It's The Great Trick or Treat Event, Bellisseria!

With Halloween, an interactive event has returned to the Linden Home areas: the Bellisseria Trick or Treat event. This is an event anyone can take part in, and any owner of a Linden Home can make it grow. Details were explained in the Linden blog and the forums

Join the Halloween fun in Bellisseria this season to collect candy and win exciting prizes! This interactive event is open to everyone, with Bellisseria Residents hosting Candy Buckets on their parcels. Don’t miss out on the spooky partygoers and creative costumes during this virtual Trick or Treat. Plus, there are prizes for all participants ...

* * *

Prepare to celebrate Halloween Belli style! Collect candy across Bellisseria this Halloween season and win prizes! This is an interactive event where residents living in Bellisseria can host Candy Buckets on their parcels and anyone (even residents not living in Bellisseria) can go all around Bellisseria Trick or Treating to collect candy.

People take take part in two ways. For both of them, head over to the Haunted Neighborhood in Millbank (217/41/23), There, near the red balloon, you'll find three boards. The first will give you a candy bucket, which is what those playing the game will need to find. The second will give you the Trick or Treat HUD for playing the game. The third will give players a prize if they've collected enough candy.

For those with Linden Homes, you can take part in the candy giving. Touch the first panel, and it will give you a orange candy bucket with a jack o' lantern smile. Just rezz it on your porch, or somewhere clearly visible that you don't mind visitors walking over to. Rezzing it inside the house is not recommended as treaters need to get close to the bucket to collect candy.

To take part in the trick or treating, clicking on the middle panel will give you the trick or treat HUD. Just add it to your avatar, and it should appear on the upper left of your screen, with some minor adjustments possibly needed. When entering a Bellisseria sim, it will tell you in local chat how many candy buckets are around.

When clicked by someone with a HUD, the candy buckets animate with a cloudy of candy going up into the air. The bucket won't work outside Bellisseria.

To get the candy faster, there's a spreadsheet with various locations you can find (here).  To get on the list, fill out this Google docs form (here).

The forum would also list some prizes, which can be gotten by clicking on the third panel. Patch Linden would list the prizes in the forums as follows:
  • 1 Candy: Custom display shelving unit for Boopies.
  • 100 Candies: Nibblehoof Boopie (decor and animesh follower), Custom display shelving unit for Boopies.
  • 250 Candies: Boopie Bones Boopie (decor, huggable, and animesh follower with random tint-changing versions), Nibblehoof Boopie (decor and animesh follower), Custom display shelving unit for Boopies.
  • 400 Candies: Snarklin Boopie (decor and animesh follower), Boopie Bones Boopie (decor, huggable, and animesh follower with random tint-changing versions), Nibblehoof Boopie (decor and animesh follower), Custom display shelving unit for Boopies.

No ending date was given, though it's safe to assume the event will end on November 1. In the meantime, have fun collecting candy, and the sights of the occasional decorated home in Bellisseria. Among the locations with candy buckets is the Newser's auxiliary office at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Wallingford (128/40/32).

EOTB: Linden Lab Shows Off Several Halloween Happenings

On the official blog yesterday, Linden Lab posted about several Halloween happenings in Second Life, "Immerse yourself in the spooky Halloween spirit within one of the most lively virtual communities in the metaverse!"

Among the goings on is the return of Bellisseria's Trick or Treat game. Get your HUD and candy bucket at Millbank (217/41/23), and go around Bellisseria looking for pumpkin-shaped candy buckets to grab treats out of, and get prizes for it.

In the forums, Patch explained that this year's event was a little different, with small changes following reading some player feedback from last year, "We’ve reduced the amount of candy required for the prizes, making it easier for everyone to win. Plus, now when you arrive in a region with the HUD attached, you’ll receive a message letting you know how many buckets you can find in that region. And to encourage more users to join the event, rezzing out a candy bucket at your home will earn you extra bonus candies."

The prizes are nightfang, twilight squeak, and cuddle claw boopies (decor, hugable, and animesh follower). Once again get the HUD and candy bucket at https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Millbank/217/41/23 .

There's also a new set of last names available for residents, Halloween themed. They are:

Claw, Fangsby, Shade, Spooktail, Growl, Bloodstone, Witch, Vile, Ebony, Phantom

As a reminder, the names are available for a limited time, presumably until just after Halloween is over, and there is a fee to change one's last name.

There's also a Halloween Swaginator hunt.

Linden Lab's Halloween Swaginator Hunt is back! Start at the spooky Millbank region, touch to receive the Halloween 2024 Swaginator HUD, right-click and add it from your inventory, and then dive into a thrilling adventure as you search for hidden treasures and exclusive Halloween-themed prizes. Explore eerie locations, solve mysterious clues, and enjoy the festive atmosphere. Don’t miss out on this exciting quest to celebrate the Halloween season!

The HUD, and first clue of the Swaginator Hunt, is also at Millbank (217/41/23) .

As for Milibank itself, it's been transformed for the season into the Haunted Neighborhood, which we've written about in the past.

Also available are Halloween Premium, and Premium Plus, gifts available at a list of locations.

It Came From Bellisseria Chat: The Scariest Trick or Treat Pumpkin

Shown in the Bellisseria community group chat. People were talking about some pumpkins in the "Trick or Treat" being a bit difficult to get to or in curious places. Traci Quandry-Marabana (Traci Quandry) would post an animation of a shark swimming around the waters one pumpkin was in, "This was the scariest."

Haunted Neighborhood and Bellisseria "Trick or Treat"

Two of the Lindens' annual Halloween goodies in Bellisseria are back. One is the Haunted Neighborhood, in the Millbank sim.

The Millbank region has undergone a spooky overhaul, with numerous Linden Homes getting a haunted horror theme. Visit the many haunted houses, and see the scary sights! Take a step inside the homes while you’re at it: there are such sights to show you!

Once again, Bellisseria's spooky neighborhood is back, with all sorts of creepy sights, and sounds. A dingy trailer park has sounds of chainsaws going and screams in the background. One houseboat is full of slime and has a spooky shrine inside, and just what is that gurgling underneath the water. One house has the sounds of kids giggling, but no sign of them other than toys and a ball that seemingly is rolling by itself. There's a creepy cemetery with a freshly dug hole that when you walk past just seems like a tempting spot to rest for those tired. And one place with a "for sale" sign will collapse in a cloud of dust and debris.

Some places have traps in them, and if you're not careful a heavy bookshelf might fall on you or a blade might shoot out at you. There is a flashlight available near the official start area, though it aids your vision just a little, and sometimes being able to see things slightly better isn't always a good thing in this place. Oh, and you can also grab the balloon for a quick tour. But is letting a haunted balloon guided by a sinister-sounding ghost steer you around a good idea?

To get to the Haunted Neighborhood, head to: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Millbank/216/40/23

Also going on is the Bellisseria "Trick or Treat" event. For the third year in a row, residents will be able to go trick or treating around the neighborhoods of the Linden Home continent.

Creep or crawl over to Bellisseria this Halloween season to snag some candy and win prizes! This is an interactive event open to *everyone* where Residents living in Bellisseria can host Candy Buckets on their parcels. You don’t want to miss the paranormal partygoers and creative costumes throughout Bellisseria during this virtual Trick-or-Treat.

To play the game head over to the Haunted Neighborhood at Milibank (216.40.23) and head to the place with the three signs near the flashlight and balloon. The one on the left will get you the HUD for the game (image left) and will be all you need to get if you just want to play. For those wanting to take part, grab the pumpkin from the sign on the right. You'll need to be the owner of a Linden Home to take part. And it's not recommended you have a teleporter to a private skybox near where you set the pumpkin.

The game takes place only on the continent of Bellisseria, and all pumpkins can only have a piece taken from them only once. There are prizes for getting lots of candy, especially for those to take 200 or more.

There was a video about the Trick or Treat event by Linden Lab, featuring Magellan Linden and Punky dressing up as each other, or in Magellan's case trying to.

For more information, check out this forum post by Patch Linden. There's also a list of homes available to help trick or treaters search for candy. The one at Clean Getaway also has a huge cutout of Patch Linden where one can grab a messful of SL candies, "There are 100+ candies and other gifts inside Patch now. Touch him to get them Clean Getaway (92,158,32) The haunted house also gives candy, and there's punch, too."

Trick or treat.

Various Halloween Places

Halloween is fast approaching. And while people have been getting into the spirit of the season for a few weeks, things are getting truly spooky now. Some are wearing scary and spooky avatars. Some are going to Halloween-themed events. And then there are the Halloween places. By all means there's too many to list all of them. But we can mention a few. Here, Bixyl Shuftan takes a look at several across Second Life, some of which offer activities.

EOTB: Trick or Treat At Bellisseria Starts Again October 18

Yesterday in the Linden blog, the Lab announced that the "Great Trick or Treat Event" in Bellisseria, introduced last year, will be back.

Creep or crawl over to Bellisseria this Halloween season to snag some candy and win prizes! This is an interactive event open to *everyone* where Residents living in Bellisseria can host Candy Buckets on their parcels. Halloween in Bellisseria

Many Second Life locations are offering some Halloween fun. One well-known area, Bellisseria, has a few spook-tacular things going on as well. Weekend in Brief

Quite a bit happened this past weekend. Among the events was the conclusion of the Burn2 festival, which culminated with the Burning of The Man (above) and the Temple Burn. It was also the conclusion of the Sci-Fi Expo, which raised money for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Sadly there was a sad event, the announcement that the Survivors of Suicide depression support group was closing. And while on a Monday and not the weekend, the "Trick or Treat" game on Bellissaria started.

Bellisseria's "Great Trick or Treat Event"

Earlier this week, Patch Linden announced, on a thread in the Linden blog, a Halloween event on the Linden Home continent of Bellisseria, "The Great Trick or Treat Event."

Prepare to celebrate Halloween Belli style! Collect candy across Bellisseria this Halloween season with a chance to win prizes! This is an interactive event where residents living in Bellisseria can host Candy Buckets on their parcels and anyone (even residents not living in Bellisseira) can go all around Bellisseria Trick or Treating to collect candy.

As the event takes place on Bellisseria, only residents who own land there can place a candy bucket. But anyone can get a HUD and collect candy. There's also prizes available in the form of bears. Those whom collect at least one piece of candy get a Skelly Bear (skeleton).

Only residents who own parcels in Bellisseria can host a candy bucket, but all residents can get a game HUD and go Trick or Treating.

Everyone who participates in Trick or Treating and collects at least one candy will receive a Halloween Skelly Bear (skeleton bear is decor only). The top 100 trick or treaters get the Evil Bear (devil) as well. The top 35 players get those two plus the Magic Bear (magcian), which is wearable animesh and "waves a wand with particle effects, sounds." And finally the top ten also get the top prize, the Deady Bear (zombie), an "Animesh Pet/Follower with custom animations, sounds and effects."

To help explain the event, this video of Magellan Linden and Punkey was shown with Magellan going around still incognito.

The event doesn't start until Monday October 18. But residents of Bellisseria can go ahead and get a candy giver and place it on their land. It and the HUD can be found at the following locations.

At the Spooktakulum Event, gacha lovers can get some thrills and chills while satisfying their shopping fix. At the Trick or Treat Lane, you can do more shopping while enjoying spooky sights while searching for occasional freebies. At "Scare Me Silly," you can do still more Halloween shopping for a good cause. And for those whom spooky isn't enough but want a blood n' guts Halloween, there's the Linden Halloween area.

Linden Lab Giving Out Halloween Gifts, Haunted Halloween Tour Returns

Linden Lab no doubt has been blamed, rightly or wrongly, for a number of tricks on the residents. This Halloween, they have a few (almost) harmless tricks, as well as some treats. They announced details on their blog last week.

Halloween isn’t just about dressing up and reveling in the spirit of all things spooky - there’s also that whole bag full of delicious treats your gather - so here are some stops you’re going to want to make to get your goodies. Exclusively for Premium members - we have Mary O’net - a special edition, wearable Glytch avatar. Mary is the perfect combination of elegant and creepy - a delight to don and dance away in haunted halls and stages all across the Grid!   ... There’s also a bag bursting full of free treats for everyone! Just drop by Portal Park and see what’s in store for you inside the gift bag! There’s something for everyone inside - so be sure to drop by!

I headed to Portal Park (incognito), and in front of the portal to the Haunted Halloween Tour ride (more on that later), I saw a couple of gift boxes. I got them, took them to a sandbox, and in one found a few goodies, including a skeleton avatar and a "Flying Eggling" vehicle that goes about by way of a rocket. In the other was a "trick or treat" bag, one that really does give out tricks or treats.

Are you ready for Halloween? Because we want to be sure, we have prepared a special Trick or Treat bag for you!  It's loaded with everything you'll need to enjoy the holiday with friends. (Well, mostly tricks, but you can find plenty of treats in Second Life.) Tyrah and Punkee designed this bag to build on the new inworld game, "Tyrah and the Curse of the Magical Glytches."  You can set it on your doorstep as a surprise for curious visitors or you and your friends can dream up ways to use it for party games. Each time someone clicks on the bag, it chooses a random result.  Usually it's a trick -- try it and see! -- but every once in a while it offers a treat for the person who clicked it.  So ..... First person to get the treat wins?  Or maybe you have to give everyone else a treat if the bag plays a particular trick on you?  You make up the rules.   Or just have fun.

Rezzing the bag on the ground, I clicked it a few times. Occasionally it would give me the "treat," a 2 Euro coin. Usually there was some other result. Most commonly, the bag would catch on fire, or bats would fly around. Other results included apples flying out of the bag, the bag turning into a jack o' lantern, the bag flying off, or the bag ending up on your head. Ha ha!

To get these Halloween gifts, head over to Portal Park 1 (175/118/52)

For Premium Residents, there's a Glytch avatar, "Mary O'net." The areas to pick it up it, such as Unttan (130/128/81), are accessible only to Premium Residents. To help encourage residents to upgrade their accounts, Linden Lab is offering 50% off their first quarterly payment if they sign up for Premium, until November 2.

Also, Linden Lab announced the return of the Haunted Halloween Tour

Who says sequels never live up to the originals? The spine-chilling Haunted Tour is back again - and this third installment is scarier than ever! Some new additions to this house of horrors have been crafted for your enjoyment. Hop in a coffin and enjoy the wild wide through. By the way - if you have a fear of clowns, you may want to make sure you bring a friend!

Stepping through, I saw an old abandoned manor up a hill ahead. A coffin-like car rezzed. Once in the ride took control of my view, so there was no panning around. The scenery was unnerving, and those with a problem with blood and gore might not want to get on, but I didn't see anything that was likely to cause heart trouble.

To go on the Halloween Haunted Tour, like the gifts head over to Portal Park 1 (175/118/52

Havenhollow III

BloodyKitty's travels in search of a Halloween-themed place took her to the LEA22 sim, of which their current exhibit is "HavenHollow III," by the Holiday Appreciation Association. The exhibit is a little different as it's not meant for screams and big frights, but trick or treating fun in a small town at night that's just spooky enough for a feeling that there might be something lurking in the shadows.

The Furry Fashion Halloween Hunt

It's October, and that means for the Furry Fashion store, it's time for their Halloween Hunt. Running from October 1st last week until Halloween night, the event promises a new place to explore, freebies to pick up, and spooky Halloween-ish fun.

"We've been working on this all summer," Amethyst Crystal (Amethysia) told me about the event, "Basically theres a hunt in a special Halloween area, you get a hud as you go in and put it on and look for bats. the bats give out prizes as you find them and if you find them all you get a bonus gift box. there's also 'trick or treat' bats which will trick you but also give the chance to give a exclusive limited edition item too. There's also special halloween shops set up by various merchants."

Amethyst and her friend Fortunas Sands gave me an early peek at the Halloween area. "Theres a maze and graveyard, witch's house and petshop, along with a surprise or two," Amethyst told me, "And there's plenty of seats around the area for good pictures, including a deadman's hanging tree. ... This is all going on along side the Quest Fur Cover grid wide hunt Furry Fashion organizes .... So a very busy month especially since we're in the Twisted Hunt too."

"Ae plan to have security working shifts here in costume for the first few days," Amethyst explained, then mentioned there would soon be special costumes for the staff. Showing me hers, it certainly left a lot around her mid-section exposed. When we got to a certain hall area, Fortunas would show me his ghost T-Res avatar, then a "Clownasuarus Rez" look, a T-Rex dressed up in clown make-up.

Of the graveyard area, "we even have staff graves," Amethyst told me. They plan to have their big Halloween party there as well.

As for the Halloween hunt, after picking up a special HUD for the event, one searches for the small bats scattered across the Halloween areas. Clicking on them, there is a chance the player may end up "tricked" and transformed, "Patrons get to become part of the horror show. ... They're trick or treat bats for a reason. But there is a chance of getting a exclusive gift off them too, a limited ed that won't be sold or given away any other time. And if you do get 'tricked' by a trick or treat bat there is a un-deformer door in the main  vendor area."

Once again, the event runs the whole month to Halloween night. So come on over to Furry Fashion sim for some spook-tacular Halloween fun.

Tales From Podex: Trick or Treat

It was Halloween day at the Podex Exchange. October had been a rather active month, with events such as the Burn2 festival taking place, in addition to many Halloween parties and haunted houses. Longtime residents came to get Lindens to buy costumes, and the events attracted some newcomers to the Grid, and needing cash they would come here for reasons related to this months events, and others. And of course between customers coming in, the tellers would talk about their own trips to these places. One had also gone to Luskwood's birthday celebrations. He'd thought he'd stand out like a sore thumb, but as it turned out he was welcomed.

During a break in their talking, their attention was drawn to the door. They saw not one visitor, but two. One was noticeably much smaller than the other. He was wearing a small white sheet over his head, and had a bag in his hand.

"Trick or treat!" the smaller visitor greeted the tellers.

The tellers saw this and chuckled, "Happy Halloween," they greeted back.

"Hyuk. Y'all 'll hafta pardun mah nephew," the taller visitor told the tellers, "He insistud thar'd be treats heah, not jest th' houses 'round heah."

"Booooooo!" the younger visitor went, "I'm a ghost."

"Not a problem Sir," one teller told him, "we're prepared for any eventuality," and he held out some lollipops.

"Weeee!" The youth went over to collect his prize.

The older visitor looked around, "Mebe as long as ahum heah, I should git me some more'o them thar Lindens."

"Certainly Sir," the teller told him, "We sell Linden dollars for a variety of international currencies."

"How 'bout jess good 'ol Uh-mericn' dollars?"

Certainly Sir, just sign these forms and you'll be all set."

It didn't take long for the paperwork to be long, and the cash was exchanged.

"Thanks fellers," the customer told them, "Ah guess we'll be on our way, hyuk."

"Certainly Sir, hope you both have a Happy Halloween."

"We will!" the younger visitor told them, "My neighbor's told me this place had a lot of 'spirit,' so I came trick or treating as a ghost."

They all had a good chuckle, and the visitors went on their way.

The Podex Exchange is located at the Code sim at (45, 218, 61), with a website at http://www.podex.info/. Jacek Shuftan is the CEO.
