the pictures in Events.

Weekend in Brief

It was quite a weekend. Saturday May the 4rth saw the tenth annual Sunbeamer Air Show for the Relay for Life. Despite schedule problems, organizer Cynthia Farshore managed to get two squadrons to take part and during the music event with DJ Kayla and the Roos, it was announced that the Sunbeamer team had crossed the one million Linden mark.

The Fantasy Faire was still going on (and still has a couple days left), and other Relay events took place as well. No doubt there were some "Star Wars Day" and Cinco de Mayo events as well. Sadly there was also a death reported. Smoke Texan, one of the people behind a large 911 memorial had passed.

More on these stories, and more, later.

Press Release: Tenth Annual Sunbeamer RFL Air Show

Welcome to the 10th Annual Sunbeamer Relay For Life Air Show

The Sunbeamers welcomes you to the 10th Annual Sunbeamer RFL Air Show Fly-in on Saturday May the 4th be with you between the hours of 8AM to 5PM SLT. This year is themed on Star Wars. Scheduled events include

Anemone Wing Walking  noon till 1pm

Hawks Aerobatic Team 1pm till 2pm

DJ Kayla and the Kangaroos 3pm till 5pm

There will be planes on display with information about them along with flight demonstrations. You can rezz Your Own Plane and stunt around yourself but do ask you clean it up afterwards. Some Pilots will be on hand to give rides both plane and balloon.

We have two major contest running. The Bicycle Powered Blimp Race and a Bumper Car Contest! At either contest upon a donation to the American Cancer Society kiosk you then acquire a free bicycle powered blimp provided for each entry. You can not use one of your own in the contest unless it is the same thing that is being given. This makes for an even playing field. Also we require that only participants fly the course as non-players will cause the timers to be thrown off. The course runs through the sky were you must pass through rings spaced at intervals that vary in height and direction. Missing a ring causes a disqualified time. You may run the course as many times as you like hopefully bettering your time. Contest runs through the air show hours and the prize of a Aerial Outfitters Sky Skiff Airship will be sent to the winner at the air shows end at 5PM.

The bumper car contest is no ordinary bumper car setup, remember it's the Sunbeamers who are not noted as being a very sane group. The contestants may experience changing obstacles, exploding cars, and maybe even...cannon fire? Oh My. Yes the spectators are armed and willing. But wait there’s mooore, also passengers can ride along, and try to shoot the other cars! Chaos!! The contest will be in 5 minute runs with trophies awarded at the end of each. You can enter as many contest as you like.
There will be a carnival midway with a number of activities to participate in. At each activity we ask for a donation to the Relay For Life kiosk located at each, not required but it would be nice.

On the field are Avatar Cannons! For a donation you will be shot out as an Avatar Cannonball!! Oh, and should say a provided parachute gently brings you back down. You keep the RFL 2024 logo textured parachute for free.

You can take turns dunking either your partner, a Sunbeamer, or anyone in a dunk tank, Just onnnnne little detail, instead of a beanbag you fire a German 88mm shell into its target!! There will be lots of other activities so come explore.

Disney Tribute "Magicland" About to Close

Some sad news for Disney fans in Second Life. Two days ago on Tuesday April 9, the owners of Magicland Park, a tribute to Disneyland, announced the place would soon be closing.

Every good thing comes to an end and it's unfortunately time for us to say goodbye to Magicland Park. THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us over the last 15 years. This has been an amazing incredible journey that we were fortunate to be able to share with all of you. Magicland Park was a labor of love and we enjoyed this journey we were on.

It was with a heavy heart that we came to this decision, but our lives have moved us into a different direction.

We hope that you enjoyed the moments you had here with us on this amazing journey. Magicland Park's last day of operation will be Sunday, April 14, 2024. So grab your friends and family, come on down and take a last spin on the teacups or a final trip back through time on the Carousel of Progress. We have our favorite attractions and know that you do too.

Thank you for all your support and encouragement over all these years.

So there are just a few more days for visitors to come by. Besides walking around, one can check out the rides. There's a "Star Tours" attraction in which riders go on a ship supposedly piloted by R2D2. There's the "Captain EO" ride which is around a Michael Jackson music video. There's the "Carousel of Progress" which shows how households have progressed through the 20th century. And more.

Once again, the last day the park will be scheduled to be up is Sunday April 14.

Cartoon of The Day: Trolling The Fanboys

Taken at Club Zero Gravity, the punchline based on actual dialogue. For those who don't know, the Twi'lek's are a race in Star Wars, who wouldn't know of Starfleet, or anything else in Star Trek.

Cartoon of The Day: Happy Star Wars Day

Taken at the Hoizons entry point when Rezzdarnit's last location was down and logging in, he appeared there. Among the avatars I saw was this R2-D2. So why would be be alone?

Cartoon of The Day: Shooting First

Taken at Club Cutlass's sci-fi party. In the original series of Star Trek, lower-ranked men and women in Security, noted for their red shirts, ended up getting killed a number of times to the point it became a trope. Thinking about it, their weapons were smaller than those in a certain other science-fiction tale. Looks like this one 'shirt isn't taking chances on her next away-team mission.

More "May The Fourth Be With You"

Wednesday May 4 had it's share of Star Wars jokes, "May the Fourth Be With You." And yours truly was in with the humor by sporting this specialized stormtrooper armor. Made by Satch Flan, it was a limited edition I got at a Luskwood Star Wars event several years ago.

At DJ Mattie's set at the Fairechylde that evening (see above), at one point someone got into a "Scoutwalker." Thankfully it didn't dance and step on anyone. Guess that would be "Revenge of the Fifth."

Happy "Star Wars Day"

Checking my Firestorm Viewer this morning, looks like there was a tribute to a favorite calendar pun among fans of "Star Wars."

"May the Fourth Be With You."

And tomorrow, it will be "Revenge of The Fifth."

Reader Submitted: May The Fourth Be With You

From Toady Nakamura. She was teaching a class on how to make a lightsaber in Second Life, and had a whimsical build next to her. I doubt there were and takers of the challenge offered in the stone.

Happy Star Wars Day

Yesterday, May 4, was "Star Wars Day," a day fans of the franchise's movies and books take the time to celebrate it. The date is a play on "May the Force be with you," fans often saying "May the Fourth be with you." On Google, typing "may the fourth be with you" in search then pressing "Return" resulted in confetti and various pictures flying across the screen momentarily. A little search engine funnery.

Sci-Fi Expo Starts Today

The Sci-Fi Expo, a twice a year event that raises money for the Relay for Life's "Making Strides", officially starts today. The opening ceremonies take place at 12 Noon SL time at the Main Stage in SE3 Utopia (192/192/75). The theme this year is "To Boldly Go!"

Now more than ever is the time to be bringing people together, and so we are thrilled to announce that the 2020 SciFi Expo will be taking place from October 14th to October 28th, 2020. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic it is important for people to come together to share their common love of a genre that has brought so many beloved franchises which has allowed us to create and expand on them in ways that are truly unique.

This year we’ve decided to go bigger than ever before and are bringing 5 regions in the shape of a medical cross in celebration of those who are currently or have worked throughout the medical industry, and anybody who has been affected by Cancer or the COVID-19 virus. We hope that this event can help to bring people together who may have been affected and give them a place to let their imaginations roam free.

Our main theme this year is “To Boldly Go” paying tribute to the ideals that SciFi brings to us about being able to go out and explore the unknown. Our four exhibit sims have the themes of The Void, Cloud City, Manaan, and Gallifrey while our hub sim will be based on a Utopian colony world.

The SciFi Expo will be open to the public from October 14th to October 28th. The SLurl to the expo will be available on our website on opening day. We hope you will come and join us on this new adventure!

There will be plenty to do and see, with events such as DJ parties, numerous exhibits by various stores and roleplaying groups, plenty of cool stuff, to get, and more.

There was also this promotion video.

Cartoon of the Day: Sci-fi Smashup

Taken at the Fantasy Faire on Star Wars Day. Why someone would appear with both a lightsaber from Star Wars and a "redshirt" Star Trek uniform, I never heard. But the imagination does come up with reasons.

May The Fourth Be With You

May 4 has been occasionally referred to as "Star Wars Day." This is from "May the Fourth be with you" being a pun of "May the Force be with you." And in a few places, people were in full or partial Star Wars looks. At the Fantasy Faire, this guy was wielding a lightsaber. Considering his outfit looks suspiciously like a Star Trek redshirt, be better be extra careful with that thing.

I still had a set of Stormtrooper armor I picked up at Luskwood a few years ago. It was a better fit for my rabbit avatar than I was expecting. One girl had a similar idea with her Rebel uniform, and well, we ended up dancing.

May the Fourth be with you.
